oh man. okay so basically about a year and a half ago i went on this psycho rant on my private twitter account because i was incredibly mentally ill and i ended up in the psych ward for a little bit later on in the year. i quote retweeted a few different people and said some bitchy things bc i was on my private and under the impression that everyone who had access to that account could be trusted. then like five months after that, someone leaked a bunch of screenshots of those tweets in an attempt to call me out over disagreeing with someone over a headcanon about emotional incest that i still to this day don’t agree with. i literally had the person i disagreed with blocked and had been actively avoiding interacting with any of their tweets for months bc i knew their takes pissed me off and i try not to share spaces with people who i know make me angry, but they sent a bunch of their friends to harass me and one of them even made a burner account to keep arguing me after we blocked each other. it was insane and it happened literally a month after i got out of the hospital for a suicide attempt which i’m pretty sure was intentional timing on the other person’s part. anyway. not my proudest moment, but it taught me to be a lot more selective with who i let read my innermost mentally deranged thoughts. learning experience
A suppressive legal battle turned the moving Sundance documentary Leaving Neverland into a ghost haunting the Michael Jackson biopic.
Really interesting read here and I think nothing exemplifies the toxicity of stan culture than Michael Jackson's millions upon millions of defenders to this day. I had no idea Leaving Neverland had been scrubbed from the world, because I watched it once when it first came out and it was just so nakedly upsetting I never wanted to revisit. You don't need to watch it more than once for any reason, but it also felt important to watch. It was bearing witness.
Most documentaries dress up their story with narrative beats and production that makes it feel like an intriguing story you want to know more about, even if the material is extremely serious.
Leaving Neverland makes no such attempts. It is instead a harrowing watch of two very damaged people speaking about surviving said damage in childhood. It's victims staring you in the eyes and making you face the monstrosity of people who prey on children.
In hindsight, MJ's continued stans (some of whom will no doubt, fruitlessly, try to hurl back some propaganda at me to justify their love for a child rapist, you can keep it. I will not convince you and you will not convince me.) should have been a canary in a cold mine for Trump and the Epstein Class. If people were willing to look past child rape because someone made great songs and could dance incredibly, a Black man, of course they will look past their white male political cult leaders doing the same thing.
It's upsetting that the biopic is coming out but Leaving Neverland is impossible to obtain. It's upsetting that people keep consuming these musician biopics that completely whitewash the misdeeed of these people in order to get the estate to grant them the rights to the music. A hot soundtrack is more important than telling a truthful story. We don't need any more of these biopics, y'all, we're good. It was bad with Elvis, and this is bad too
If you watched Leaving Neverland and walked away still believing in your fave pop star.... Just block me, I don't want to know you.
People in this world talk a big game about protecting children and sure do spend a lot of time hurting children.
