🚨 Keep Android Open - Reject App Verification 🚨

For those who didn't know, Google will soon push a nonconsentual update to ALL Android devices (likely including Samsung phones as well) that requires all app developers to:

pay a fee to Google

agree to Google's ToS

list all current and future app identifiers

provide evidence of a private signing key

submit a government ID to Google

The dangers of this include:

The destruction of all alternative app stores, including F-Droid

No privacy for developers and higher barrier to entry for development

Giving Google total control over what software you can install on YOUR device.

All internal betas, first apps, privacy tools, etc. will go through Google's systems.

Google will likely comply with all government requests for app removals.

The sole bypass can be removed at any time by Google with no OS updates.

Censorship, plain and simple.

Removal of the freedom that caused people to use Android in the first place.

So what can I do?

First, reblog this post. Tag at will.

Second, go to https://keepandroidopen.org/ and follow their instructions to voice your concerns.

Third, spread the word and build up opposition. Even if they lock it down, keep fighting.

Fourth, NEVER COMPLY. Don't verify, avoid the update if possible, and generally make implementation hell for Google.

Your phone is about to stop being yours. In 2027, Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with them.

Totally normal for a legitimate for-profit company to refuse to reclaim or stop running their products even after they're no longer being paid to do so. I'm sure it's very normal to just keep running your service for free when your contract's been terminated. Spending money to continue running cameras that supposedly no one is looking at is definitely not an indicator they are just run by the federal government to spy on everyone and only a wacko conspiracy theorist would think so.

A friend helped me out by looking up the actual bill and YUP, it's to target queer people and sex education. NOT. STRIPPERS. STOP MAKING IT ABOUT THE FUCKING "STRIPPERS".

Anyone who thinks ladyshinga might be off track, here's the breakdown.

Actual bill name: Stop the Sexualization of Children Act.

Purported purpose: "to protect children from being exposed to explicit material in the classroom".

How it's sold in the press: "Ban strippers and porn from classrooms!"

Actual text of the bill: Expands the meaning of "sexually explicit content" to include the words "or involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism".

Not and. Or. Meaning "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" is in and of itself enough to be classified as sexually explicit.

Actual result: Illegal to mention the existence of trans people or admit to being trans in a classroom under threat of being prosecuted as a child sex offender.

I watched some videos by that guy who set up a fake ICE hotline to get people to snitch on members of their community. Not only is this very real and useful praxis- he's preventing these ghouls from reaching the real ICE- he also handles the calls in a really amazing way.

For the most part, he doesn't make accusations or insults people, he just repeats back the appalling shit they're telling him. And they get fucking furious. The example that went viral was him fielding a call from a kindergarten teacher who wanted to report one of her student's parents.

This absolutely disgusting piece of shit thought that the parents were "illegals" who were "taking up resources" because they weren't born in the US. The child was a US citizen because he was born here, but she wanted the "ICE" agent to "look into it."

So this dude just starts repeating stuff back like "so you want me to load the parents of the 5-year-old child you teach into a van and deport them, right?" and this bitch has the gall to say "you make it sound terrible 😅" in a self-conscious way. And then when he finally makes a more direct insult by nonchalantly saying that the 5-year-old "must be a major threat to national security," she demands to speak to his supervisor (which he agrees to and then makes no effort to change his voice for lmao).

This is far from the only call where the whole "repeat their rhetoric back to them" tactic pisses the caller off, too. As rotten, immoral, and disgusting as these ghouls are, I believe there's a tiny part of them that is aware of how fucked up their beliefs and behavior are. Being forced to confront that leads to painful cognitive dissonance and they'd rather lash out at the person who criticized them than look inward and do some self-reflection. Forcing people to confront their own cognitive dissonance of "I'm a good person" clashing with "I have objectively gross and harmful beliefs" is useful, even if it will never go anywhere.
