Mal is not my favorite by any means, but it’s laughable how people try and say that the Darkling is better. He isn’t. Y’all only like him because he’s played by Ben Barnes

I love villains. I love the brutal, dirty, morally corrupt characters. I always have. Being played by Ben is a plus.

However, recognizing that many of the fans probably fell in love with Kirigan from the show, therefore did not know he was the bbeg. The charisma, the chemistry from season one is simply... chefs kiss. BUT. Malina is the healthier relationship by far, yet I still rewatch season one, and reread the book scenes over and over in my head.

I LOVED the Darkling, and perhaps, despite knowing better, a part of me wants a redemption arc.

When they open up people's profiles in Starfleet it always has a little picture of them but what I would like if it's always taken like your drivers license photo right after you graduated the academy. You have 1 shot to get a decent photo because there's 412 people in line and changing it is a bureaucratic nightmare.

It drives me wild that Riker is a total fuck magnet but he’s the most respectful and generous lover ever.

Like in an era like the 90’s where being a ladies man was all about being disrespectful towards women, Riker was all about pleasure, good times an fun playful casual sex.

His long term romantic interest Troi was fully encouraged and supported by him to go out and meet lovers and have casual sex. In the one episode where a machismo asshole tried to possess Dianna, Riker was full like: “lmao if Troi falls in love with you that’d make me the happiest man in the world to know that she is happy. I don’t own her.”

He’s legit that cool wingman at the club who goes out with his gal pals and high fives them when they score a hottie on the dance floor.

Oh and you know that man goes down on women like it’s his last meal.

Frakes described Riker as a “trysexual” as in he’d try anything once. And I love that for him.

We need more men like Riker who are comfortable in their masculinity and don’t pursue women, instead being open to new experiences and putting their partners pleasure first. He’s like the best heterosexual ‘ladies man’ character ever.
