Fellow ranger from Unova here, curious if you're dealing with the same kind of calls out in Paldea as us right now. With tourism season in full swing, we've been getting a lot of calls from tourists who tried to get selfies with wild pokemon species they don't have back home. Like, intentionally going off trails to approaching wild pokemon, some of which have very young offspring, and trying to get selfies. As expected, many chases and some injuries have occurred, though thankfully no fatalities.
Don't get me wrong, I love my job deeply, and I'd rather they call us than try to handle the situation themselves. I guess a part of me just needs to know it's not just us in Unova dealing with this. Hope you're tourist season is less eventful than ours has been.
i think this is a problem rangers in every region face. here in paldea, we get an influx to our beaches (especially around porto marinada and levincia) as well as to the locations of the ten sights. tauros chases are a common call with tourists, as are pincurchin stings (you can't pick them up like pyukumuku...), finizen incidents (they're friendly, but that doesn't make them safe!), clodsire poisonings (seriously, why do people insist on touching them?), and swooping squawkabilly (they are very territorial). one time i had to rescue someone who thought it'd be fun to try to ride on a wild klawf.
what you have to remember is the vast majority of people don't have much experience with wild pokemon. unless someone travels between towns frequently, went on a journey, or lives somewhere very rural, they may have no idea just how dangerous pokemon out in the wild can be. the pokemon that frequent urban and suburban areas are often habituated to people and have learned to live alongside them through generations of sharing spaces. but pokemon out in the wilderness tend to be much less docile. that's part of the reason it's still dangerous in the wild zones of lumiose city- the wild pokemon that started showing up there aren't your typical pidove scavenging for crumbs or meowth hoping to nab some loose change. many of those wild pokemon see people as a threat and absolutely will attack!
that's why education is so important...but unfortunately there's always going to be people who think it doesn't apply to them or haven't learned the hard way yet.
I noticed there's been an uptick in shiny pokemon at the center. Did something happen in Artazon? Or is this a normal flux and you're just showing them off more than usual?
the shinies i've been posting are not at the shelter! i'm interning with a lab that studies shiny pokemon this summer, so i really haven't been at the shelter much. i'm wrapping up my internship in the next couple weeks, though, so i'll post more shelter guys when i can! i'm starting my phd this year so i may not have as much time to volunteer unfortunately.

Wdym you hate Stratt? Without her you don’t get a story
Omg I love this piece. Grace the hanging man, content with his life but cannot avoid the changes coming; the ship his noose, the rope that binds him to his fate; the blood red stars beside him, Olesya and Yáo the angels haunting him in the background. Eva Stratt, the one who holds it all on her back, the world is literally on her shoulders, the Petrova line on her neck. She will not falter, cannot afford to move, and yet still she glares at us. Eva challenges us, daring us to ask if we could do better, if we could hold her burden for even a fraction of the time.
Eve, the mother of sin, who held the world in her hands and was cursed for not knowing.
Eva, director of the task force, who now holds the world, and still must curse man to save it.
In the end, it always falls on a woman. I could never hate you Eva Stratt

we all know that beinq introduced as "???" with a black silhouette as sprite feels qood as fuck BUT. you must imaqine beinq introduced as "!?"
She’s a girl with a wide taste range ok?
My favorite versions of the Evil Bigtops are the EB’s that actually have mental/emotional dirt on the humans.
“Stop saying those things!”
“Why, you’re thinking them?”
All that recent merch has me thinking of them as half abstracted creatures
Random question, but of the pokemon species you've worked with, which has the funniest and/or most chaotic zoomies?
it used to be that my answer was doduo, because watching them zoom around at max speed tripping over their feet, getting their necks tangled, and letting out absurd honking noises really is quite a treat...but ever since i saw a drifloon that got so excited before a battle that it inflated itself with air and shot around like a cartoon of a balloon getting let go, i'm gonna have to go with that
I recently started seeing a Honedge while out taking nature photos that has earned the name Klonk because he has enough rust on him that he doesn't seem to be able to cut as much as he just klonks things real hard. It doesn't seem to bother him too much but I'm wondering if I should call the rangers to do a bit of a wellness check on him
ooh, that's interesting...small patches of rust aren't uncommon in certain steel types as they get older and can't take care of themselves as well, but to be that rusty usually indicates a pokémon is unwell. it's possible that klonk just....possessed a really rusty sword? but it would be strange.
i would definitely call in the rangers and see if they can check on him. the honedge line really does rely on their ability to cut well. i'm also concerned that, if someone well-meaning sees him and tries to intervene, they might grab him and get their life force drained. better to go ahead and get him checked out now than wait for that to happen!
Have we ever seen what ghost types that posses objects look like naturally ? Like honedges before finding a sword? Are they just ghost types we already know about, like a haunter for example ?
it really depends on the pokemon! for the most part, they aren't pokemon until they take over whatever object they're holding. they're spirits, often either of people that died unsatisfied or of intense emotions that manifest physically. the main exception to this is banette, which only truly forms into a pokemon when a doll filled with resentful energy attracts a shuppet, which then merges with the energy.
sometimes the energy these spirits give off can be seen as colorful bits of light called wisps, but to be honest it's rare to actually catch sight of them in this state.
