Who am I?

Heyo, I'm Orsan! (not my real name ofc, we gotta keep some anonymity on here)

I'm a student at Blueberry Academy and a Psychic specialist. I'm... trying my best to be a good battler, it's kinda my weak spot. I'm more into a lot of the sciences-- history, ecology, astronomy, biology, etc. I love discussing these things and have a lot of thoughts about a lot of things, so I finally decided to stop lurking and make an account!

Other facts about me:

My favorite Pokémon and closest partner is an Oranguru, even though my starter was my then-Blipbug. He might make appearances on here from time to time-- he's scary smart.

I'm a big geocacher-- I love exploring off the beaten path!

For a while, I kept seeing stuff from the pokemon irl community and not interacting because i wasn't a blog in that sphere. After a pokemon irl blog followed me, i decided to bite the bullet and make this blog lol. I love pokemon lore, so expect a lot of obscure canon details and a lot of detailed, but still fitting, headcanons. (this leads to a character who knows a lot about a lot of things but with poor people skills lol) pkmn-irl orsan is kinda an expy of me, pokemon lore knowledge in tow, but with a more complicated backstory and some Issues lol

the name of the move doesn't prove it exists. human committees named those moves, not the universe. Melvin has aura sphere, I have active experience usin it. it's fighting type. read it with any scanner, it's fighting. that's why it's listed like that, it doesn't use some mystic taurosshit that doesn't have enough supportin evidence to be called anything more than psuedoscience

link me the peer-reviewed paper if you wanna prove me wrong.

i dont have a peer-reviewed paper (because studies on this topic are unfortunately quite thin due to the lack of a solid human sample. also I'm not this anon), but there's definitely supporting evidence. it's not conclusive, i definitely agree it's misused and a little bit suspicious in places, but i also don't think writing it off *entirely* is the right decision either. it might exist, it might not!

Even outside of Aura Sphere, Mega Lucario's black streaks are a biological thing we can perceive with no explained cause. (not the new one. the one we've known about for centuries. frankly though i think studying the new one may give us a definitive result) the only theorized cause that hasn't been *dis*proven as far as i know is aura. its perception is heightened by aura. (I'm not a mega evolution scholar-- i gathered this from some quick research that may be a bit out of date)

there's also Riolu's communication method-- i am unable to find a convincing theory for how they know emotions innately as a non-Psychic other than the existence of aura

plus, even regular lucario have been shown to be able to sense feelings up to a half-mile away. that's quite far-- it being just bioenergy fluctuations or psychic energy is a little dubious, especially for a non-Psychic-type Pokemon without any kind of means of projecting psychic signal (like Dottler's natural radome)

we have testimony of humans (albeit vanishingly rarely) able to wield aura, also, particularly in historical records from the area around Kanto

i agree that it's partially stupid, and people definitely have seen aura in places it isn't. (cutiefly is often attributed to being able to read aura or whatever. that one has been shown to be false-- it reacts to life energy on some level. it reacts to the whole deal with Geosenge Town and all of that.) anyone who claims to be able to read aura is almost certainly trying to scam you or an idiot. but it's definitely not impossible that it *exists*. Lucario has several odd biological quirks that are as far as I'm aware unexplained, and aura would fill that hole, but. there are definitely alternative explanations

I'm already a bit dubious about human psychics, much less human "aura wielders"

atleast with psychics, I know it's atleast theoretically possible, we're descendant from psychic types, and while human bioenergy levels are very low, it's atleast plausible. but humans usin a force we haven't even properly documented, my first instinct is to assume they're idiots, or atleast take it with a whole truckload a salt

I'll admit I don't think it's impossible, our understanding of the world has been thrown on its head several times, darwinian evolution, plate tectonics, bioenergy itself, and if we weren't tryina prove ourselves wrong we wouldn't be doin science

but I'm not about to throw the hand to anecdotal evidence and mysteries with other, simpler explanations, not just yet

I'll admit I don't know much about mega evolution, so I couldn't tell you jack or shit about the validity of that claim, but from what little I know, I'd hypothesize the extendin markings are from the huge influx of energy brought by mega evolution, like how it radically changes a pokemon's body otherwise

as for lucario not bein able to read bioenergy or psychic energy that far, we know other pokemon can do that, and it should be noted that lucario are incredibly sensitive and it takes alot to develop that level of reach at all. and as for readin emotions without psychic typing, there's several that can do that too, like a number of fairy types, and that's part of what the psychic energy is proposed to explain. I mean psychic activity, not specifically psychic type

I am open to be proven wrong, if it exists or if it doesn't we can't really say. it's not impossible, but I don't think right now there's enough solid evidence to treat it as somethin substantial.

serin mysteries we can't explain is how we learn new things in science, and if that day comes for aura I'll concede, but until we get real, solid documentation on its existence and its effects, more than random people or the quirks of one species, I'm not about to hold my breath

Which Fairy-types can actually read emotion that are not also Psychic? The only Fairies I know of that can do that are Ralts and its evolutions, the Galarian variant of Ponyta, and Hatterene, but all of those are Psychics. The closest I can think of are mons like Audino (who isn't a Fairy but gains it through Mega Evolution, and who senses emotion via hearing physiological reactions, akin to something like a Gogoat detecting it from grip on its horns), the aforementioned Cutiefly (flourishing life energy is usually correlated with positive emotions, after all), and Impidimp, who feeds off negative emotions. from my experience with my own Morgrem, even though that line feeds off negative emotions, it doesn't show any particular affinity for *detecting* them beyond what it can immediately eat, and certainly not on the same level as Lucario. there's others that *affect* emotions, like Sylveon and Aromatisse, but none that show nearly as much predilection for actually detecting emotions like Lucario do. (I'm setting aside Alola's Tapus due to a lack of information.)

Otherwise yeah i do mostly see what you're saying. aura is Weird, even if it does exist, so i agree we shouldn't treat it like this thing that's guaranteed to exist like many do.

(dubious about human psychics? that's a long-held cultural tradition! there are entire families of psychics! The movie star Sabrina is psychic! Olympia (the kalosian author) is psychic! multiple Elite Fours have or had known and respected psychics among their ranks! (Unova immediately jumps to mind, but there's also Johto's!) i have also personally met a psychic in my own [limited] travels!)

So, like, what actually are Life Orbs? I found one the other day, and I've just kinda had it sat on my desk for a little while. I really shouldn't have just carried it home like I did-- it made me tired and lethargic for a bit. hope there's no lasting effects... anyone know what to do with it? I lowkey don't want to give it to my Pokemon if it sucks life or whatever

I was all good to head to mainland Unova for a bit... I was offered a trip to Lumiose by a friend, but I don't really wanna go that far from home right now. Especially wrt that new Z-A Royale thing.

Unless they announce the discovery of Mega Slowking or Bronzong or something. Oranguru is probably a biological impossibility...

Anyway. Probably going to hike around some of Unova's ruins. Make a study trip out of it, so I'm not totally falling behind on school. (I'll probably also have to go to the Battle Subway or fight a Gym or something for battling credit, which, :/, esp with the Multi Trains closed.)

I'm going to second the other reblog-- my guess would be an allergy.

however, it probably isn't your floral perfume. or, if so, there's other factors at play-- Cutiefly is pretty unique (or at least says my five minute research). unlike, say, Beautifly, which finds flowers by sight, Cutiefly actually senses their aura, much like Riolu can. auras like a blooming flower attract it-- did you just receive some good news or something?

I'm wondering how different people think religion works in the Pokemon world considering the many legendaries and potential systems of belief.

Arceus is the creator of the universe, but there are many deities under him, like Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza (who is canonically worshipped by his own group, the Hoennian Draconids), Dialga, Palkia, etc. Would it make sense for everyone to worship Arceus, and then additionally worship whichever gods they prefer? Or do some people not worship Arceus?

In my opinion, it makes sense for everyone to worship Arceus as he is the closest thing to a "true god", since he created the world and uses his divine judgement against it. (The Draconids don't seem to worship Arceus, though, just Rayquaza. Though this could be due to Rayquaza originating from Gen 3 and Arceus coming later in Gen 4.)

At any rate, what do you guys think?

Based on what the games show, religion is more localized-- if you go somewhere, you're likely to find people worshipping or otherwise honoring local relevant Pokemon, even if not legendary. The Loyal Three, Rayquaza, Landorus, the Original Dragon, and even Bronzong have all been stated to be worshipped in various places. There likely isn't one global religion. (Everyone worshipping Arceus as a fandom thing feels like an imitation of western religion in a way I'm kinda unsure about...)

Even Arceus, while explicitly addressed as the only deity-like pokemon in Masters, is not widely mentioned or worshipped. I imagine many mythology buffs would know of it, but the common person might not know many details, or even know of it at all. (Masters even has characters like N and Jacq unaware of its importance!)

Just because Arceus created the world doesn't mean many people know that or directly honor it-- even if they do know, it's not really relevant to them. Why would they pay heed to it when Bronzong brings rain and Sigilyph protects them and the Loyal Three supposedly defeated an ogre threatening the town? That's all much more important to an individual person than the creator of the entire world.

Legendaries aren't deities, just powerful creatures -- sometimes animals, sometimes spirits. They can be guardians and protectors and worshipped, but that doesn't make them deities.

Yeah I agree about Pokemon World religion not being shaped like Western religion. What we see in the games definitely seems more influenced by Japanese culture and worldviews. (which. yknow. makes sense.) And I agree that most people probably wouldn't know about Arceus (Dialga, Palkia, and the Lake Trio seem to be the Sinnohan legendaries that are actually known about and talked about by the people of Sinnoh in DPPt, whereas Arceus is left to events and tiny snippets of lore).

A recurring theme in the series is also 'traditional ways of living vs. progress and modernity' and that's reflected by a number of characters seeming to view legendary pokemon as something to be scientifically curious about, rather than something to worship or venerate, so it's likely that many pkmn-world people don't follow any religion at all.

Honestly even the Lake Trio seem to be elusive, at least before the events of DPPtBDSP-- they're not widely known and characters are only informed of them through research. Even Dialga and Palkia kind of fall into this, with the incorrect depiction in Eterna City! If there's any widely known legendary in Sinnoh in the modern day (before the events at Spear Pillar, at least), it's probably Cresselia-- that's the only one we witness random people knowing about. Even then, though...

Okay let's think this through. The main factors here are size, strength, and typing.

The average Rapidash is about 5 foot 7. The average Psyduck is about 2 foot 7. That's a difference of 3 feet, but that does not mean Rapidash is particularly big. That's an average height for a human. This means the single "rapidash sized psyduck" is not that big. It's 5 foot 7, which again is like average for a human.

What about power? Rapidash's base stat total is 500. That's the same as Alakazam, Gengar, and Wailord. Definitely impressive! Meanwhile, Psyduck sits at a lowly 320. Even at an average human height, a Psyduck still only has the power level of a little Cubone.

Typing! As a water type, the large-ish Psyduck does have the advantage here. And it can learn Surf, which hits many enemies at once! But Rapidash learns Solar Beam, a grass type move. While Solar Beam does need a turn to charge up, the Psyduck isn't strong enough to kill every Rapidash with Surf while they're all charging.

Ultimately, the height of the Pokemon does not matter when their base stat totals are so radically different. The Psyduck is simply too weak no matter its size to take out all the Rapidashes with Surf before they can charge and attack with Solar Beam.

It's hard to make friends on here when most people are hardcore trainers taking on the leagues and whatnot. I totally respect their journeys, but I have no interest and can't really relate to their adventures.

I have 3 Pokemon as pets- Anne the Stoutland, Caroline the Deerling, and Elise the Murkrow. I don't post that much on here in general but I want to post more silly stories about their antics! These girls get into lots of lighthearted mischief and I love them deer-ly... haha!

Hey anyone with ghost pokemon (or pokemon with the ability to teleport/phase through solid walls) do you have advice for returning pokemon who have stolen their own pokeball and hidden them in the crawl space?

i don't have a ghost-type, but i do train mostly Psychic-types, who can hide their balls in a number of novel ways. in my case, i'd try and use my other pokemon to retrieve the ball-- do you have any Pokemon, or anyone in your life with a Pokemon, who can help with that?

I know at least for me I can usually get my calmer pokemon to help talk down some of my more rambunctious ones-- perhaps that's something you can try? i don't know much about ghosts, but maybe you could convince it to get the ball itself? some psychics would be logical / smart enough to do that, idk about ghosts though

I have other ghost pokemon, but thimble usually stays corporeal and doesn't like to go into any weird spaces by herself (makes sense since her previous trainer just left her in Veridian forest) and Fwip just does his own thing?? Idk he likes just floating around, he's not usually the most useful

hmm that's tough. ghost types are prone to playing pranks, right? If it isn't a prank, the pokemon might genuinely be dissatisfied with how you use the ball. i can't make judgements about that situation though. if it is a prank, it'll probably be returned eventually. maybe. idk I don't work with ghosts often.

on the topic of the ball, though, poke balls are vaguely somewhat magnetic, owing to the iron used in the production of the clasping mechanism. Modern balls often use a lighter metal but still a bit of iron-- if the ball is handcrafted or if you have a really strong magnet, you could try and get it out of the crawlspace that way? (Assuming you have access in there at all)

or maybe if you have PC software on your phone, you could try and store the ball from where you are, and then bring the phone out and then the ball? idk how that works with a pokemon outside its ball though

Just spitballing. You might have to see about getting it into the crawlspace yourself unfort. wish I could offer more advice
