this might be a very controversial thing to say but it annoys me so bad when i hear people complain about ai using water when they don't do any actual research into things that also use it
the meat industry uses 200 times more water than the ai industry. Like i understand that veganism and vegetarianism isn't accessible to everyone but for the majority it absolutely is. Yes, boycott ai, but also actually take a second to think about the things that do even worse

every vegan post by omnivores i follow is a defense of why they "cant" go vegan and every vegan post by vegans i follow is a rebuttal of those defenses and basically i just want everyone to stop beinging up hypothetical ppl who cant go vegan bc of extreme allergies and just ask YOURSELF if you can or if you could even limit your animal product intake because its literally, evidently, and unequivocally the best thing you could do for the animals and the planet
One piece of harm reduction knowledge that never gets brought up and I wish was talked about more, because it's relevant to my own ED experiences, is that restricting and/or purging while drinking heavily puts you at a much higher risk of developing something called Korsakoff's Syndrome. It's a type of dementia almost exclusively caused by a combination of alcoholism and lack of nutrition.
As well as all the usual symptoms of dementia it can also cause you to replace memories with fabricated ones and to hallucinate. Depending on how much you're drinking and how much you're restricting, you can develop it quite young. Because I was drinking heavily at the height of my ED, I am now at an increased risk of Korsakoff's Syndrome. And this scares me.
This was in part thanks to a fatphobic doctor who prioritised me "losing my beer belly" over tackling my alcoholism and praised weight loss regardless of how I achieved it. But if you're an alcoholic with a beer belly, that beer belly could be saving you from cognitive decline.
So if you have problems with alcohol dependence, like I did, you should prioritise eating when you drink. It doesn't matter what it is you eat, it doesn't matter if alcohol is causing weight gain (as it often does). You are at a much higher risk of developing early onset dementia if you drink a lot and don't eat enough.
Diet culture will shame people for craving greasy, carb heavy "junk" food when drunk, but a big burger or a juicy kebab after you drink is so so much better for you and your mind than drinking without eating.
If you aren't at the point where ED recovery feels possible, or you're just starting recovery, try to limit your restriction and/or purging to days that you don't drink. And the more you drink, the more you should eat.
Maryland will become the first US state to ban surveillance pricing in retail stores, after passing Protection from Predatory Pricing Act.
Jesus fucking christ that this exists in the first place
I WAS FUCKING WONDERING WHAT THOSE DIGITAL PRICE TAGS WERE ABOUT SUDDENLY i had hoped they were so the workers didn't have to finagle those little papers into the slider part anymore 😭
Hi, yes, that is the OFFICIAL excuse made to me by the guy replacing the paper tags with digital ones at my local Walmart, but the end goal is to remove the numbers off the shelf entirely, replacing them with QR codes that you have to scan with the app…. Which requires your login information….. and also stores your card information so even if you didn’t use your Walmart account at the physical checkout, if you used a card they recognize, they assign that purchase to your Walmart account purchase history.
I explained very clearly to the manager my issue with the meat section not having the price tags listed, and they claimed it was only going to be for the meat, since meat is by weight, and the price of each item is printed on the packs of each item.
Sure. That’s how they get their foot in the door. Fast forward not even two weeks, and here we are:
Bar codes. No prices, no item descriptions. No price stickers on the individual items. Heck, not even the name of the item that is SUPPOSED to be there.
No. The only way to see the price is to scan it on your phone app, which is also recording what you looked at recently, as a way of gauging what you might be looking for in the future.
So here’s what we’re gonna do gang:
Every time you go into a store that has implemented these price-less tags:
Take 1-3 items up to the cash register. Ask the cashier for the price, or hit the price check item on the self checkout, which will likely call over the attendant.
Express that you didn’t actually want it, you just couldn’t see on the shelf how much it was.
POLITELY, AND WITH A THANK YOU FOR THE PRICE CONFIRMATION, Give the items to the cashier or attendant to put back.
When they inevitably try to push the app, politely decline. If pressed for why not, say you don’t want to have to carry your phone in-hand the whole time you are shopping in order to see how much things cost. (Not having cell service or data to use the app is NOT a valid excuse, as stores already often have complimentary WiFi AND more stores will provide WiFi rather than give up on this push for surveillance pricing)
If it’s a shelf-stable item, the cashier will have to set it aside, taking up room in their limited operating space, and eventually pass it off to someone to put in a holding area to put back later. If it’s a fridge/freezer item, it might have to get tossed due to food product sale regulations.
In either case, you are making it a pain in the ass for them to have these digital bar codes. Tie up the checkouts. Give the employees more busywork that the company has to pay them to do. Hurt their bottom line having to toss the pint of ice cream you carried around in your cart for 20 minutes before giving it back to the cashier.
Yes, call your reps. Yes, push for more legislation like this in more places. But also take an extra minute out of your shopping trip to MAKE IT HURT for companies to pull this shit.
As someone who has worked at Walmart, corporate
does not give one single solitary shit
how much hassle a policy creates for the employees. They literally have policies that are annoying and can't practically be followed. I'm pretty sure they don't take input from anyone who actually works inside the stores, including managers, unless it's of class-action lawsuit urgency.
If you're serious about hurting their bottom line, rule number one above all else is:
Stop giving them money, period.
If you have been, and still are, going straight to Walmart for everything you need to buy, they're still winning, no matter what else you do.
Higher-ups may or may not notice a big uptick in meat and salads having to be thrown out, and if they notice they may or may not connect the dots to the blank shelf labels, and even if they do, their most likely response is to tell the managers to tell the employees to work harder at getting things back into the coolers.
Again, if you're still buying from them, especially if they are THE place you do basically all your shopping, you're not offsetting that with some spoiled meat and salads.
i wish more people understood ACTUALLY 90's grunge, not the modernized stuff you see if you simply search "#grunge" on tumblr,,, no it's NOT those stupid fucking cat beanies and it's NOT cavetown or therians or clip on tails‼️ plus grunge is NOT just fashion but music as well; a subculture overall
