Mixter Casual Streams!
Hey yâall! Since itâs the first Wednesday of the month, at 8 PM ET (in about 4 hours), Mixter Casual is gonna stream! Whatâs she streaming?
Kingdom Hearts 2, of course! So check that out on her Twitch channel:Â https://www.twitch.tv/mixtercasual! It should be dumb and fun and weird as hell, probably!
truly ahead of their time
since the 2010s are gonna be over in 5 months I think itâs only fair to say that one direction and their fandom have been the most iconic part of the 2010s you CAN NOT change my mind.
We leaked albums, hacked airport security, ended bands careers, started drama wars, tried to BUY THE BAND, broke world records and theyâre still getting nominated for awards even after theyâve all gone solo.
yâall could never.

Mom declares her daughter is done with homework in viral email.
Blogger Bunmi Laditan sent her 10-year-oldâs school a clear message.
âHello Mayaâs teachers,
Maya will be drastically reducing the amount of homework she does this year. Sheâs been very stressed and is starting to have physical symptoms such as chest pain and waking up at 4 a.m. worrying about her school workload.
Sheâs not behind academically and very much enjoys school. We consulted with a tutor and a therapist suggested we lighten her workload. Doing 2-3 hours of homework after getting home at 4:30 is leaving little time for her to just be a child and enjoy family time and weâd like to avoid her sinking into a depression over this.â
A++++ parenting đ
Iâve talked with a whole cadre of child therapists and psychiatrists about this very issue. There is little conclusive evidence that homework significantly improves elementary school childrenâs grades, understanding of subjects, or facility with various operations, processes, etc. However, plenty of evidence suggests that ever-increasing amounts of homework for young children lead to stress, anxiety, emotional fatigue, resistance toward academics in general, lack of leisure time to build social/interpersonal skills, and poorer family relations.  (My kids were doing about 3 hours a week IN KINDERGARTEN, at age 5 â so thatâs ½ hour every night, after a 6.5 hour school day, or else saving it up for long slogs over the weekend, even more disruptive. And that wasnât including reading practice!)
We have stopped doing homework altogether with my 7 year old as a result of severe anxiety/depression and a learning disability. She had gotten to a place where she had so little self confidence and truly believed that she was stupid and worthless, not just because of homework of course â but every time we tried to sit down to do homework with her, itâd end in tears with her really vehemently berating herself, and no amount of encouragement could ameliorate the damage done. Now, granted, sheâs got other things going on besides just an overload of school work. But in NO WAY did the homework help her, either academically or emotionally.Â
No little kid should have to spend an hour or more each night getting through homework. Now, my deal with Siena is that if she wants to give her homework a shot, I will absolutely help her if she wishes for help, but I no longer force her to complete all of it or to work on it for some set length of time before finally throwing in the towel.Â
Guess what? With the pressure taken off, sheâs actually doing MORE independent work now, purely out of the desire to learn and practice, than she ever was before weâd decided with her therapy team and school that homework was just not a thing this kid could handle.
Luckily for my older daughter my schoolâs 3rd-grade team decided to hand out homework only 3x/week, and the sheets take no more than 15-20 minutes to complete. That is totally reasonable for 8-9 year olds!Â
Anyway tl;dr just because the school system may require it sure as shit doesnât mean parents canât, or shouldnât, fight it. Do whatâs right for your kid, and above all, let them be kids.Â
I eventually stopped doing homework because I was overwhelmed by it.
There was an article just the other day in the local paper about a primary school thatâs abolishing homework! You can read it here (autoplay video, gives you a few seconds to stop it).
God I wish this had been an option before we had to give up public school for me, Iâd spend literally all my time at home doing school work, it was horrid.
If it wasnât for homework, I wouldâve actually been a good student. But homework drastically ruined my GPA and my inability to find it realistically important or a source of anything but anxiety almost held me back a year in high school.
In 6th grade (when I was like, 12 years old) every day I had so much homework. In every class, each requiring me to lug my textbooks back and forth every day. I weighed my backpack and it was around 20-30 pounds. I was 12, and every day I had to lug around about Âź of my body weight. This was not good for me. What also wasnât good for me was the fact that every day, itâd take me most, if not all of my afternoon to do my homework, which mostly amounted to busy work. I never learned anything. No lessons were reinforced. It was just a waste of time. I also had homework on weekends.
And every time anyone complained about the amount of homework, our teachers would reply âIf you think this is bad, just wait until you get into Middle School and High School!â Because of this, I was closer to committing suicide in 6th grade than at any other point before or since (which is saying a lot). Because I wasnât allowed to actually have any free time to enjoy life, it was all just school and miserable busy work, I almost killed myself. Thankfully, I managed to stick it out and once I got into 7th grade, the amount of homework I had declined greatly. Even in college I never had as much homework as I did in 6th grade. Homework can have a purpose, and it can help, but man, Iâve literally never seen it done in a way that does
