First Annotation for My Final Paper (a Small News Article from Research)
Craven P. (2005, Sep 6). Boy scouts have many admirable qualities. Brazosport Facts. The (Clute, TX). Retrieved from http://infoweb.newsbank.com/resources/doc/nb/news/10C7848696A65ED0?p=AWNB
This little news article is something so simple, but says a lot about the youth in Boy Scouts of America. It starts off by stating that it is a study on youth in Boy Scouts of America verses those who are not in scouting. Then, it states facts about youth in America, such as boys are more likely to be involved in violent behavior more than girls, some youth are not well stimulated enough to take on leadership roles, how poorly some youth do in school, etc. After their study was complete, the results were incredible. Those youth who are in Boy Scouts of America proved to “better off” and “more motivated” to do good and succeed verses those who were not in scouting. Those who were in scouting showed more motivation to do good in school, graduate from high school and college (along with honors), take on leadership positions (whether it be school, work, etc.), volunteer more, have a selfless attitude, show servant leadership qualities, and more. This has shown many people that scouting instills values and morals into the youth within Boy Scouts of America.
I can use this small news article for my final paper because this shows people that scouting isn’t just about camping and earning patches or awards. The Boy Scout movement is all about preparing today’s youth for their future. It is all about instilling those values, ethics, and morals into these youth so that way they can be better prepared. These youth are more likely to volunteer and help out wherever they are. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. It could be as simple as picking up a pencil for someone at school, or, helping someone load their groceries in their car. These are also aspects of servant leadership, which a major key within scouting, along with taking on leadership positions. These things better prepare the youth for, not only the future, but everyday situations, as well. Those values, ethics, and morals help my argument, and that is why I can use this small news article for my final paper.
This is excellent information about boy scouts of America. In my opinion I feel as if you should had more information on exactly how to join the boy scouts and the positive and negative aspects on being apart of the boy scouts. Overall great topic!
