Here is one Website that I used more to see the main video on their page. The video shows anti-rape underwear. As cool as this was, it made me upset that rape has gotten so bad that this needed to be created
I couldn’t find the actual episode of date line, but this was a close version of what it was about. When I watch it, it gave more stories and details of how schools have handled rapes on their campus. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/10382613/ns/dateline_nbc/t/rape-campus/
Reflection
Before attending college, I knew I would not attend any university on the 94 list that are under investigation. I would not support a college who would hide rape records and not even punish the male who did it. I also knew I would not attend a private university, not because it is cheaper, but because they feel as if they have more authority to hide record, since they do not need to report to the government. They are not being founded by the government, which is why it has been easier for them to cover up rape records.
Now after doing the research, I have become even more shocked of how universities have handled rapes among their campus. I did not feel as passionate about this topic until my research. Although my project has come to an end, I still will continue to fight this movement and get awareness out there. These are true stories that happen to women, and it’s a damn shame that universities do not see its importance. Yet, they sure don’t mind taking the victim’s money after they hid rape records.
Universities put guys who rape a girl on a pedestal. Assuring them that nothing will happen, and people will not find out. They continue to go to school, live their life. While the victim’s life has been ruined by a horn dog. The fact that this happens in place we live is still shocking to me. The movement is here. We need to see the reality be hide it.
Solutions
What should be done to end university cover up rape records
1. Awareness- Awareness is the most important, Once we start speaking out of how universities handle rape, the government can start to investigate the school. This will also give the victim more trust in their school to speak out. It will gain confidences. It will also prevent students who look into a school that does this from coming and supporting it. By having awareness, organization, funding, ect. can form from it. Just like how a picture become virl, this movement can too!
2. Report any kind of activity! If you see something, say something! This could be something you see around the campus, or even if a friend speaks to you about this matter. In the long run, it will benefit them. They will get help. And never tell them it is their fault. Don’t blame the women
3. Knowledge- Know about the problem that happens. Learn more about the universities and cases they have tried to cover up. Also before applying to school, research as much about the crime you can. It is better to know before you reach the campus.
Summary
From my research I have realized that the problem of universities covering up rape records, is NOT well known to most people. Those who do acknowledge it, call the people who care “feminist antagonizers”. some even said that they are degrading intelligence by with this movement. From some of the readings I did, few said that this would never happened if we didn’t live in a world where society believes that we live in a culture that hates women and boys are raised to see women as anything less than humans.
When I first started this research, I did not think people would be against reveling rape records. I assume every student wanted to know the truth about their school. As well as, wanting the right thing as to something so horrific such as rape. I remember when I started to look at colleges, I wanted to know crimes that occur there and to be aware of the environment I was in. I thought that others too would think this way. To be interested in knowing the college they supported. This would be the college they attend everyday, so I assumed they would care too.Although there has been a crack in the case and some universities are being investigated, the problem of knowing why the end to covering up rape records is important is still unknown.
When one university “handles” a rape record it becomes a virus and than other universities begin to hide the truth of what happened. We can not let this thinking happen. Women who are victims of rape should not have to worry about speaking up because she’ll worry no one will protect her. A safe place such as school, should not protect a person who did wrong just so they can gain more students. Some places who do not even admitted many students, University of Chicago, are also known to hide rapes. This is all to keep a reputation. Yet, awareness of the problem is not discussed.

Not Just a Rape Culture: The University’s Rape System
This website has been the most helpful. It made me think differently of my project. One important thing that got to me was that it had stated that by arguing about the rape culture in the university system, will not protect women. Action needs to be taken. It also states how we have to understand the system in order to fight back and make a change. Most of the time we want change to happen quick and think that by arguing it will come. But actually studying the university is the best fighting method. Also, it states that we need to identity what the rape system is. Most of this was done by using UVA as an example.
Because I found this to be the most useful, I agreed with mostly everything. What I didn’t agree with is the way protesting should go about. To me, getting awareness to the problem is how you can fight back. By other knowing the problem they too can join in to get a change to happen. I do not feel that you have to study a university to know if they did wrong. If at any time they have covered up evidence that rape happened on their campus, there is no excuse- it is wrong! I would question how understanding the campus can help fight back? and why would that be a key factor?
everyday example
The people this impacts everyday are the women that do not get their justice. Let alone have to deal with everyday that they have been raped. When someone gets raped, their world changes. They view everyone and everything different. Some even blame them self for letting it happen. In many cases, classmates will get upset that a women spoke up about being raped and “ruined someones life”. But the truth is, a life has already been ruined, the person who got raped. Now they have to live everyday with the image of being raped. And knowing that others too will get raped because their university does nothing to stand up for them.
After watching a case on 20/20, I saw how some girls have transferred to a different school, dropped out, and even killed them self because other people will blame them what has happened to the guy that raped them. This not only put the victim in fear, but other women- knowing if they get raped they can not do anything about it because people will shame them and universities will not take action.
intersectional issue
Although this blog may seem targeted to women, it is not! The issue is much larger than getting justice for the women that ere poorly treated by someone they know, faculties, classmate, ect. The issue is that these Universities are setting an example to everyone that rape is okay and a person will not be punished for it! Since campuses hide the records of if ever happen, men will begin to think that it is easy to take advantage of women and feel they will be protected by the university. In many case, women feel ashamed for something that was out of their control. People will blame the women for what had occurred This is why they do not speak up!
The reading that relates most to this would be Merlan’s writing. They connect because although the truck driving business knew that harassment happened to women in training, they did nothing or very little to prevent this from happening. Some even hid the fact that it happened so women would still want to work their. This is the exact same thing that universities are doing to recruit students.

scholarly article
This Article is written by Think process who is funded by the Center of American Progress Action Fund. This article is a more detail reading of the universities that are getting investigated by the department of education and the date the investigation started. Within the article it shows protests done by students who are against hiding records of rape occurring. It gives statements of students that have attended universities that have done this. As well as lawsuits that have been filed towards colleges.
I agree that the people should know of the colleges that have been under investigation. Students pay a lot of money to attend their college and the least they can do is inform the students of what happens among the campus. I am not as shocked that well known universities are on the list because since they have a well known name they want to keep it positive. But, at the end of the day, rape is a serious crime that happens to women. A university should not hide the fact that it does happen.
What i wonder is since most of these campuses are private, what is their consequence since they are not funded by the government? Should their be more laws input so that incidences like this doesn’t happen often?
Web Source
In the online article, the truth about rape cultures on campus is exposed. It is written by someone who has experienced her college search and came across this problem. It gives statics about rape that happens on a Campus, and the different methods of how it is handle. In some case, Universities ignore the problem, state that the problem was caused by the women, or even cover up records, so that the university does not get a bad reputation. This source targets more high school students who are choosing colleges to attend. Yet, because it targets high school student, it brings out the reality of the rape culture at universities. By using stats and example of school, it promotes awareness within the youth and the consideration of crimes on a campus. Through out the who article, it is perusing students to take a closer look at the campus they choose. She states at the end that if this problem is strong to someone, they would not attain a school that does not address, or cover up the fact that rape happens on their campus.
I agree that students heading off the college should be aware of what their school tries to cover up. I for one will boycott ANY college that will hide records of rapes that take place of their campus. As well as not punish the man who did it. When I read this the questions that come across would be how the department of education has not been involve yet, and/or do they agree with what the university does by holding records?
Quick facts
About 20% to 25% of women are estimated to be a victim of rape while in their college career.
Among college women, 9 in 10 victims of rape and sexual assault knew their offender.
less than 40% of rapes on campus are reported.
nearly 20% of freshmen will be a victim of rape, while on campus.
List of Schools
institutional examples.
The bottom picture is a student from Depaul. This student was a victim of rape that happened at the campus. She was the one of few girls who spoke up and tried to get help. Instead of Depaul reacting to the rape, they shamed her and got rid of any records that involve the rape every happening. They did not punish the guy who raped her. To protect she carried around her mattress to try and spread the awareness of the problem. The picture and issue went viral. This was how I learned from it.
UIC is a school that is not on a list for investigation. They had a terrible incident happened on their campus. After the movie fifty shades of Gray hit theaters, a student decided to reenact a scene from the film, with out consent of his girlfriend. But instead of the university trying ti hide what happened, they punished the man and even documented this report. From being a student on campus, I have experienced that UIC shares every crime that happens on and near campus.
Two colleges, same city, yet they react so different when rape happens on campus. Reputation means a lot to both campus, but some of them do not want to be known for covering up rape. Depaul was one of the many universities that choose to react this way.
Introduction
I am doing this blog on a focus on rape culture involving college campuses. This issue has become very popular because lately it has been discovered that universities (mainly private ones) have covered up records that any sexual assault has happened among their campus. It is already difficult for a women to come out and state she has been rape and when she finally does most of the time she gets shamed for it. In some cases the girl drops out or transfer, while the university allows for this to happened. By doing this research I hope to reach out to some and get awareness of this happening.
