I love the fics about the Centaurs WAGs being supportive of Shane and Ilya. And for the record, I assume they would be. Canadians aren't stereotypically homophobic and they are probably Shane Hollander fans.
But I imagine at least one of the WAGs fangirling too hard and tryna get Shane to introduce her to Rose Landry.
This is annoying for Shane and of course annoying for Ilya.

The worst thing about Shane and Ilya being long distance during their hook up era is that Shane didn't see Ilya's stunning airport look and Ilya didn't see Shane's stunning aquarium look with a baby as an accessory.
I hate that for them. Life is cruel.
Actually, I firmly believe there are pics floating around early Twitter about Shane and Hayden (by default, it is technically his baby) shot pap style of Shane carrying the littlest Pike around and getting better at it over the time there
And every single one of those pics ends up in Ilya's phone cropping out Hayden and the other kids. So he can stare at Shane handling a baby and try not to Get Weird About It

Ilya would subtly ask Shane about the Swedish princess and Shane would say "Yeah, but she doesn't watch hockey." Then that would settle that.
Rose Landry is a Michigan girl that likes hockey. So objectively speaking, Ilya is jealous of her. But the Swedish Princess no longer poses a threat and Ilya never brings it up again.
after the first “i love you” at the cottage, ilya starts say it randomly from time to time and shane always says back without hesitation “i love you too” and after about a week like this ilya asks shane “do i bother you saying i love you so much?” and shane holds ilya’s face in his hands and says “why would i be bothered with something that been my dream for so long?” and ilya goes almost whispering “oh shane, i love you so much” and shane smiles wide, crow’s feet showing around his eyes and says back “i love you too”

I have a conversation that I'd like to open.
I'm not a Hayden fan, but mostly because I find him to just be a plot device.
When Hayden's Fanmail video leaks (mind you, I don't hold this against Hayden. This was just a lazy plot device that I can't dwell on for too long or my eyes hurt from rolling too hard), why weren't the Voyageurs mad at Hayden?
The team and coach were all upset with Shane for 'sleeping with the enemy' or whatever and homophobic in general that their captain is gay and now the whole 'world' knows.
But why weren't they upset with Hayden? Ilya and Shane were comfortable kissing at Hayden's house so obviously Hayden was aware of the relationship. So isn't Hayden guilty by association? Wouldn't the team be upset that Hayden condoned Shane and Ilya's relationship? Also Hayden kept it secret from everyone else, thus showing a loyalty to Shane.
If the Voyageurs are mad at Shane, shouldn't they at least be a little mad at Hayden?
Sorry I'm just in a TLG critical mood. And it's based on finding so many injustices towards Shane.

ok so i have bad news
It's been 0 days since the last incident of me not being normal about Shane Hollander
also. i find it odd that reid spends so much time in the long game refuting shane’s perspective. shane ‘doesn’t know the dark side of hockey.’ shane is ignorant to the problems of others. shane is too obsessed with hockey. shane’s anxieties are insipid and selfish when compared to ilya’s righteous trauma. shane’s definitely not an eating disorder is a topic of ridicule. shane is sulking after being outed again instead of helping with dinner. everyone — ilya, his parents, rose, hayden — tell shane that he’s being ridiculous and small minded, that he isn’t considering others feelings, that he doesn’t appreciate what he has.
but then everyone else is wrong and shane is right. everything he predicted comes to pass. he is outed by his best friend. he is hatecrimed and ostracised by his championship team. his fiance fails to defend his integrity to the press. he goes to another team for less money and is stripped of a letter. like. it’s just so unbelievably bizarre. i understand that reid wrote this as the ‘comeuppance’ and punishment for shane quote unquote ignoring all of ilya’s more important problems, but then why prove him right? why not make him so passively ignorant that the ensuing horror is a total surprise?
reid has spoken about getting upset when people dislike ilya and his actions, so then why write an entire book where the explicit conclusion is that ilya was wrong, and then try to frame it as shane’s fears — while ultimately correct — simply weren’t worth the hassle? and why, at the end of that, is shane still the only one to apologise?
the only explanation here is that rachel reid has unintentionally reinvented cassandra of troy from her own beautiful mind

The way Shane is written in TLG is frankly irresponsible and despicable. I get that it's heavier in Ilya's POV and that's fine. I also get that Ilya has depression and that colors some of his perspective. That aside, there's still too many instances where Shane is discarded for me to stay silent.
If Shane was truly ignorant to the dark side of hockey, then wouldn't he have just publicly come out from the very beginning? If Shane was truly ignorant, wouldn't he have just gone to Bood's party on Boxing Day? If Shane was truly just relaxed and happy keeping Ilya in the closet, wouldn't he...be relaxed and happy? His relationship with food is...not relaxed nor happy? His relationship with his team is...spoiler alert, not relaxed nor happy.
Also! Before I forget. Let's look at the facts. Ilya wanted to become a Canadian citizen. Shane suggests Ottawa. Ilya agrees AND says I love you for the first time. So it sure seems like the plan is approved and important to both Shane and Ilya. So when Ilya wants to change the plan or anything cracks the plan (Ryan catching them or Crowell pressuring them or Montreal ostracizing him) then of course Shane is going to react in a way that protects Ilya and their relationship and the goddamn plan
But I forgot. Rachel loves Ilya and he can do no wrong so any friction in TLG needs to be Shane's fault 🙄
