hi, i too would like to talk about emily charlton

i fully see the conflict between her being like an ice queen vs baby girl. she's such a complex character and we know nothing about her lol. however, i do personally see as super soft and needy (?) once she feels safe and comfortable, it's just that we never see that. and it would never happen in public or at work

i also see where you're coming from with her relationship with andrea, the teetering between taking control and letting go. for me, it depends on if it's dwp1 andy or dwp2 when she's more confident. also, andy's more patient and understanding approach would probably disarm her eventually, i think. like it seems like she has no idea how to handle genuine affection ( I head canon something fucked was going on during her childhood and her attachment style is either avoidant-dismissive or anxious)

like a rescue cat that's hissing and swiping her claws any time you even look at her but follows you everywhere. love her

Mmm, I very much see the 'soft baby but strictly in private' vision and YES! The difference in her being in control/not, I feel, is very dependent on the movie (that might have been what I was previously trying to say, but I reiterate I was so tired making that post 😭 )

Also the cat analogy made me GIGGLE cus not only is it painfullly accurate but I've also used the same analogy in my attempts are writing her lol (nothing posted...yet)

The closest equivalent is clearly east asian cuisine, which is indeed Very Broad, but i mean it more like flavor-wise not as those same actual dishes.

because, uh, they live in a cave. they are eating moss.

moss, mushrooms (yum!), algae, insects (snails, spiders, ants… honestly probably giant amphipods too.) and seaweed strips, weird fuzzball fungi, seaweed/bark flour. cave fish, cavegrown plants, and apparently aquatic versions of fruits like crabapples.

most of their fruits seem to be aquatic, which makes sense since Waterfall is basically the only place you could grow anything other than the ocassional flower, they got like chinampas somewhere.

Of course, they are like mutated versions because they are growing without sun, maybe it's just magic (they got onions that don't make you cry, which is an odd detail).

Uhh i could see them eating pinecones, lotus, basically any plant that isn't golden flowers. They figure how to eat cattails, which was great for the hot dog industry.

For drinks, they realy love their teas. sea tea is literally marsh water. “milk” is diluted tree sap. ig spider cider is a thing too, but that may just be a soup (since it has whole spiders, and not just the juice). cave water lol

snail pie is canonically an acquired taste. there’s spinach egg (don't worry about the eggs.) pie, fried dough like croquet rolls. they also have “junk food,” which is literally food found in the dump (like dog salad). Everyhthing is chewy, fibrous... they probably also like jelly-like textures.

they eat rocks too. my best guess is clay, since that’s at least somewhat edible although Hotland def has more variety. starfaits are made of something shiny, so honestly who knows what’s going on there (they’re sprinkling glitter in it)

they have sweets too, like spider candy, colorful obleas, cinnamon rolls shaped like bunnies. they really like cinnamon. They’re big on shaping food into cute or recognizable forms. Mmm, unrelated but they are big on fermentation too.

More on junk food! they also try to recreate human food but aren't ghreat at it, considering their reference is the spoiled version that is also buried in garbage water. Sometimes they get it almost right, they have soda tthat is very very sweet and also very plain.

they even have “meat” (meat factory ost my beloved), and.... what do they think meat tastes like??? it’s probably just really dense mushrooms. i hope. (vegetoids do have something weird going on though,,,
