okay i'll tell you some details about dq10 that are NOT spoilers but, i went in mostly blind and not really sure what it was was about so if you want the blind experience, don't read this
so first some context: the game initially released as version 1.0 with a whole story, there were major content updates running to version 1.5 which added side quests with their own little side stories, but the main story of version 1 had a final boss but then left off on a note to be continued in an expansion. so the base game is version 1.
the first expansion released initially as version 2.0 but it was only the first chapter of the version 2 story, it had major content updates running to version 2.4 with each bringing another chapter of version 2's story, ending with another final boss. thus version 2 is the first expansion but 2.0 is the first chapter of it and 2.4 is the last chapter.
likewise, version 3 is the second expansion but ran to 3.5 with the final update actually bringing 2 chapters the community calls 3.5 early and 3.5 late.
subsequent expansions ran to 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 only with one chapter per update. the most recent expansion is version 7 and ran to 7.6.
now, a spoiler free explanation of what each version is about. note: i'll use the names i mostly learned from the fan translation with some minor changes cause i don't like all of the fan translation team's choices. additionally, some things may have been localised differently in crossover appearances in other games and may be localised even more differently if some version of dq10 DOES get localised some day.
version 1: awakening of the five tribes (2012-2013). a brief prologue tells of you as a human in ethene village in the continent of lendersia in the world of astoltia before you're murdered, lendersia is sealed in shadows, and you get reborn in the body of one of 5 other races of your choice. you travel around the five continents that are homes to the 5 races, each being an island separated from the others but connected but a grand railway. in a quest to gain notoriety so you can slay the foul villain that murdered you and break the seal on lendersia. this isn't connected to dq9 but a major side story released in updates name drops greygnarl like once.
version 2: the sleeping hero and guiding ally (2013-2014). you finally get to go to lendersia, it's a centre continent not conncted by the railway but a large ship called the grand titus is used to reach it. when you first arrive however, everything is not quite as it seems...
version 3: lore of the anicent dragon (2015-2017). travel to the lost 7th continent of nadragand which once floated in the skies of astoltia. discover the lost race of dragon people, the nadravians and why they were sealed. learn a lot about the 7 gods that created the 7 races.
version 4: the 5000 year journey to a faraway hometown (2017-2019). this one's just straight up about time travel, an ability you demonstrated in version 1 but, knew little of. you travel to a different time period in each chapter and learn about the origin of your powers and yourself.
version 5: the maiden of thorns and the god of destruction (2019-2021), i think the fan translation says 'the thorny maiden' which is just silly. travel to the demon world, learn all about the source of the demon miasma that has plagued the world from the start. and the nature of the goddess that created astoltia and the 7 race gods. version 5 was originally intended to be the final expansion so expect a big, climactic ending.
version 6: heroes of the heavens (2021-2023). travel to the illusory land in the sky, the firmament, with the divine capital fourion. home of the angels, followers of the goddess, lutiana, and the true origins of the source darkness, the greatest threat to all of creation from beyond the stars. this is where it starts to actually connect with dq9 because the angels seem to be decended from THE angels, localised as celestrians.
version 7: the door to the future and the slumbering girl (2024-2025). okay, i personally still need to tackle the final chapter at the time of writing but this where it's all connected. leave astoltia behind because we're going to the homeworld of the gods that was ravaged by the true evil of version 6, zeniath. this is where it's at. zeniath seems to be the world of dragon quest ix, at some point in the distant future. celestria isn't around anymore, another successor to the title of almighty rules. nine, aquilla, corvus, they're all long gone i'm afraid but traces of their exploits remain. we only see the north-eastern continent with what was angel falls, stornway, zere, and coffinwell and some pieces of other regions
version 8: the lost children of time and space (2026-???). currently version 8 is set to drop june 25th. that's still 3 weeks away. pre-release content is showing characters that look just like existing dq10 characters but different so i would guess it's some sort of au type thing but that's just my own speculation, we don't even have a trailer for it yet.
Pavo is not a super well documented character, I think she might literally only exist as the person at the multiplayer gate to explain it's features, but she's been gradually getting meatier roles and honestly good for her because her design is awesome :)

Anyway this my first guy! My favorite Owl Guy! Hootingham Gore from Dragon Quest 9 Sentinels of the Starry Skies. I'm hoping that if he lives with a bunch of friendlier owls, he won't turn out so evil. It's like socialization but for talking owls.
And I added Hooty next. As a powerful bug worm owl, he'll be helpful in by providing a high energy, chaotic but friendlier profile flavor to the Owl Island soup
Blathers and Wan Shi Tong the Library Guardian are quieter, more knOWLedgeable owls, with a vast array of research at their disposal. Allowing them to create some sterner, more grounded flavor for the island owl city soup.
This is Big Mama from the Fox and the Hound. The only woman at the moment, the Sentient talking Owl gender balance is very much skewed I will have to track down some more lady Owls for the island soup which Big Mama gives warmth and a homemade feel to it.

i've always loved the femiscyran mail design even if it's like. yknow. impractical woman armour [it's cool...i thought it was cool................i still think it's cool...........] but i've always been somewhat confused by how it's actually affixed to anything. this has only become more troubling to me now that i can actually make chainmail.
like, with the way its been draped implied that it's not a Sheet of chainmail which has been affixed to rings, but rather something akin to a Sack or folded sheet that's held in place by rings. you'd be better off knitting in a chainmail esque manner to recreate this because making this with actual rings would be infuriating. not because it's undoable is just unnecessarily difficult extra work. i suppose at least for the "skirt" part it being a sack of sorts means it Could in theory serve as a bag or large pocket. but the idea of throwing my items into a metal sack sounds awful so i hate that. anyway once i get top surgery i'll be making this for myself albeit with like. a skirt of sorts. i have my limits.
