Many times while hiking this trail I've felt like it's just me and my shadow supporting each other. There's no one out here and I ask myself why am I doing this? Walking through Asheville answered that question. The experiences I had this weekend with day hikers, trail maintenance workers, my friend that I haven't seen since I was 10, the hobo under the bridge that I conversed with shortly after this picture was taken, the biker that showed me how to drive his sick Suzuki, friends who drive hours just to shuttle you, the views from the valleys and from 5000+ ft within a few miles of each other... Make every step worth it.
