John Blanche died fuck all life
rest in peace to the OG, the greatest of all time. No one else has ever done it like him.
the style of writing is not the problem, not the genre, not the subject matter, not even the words themselves. the SINGLE defining issue with the “Tumblr Prose” style i was trying to tackle is that it’s front loaded with imagery and metaphor and completely lacking in sense, reason, symmetry, motion, conveying information. i agree that plenty of writing can sound good and feel good to read when it’s all metaphor and visceral images but it needs to have a baseline that can carry it through or else the tail wags the dog and it’s all cool “quotable” lines and no substance, nothing to read between the lines, no character
has anyone considered that it was probably her house too. where else was she supposed to put her chintz?
love this image bc what did the princess do to make the crowd shout and throw tomatoes at her. i know it wasnt nothing
I'm imagining a world where RPGMaker somehow made it as the de facto codebase for software and you have to navigate your banking app by walking around in a huge room full of NPCs named "make deposit" and "make withdrawal" etc and there's loud as fuck stock music playing
the reason people think LLMs are conscious is because they use natural language. we evolved to understand speech and to specifically understand speech as representative of the internal world of the speaker. the only creatures we spoke to were conscious. we evolved specifically to have greater empathy and kinship via conversation - the main way people come to understand each other and feel closer is still just talking.
all that has happened to dorkins is he has fallen into an evolutionary trap. the exact same trap that those tiktokers who believe their dog can talk to them by jumping on buttons have fallen into. because the buttons create a simulacrum of language, however crude, the listening brain itself constructs a simulacrum of the internal world of the perceived speaker. Because that is what it already evolved to do with the only available speakers in its evolutionary history!!!!!!
people are so evolutionarily hardwired to see conscious agency and communication in the world that for our entire history we have ascribed agency, communication and personhood to earthquakes, the weather, diseases, stillbirths, the arrangement of entrails, dreams, and much more besides. To this day we have to remind people that wild animals are not like people and do not have our internal world lest they become new Timothy Treadwells!

jerma: listen... i just really like strawberries and bananas! (suppressed giggle) it's not- it's not weird to like fruit. to enjoy a yummy strawberry on a summer's day! (looks at chat) "strawberries are weird and gross". what?! huh?!? listen to yourself!! what are you even saying?!?

northernlion: Do. Do you ever think about those half-time events where they give away free tuition to whichever college student could sink a basketball into the hoop? How fucked up would it be if you were the person who didn't sink in a basketball and your only thought while an entire stadium is applauding your classmate is "If I'd only sunk one more ball in I wouldn't have had crippling debt"? They got college students out here in the damn hunger games and what? (reads chat) "...hey NL it's just for fun you know what fun is right". you're morally bankrupt. and you will never see the light of heaven. motherfucker. (shouting) AT LEAST IF THEY WERE KILLING EACH OTHER FOR SPORT WE COULD BE HONEST ABOUT WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON THERE!!! (adjust headphones) Anyway...

I love the genre of youtube video that exists right now where people talk about everything you "need to know" before deltarune chapters 3 & 4 are released but like they all take it for granted that the easter egg and arg stuff that the fandom has been making theories about for the past few years will definitely 1) be plot relevant in the next two chapters and 2) when it is plot relevant the game will be written in such a way that if you hadn't been keeping up with the easter eggs you would not understand what's happening
do you really think that this game is going to "reveal" gaster by saying "hey you know that weird little easter egg in chapter one that most players will never encounter. yeah that guy was a character we have no reason to assume you know anything about!". or do you think this game is going to tell an actual story where important information is conveyed to the player
everything you need to do to prepare for the next two chapters of deltarune: if it's been a while and you want a refresher, replay deltarune chapters one and two. maybe also replay undertale if you feel like it.
if after that there ends up being something in chapters three and four that you are able to encounter on the save file you used to play through the first two chapters but you don't understand because you missed out on the Deep Lore that you needed to poke around with websites and Fun values to find then like that's the game's fault not yours.
another really really fun trend in those types of videos is when people do the gaylor thing and take a direct statement like "there will only be one ending, but there's something more important than reaching the end" and actively try to contort their interpretation of it until it means "there will be multiple endings but only for those of you who are pure of heart enough to find all my secrets and uncover the True Ending"
or like people interpret "only what's in the game is considered canon" as "if you poke around enough in the game's files and read all the unused text that's where the Real Story is"
