The Sack of Rome in 410 by the Vandals (1890), Joseph-Noël Sylvestre
The Beatles’ 6th studio album was released in the UK on 3 December 1965 (and 5 days later in the US).
Recorded in just over a month (12 October - 11 November), following the band’s 2nd world tour, Rubber Soul was seen by the band as a self-contained artistic statement, and no songs were released as singles (non-album tracks ”Day Tripper”/”We Can Work it Out” was released as a double-A side single on the same day).
The US version contain 10 of the 14 songs on the UK release, with 2 songs withheld from the UK release of Help! (removing “Drive My Car”, “Nowhere Man”, “What Goes On” and “If I Needed Someone” and including “I’ve Just Seen a Face” and “It’s Only Love”).
Rubber Soul sold more than 1 million copies in the US in the first 9 days of its release. The album topped the US chart for 6 weeks, would remain in the Top 20 until July, and remain on the charts until December 1966. It would go on to sell 6 million copies in the US.
