“ i’m not done yet, ” he announces with a cold voice, letting his weight lean against the broad sword he’d plunged into the ground to regain himself with. his body is weighted down, now, though his mind is clearer than it was when he’d so blindly charged upon first sight of the other. “ it’s not that easy ... ”

somehow, he knew it would come to this. this meeting was inevitable, and the pain was to be expected. it was always going to be, never going to not be. the tensions had been too high for too long for this to not happen, for the composure to not snap.

he hears the word and can’t help but to picture the snake speaking it --- tongue sharp, tone dark & dangerous. he’d been forced to the ground by something only moments earlier; his brain too taken with bitter rage and frustration to understand what. forced on his hands and knees like a dog ... no wonder it was easy to call him pathetic.

iwaizumi wipes the blood from his nose with his knuckles and grunts. he doesn’t grovel. he fights, flesh and blood and fire, until the skin on his fists wears away and leaves him fighting with the pale bones beneath. he fights until the marrow wears away, too, and he’s just an idea --- burning away.

“ that’s bullshit, ” he hisses out between grit teeth, & he finds that it’s hard not to call him ‘ shittykawa ’ out of old habit, “ you’re getting everything you deserve. i should’ve done this a long time ago. ”

        ″ ah, i don’t want to be a bother, but …  i’d appreciate that, iwaizumi-san. ″  she has a small cloth wrapped around a delicate hand   (  sticky and saturated like red jupiter  ),  deliberately concealing the worst of the gash acquired when she’d tried to help take down the net poles —- an unpleasant product of her inattention.

“ it’s not bothersome at all, ” he gives her reassurance in a voice that comes out stricter than he meant. this sometimes happens with his own team --- though that’s often stubbornness that drives his teammates to avoid asking for help --- but he’s never been one to say no to someone in need, no matter the circumstances. “ it looks like it hurts. ”
