so, about Tristan...
well first off, this creation is fucking adorable-
but, I’m kinda disappointed with their character design. (referring to them as “they/them” since I have no idea if Tristan’s a woman or a dude, and I’ll get to that).
The Seven Deadly Sins, at least for me, has always had amazing character designs. A huge thing in Anime is having the “same face syndrome” where their faces look the same, which is actually what makes hairstyles so prominent and bizarre. Look at Fairy Tail, for example. Erza, Lucy, Levi, etc, they all have extremely similar faces.
However, in NNT they all have pretty distinct features. Diane’s face looks completely different from Elizabeth’s. Merlin looks completely different from Veronica. Mainly because of the eyes and hair, also the placement of said features.
But, Tristan just looks like a literal mesh of both characters. They have the same hairstyles as Meliodas and Elizabeth, the same eyes and color, and resembles Meliodas a lot more.
I know it’s really popular in shounen to have the kid look astonishingly similar to their parents, but this is some cookie cutter bullshit if I’ve seen it, Nakaba!!
With such unique character designs for a wide cast, it’s disappointing.
And I know we probably won’t ever see this midget again, but I wish there was some more thought put into it beforehand.
----
On the ooooother hand, they seem to have a pretty distinct personality!!
I don’t know a word of Korean or how to read it, but just from Tristan’s expressions and interactions, it looks like they’re bubbly, enthusiastic, innocent, and loving. They clearly love both Meliodas and Elizabeth.
----
Ok, now this is more of a preference than anything.
I love the fact that Tristan actually knows what Meliodas & Elizabeth have gone through together. I don’t think it’s necessary to the plot, but it definitely helps with any future conflicts.
What I mean by that is, well, for example, sigh, Boruto.
A lot of Naruto fans aren’t happy with Boruto, for more reasons than the plot and horrible filler, mainly being the original cast. Naruto and the gang were outshined by this new generation that we were being forced to watch with no acknowledgment to the previous generations efforts, just a clean slate.
It felt a disservice to the original audience who was now watching the sequel.
Boruto paid no attention to what Naruto was trying to accomplish and all the work and effort Naruto did to become Hokage, and basically said “fUcK yOu dAd, pAy AtTenTION to mE aNd nOT thE eNTiRe viLLaGe yOu’rE reSponSibLE fOr”
Here, though, it seems Tristan respects their parents even more, and feels for them, because they know about their struggles. It gives the opportunity to build a stronger bond to the child n parents.
I really am looking too deep into things, and I have no idea if this is the final chapter or not, but overall, I’m quite happy with where our characters are at right now.
The recent DK and Mael arc may not of been too hot, but I’m still prepared to give NNT the send-off I’ve been waiting for.
Got a feeling it’s time for a new generation and, well, it’s sad to see the sins go, but I’m ready for the sequel.
