Hollyberrians are not overly religious cookies compared to the republic. Most have little care for the witches last their position as their creators however they do hold respect for elementals. A a reverence is given to The Sugar Swan and a healthy respect The Millennial Tree as they have a love hate relationship with the jungle (it’s has so many cookie eating creatures/foliage yet so many boons). They pay respect to Sea Fairy and Aquamarine Cookie (gem mermaid) for the carbonated waters they have and Wind Archer Cookie asking for forgiveness for them manipulating nature to their benefit and for the cool breeze of summer. In addition, tales of the (Greenish) Red dragon would drift in from the neighboring region of Dragon’s Valley caused by dragon hunter/adventurers returning/arriving from there.
Stories were told of these elementals and god amongst cookies during the time Hollyberry was a child living in a farming town/settlement. As an adult, she adds a few tales herself.
After her experience in the Garden of Sweet Delights, Hollyberry Cookie would share tales of paradise. At first, this mostly occurred when she was drinking berry juice at bars or partying with friends at the side of a campfire. They mostly are about the Bringer of Happiness herself and all that Hollyberry admired about her. Most cookies either pass them off as a drunken dream or her briefly dying and meeting the angel in charge of paradise.
In the first year of her reign, she established the holiday is order to bring up and together the spirits of her citizens. However, that was not where the story of the holiday began. In her home town, the celebration started out simple. Families cooks would share their favorite meal to make or eat. Craftsmen share their favorite work and share tales of why they love their craft. In simple terms, young and old both share their passions with others and why they find such happiness from them. It is meant to bring cookies closer by sharing the joy. Starting in her hometown, cookies spread word of it to other towns and by the time she became Queen, it morphed into an festival/informal talent show of people sharing their passions (make up artists doing faceing, dancers and musicians performing at every street corner. Farmers, bakers and cooks sharing samples of their favorite dish/fruits, designers walking around in their favorite costumes, theater groups presenting their favorite plays)
The core of the event is to share the things you love with others so you can smile together.
Hollyberry dresses herself and Royalberry up similar to the style of clothes the Sugar of Happiness wore (a sign of her love for her memories of the garden). Young Royalberry grew up admiring this angel his mother looked up to. An angsty/ironic idea I have is that he prayed that Sugar might come pick up his mother once more to help bring her happiness once more since he felt like a failure of a son for not being able to do so herself. (Little teenage Royalberry was a mama’s boy)
As an adult Royalberry designs and commissions outfits and jewelry for his family. This includes Wildberry since, while his mother and knight won’t say it to each other, Royalberry knows they love each other like mother and son and wishes they’d just let themselves be honest about it. Some jealousy does exist around the connection, but he does love both of them nonetheless.
Hollyberry, actually, does not drink on this day which is a surprise to everyone. She rather get everyone to taste her favorite brews and act as a shield when required rather than getting too drunk to do either effectively.
Jungleberry Cookie spends part of the day teaching children noble dances and the other demonstrating her abilities with the spear. (While she is a prim and proper lady, all hollyberrian nobles know how to defend themselves and others in case of emergencies.)
Princess Cookie shares tales of her travels just as her grandmother would. Also, shows off or shares descriptions of any fine treasures she had the chance to see and collect along the way.
Wildberry Cookie waits until later to share small jokes and silly names he’s given things (only to royal family + knight cookie).
Knight cookie spends most of the day stopping Princess Cookie from getting into too much trouble alone with her antics. When he does do a demonstration, most cookies are surprised at how skillful he is given they usually see him floundering by the side of Princess Cookie (who is naturally on the stronger end of cookies and trains just as steadfast as Knight does).
When they arrive, most hollyberians have an inkling of where they might be after catching sight of pavlova.
(I like the headcanon he was made alongside the garden in the sense his spirit is part of it. He eventual got a body, but just like Smoked Cheese’s it is tied to Eternal Sugar’s soul. It pairs nicely with my idea that she tried desperately to have a child of her own yet she “had a perfectly good son right there and ignored him because he wasn’t hers enough’.”)
Royalberry and Pavola do actually bond like brothers while the yuri gets toxic. When Wildberry getting hurt, the king is quick to realize it was purposeful unlike his mother. He does not take this lying down and goes to Sugar to speak his mind about how dare she use his brother in-all-but-dough to manipulate his mother, and how he regrets ever wishing she and his mother might reunite. He even throws in a line about neglecting Pavlova despite literally making him.
Eternal Sugar refuses to see a pavlova is growing up and traps him forever as a child while forcing him to do her bidding at risk of death or worse eternal sleep. Which is why he will throw away the duties whenever he gets the chance.
Hollyberry struggles against treating him as a child and an adult all at once (both when he was a teenager and parent himself) and messed up by handing the throne over too early in a pursuit to show she trusts his ability and hope to escape the role herself. Will do his best to help knowing her heart is in the right place though wishing it didnt seem like she was always avoiding being alone with him when she visits home.
On the way out of the paradise, Pavlova does not like Hollyberry and Wildberry on Royalberry's behalf at first (also not liking Jungleberry -a mom- and Princess -a very femininin presenting girl- both of which remind him of Eternal Sugar) but slowly sees that those traits don’t make someone untrustworthy their actions do and that Hollyberry is trying to be better.
Pavlova, on the Day of Delights, would be uncomfortable at first because of its connections to the garden, but after Royalberry and the rest start introducing him their own passions and him seeing Sugarfly start soaring again, he gets the courage to share his love of stories. He wears clothing more normal to hollyberrians on that day as a sign of his changed allegiance. In fact, it is more fitting for the daily where of a hollyberriannoble than the paradise inspired outfits majority wears. Most of these outfits were more costume or extravagant in style, more fitting for a gala or convention rather than the average day to day. All colors of the rainbow and more could be found. Most were either bright or deep in color however a few pastel or desaturated pieces could be found.
