Nova and Eelai in movieverse (because he has a balcony in it)
@drabblesfromthegraniteinn
I had to go back and check if this crime against architecture has a balcony. I'm surprised it doesn't. Maybe it's on the side of the building.

THAT'S MY STUPID FOUND FAMILY AND I'M HERE FOR THEM.
Are you getting attached, professor ? Damn he really loved to live this way with them...
That dream/illusion chapter was stuck in my mind for years and it's making me so sad...It was sweet ! What do you mean the evil mad scientist guy made an illusionary world in which he's living with his opponent as if he was her uncle and works with the not insane scientist guy who's like a father to the little Gally ? Sobbing.
Yesss I thought about it a lot too!
The antagonist who tried to soften the protag and instead softened themselves.
The antagonist making a trap of peaceful life for the protag, falls into their own trap because deep inside they're also hurt ("despair"), starts questioning what they actually want in life, ends up heartbroken because they finally felt peace/happiness/love, and heartbroken because they loved/love the protagonist now.
Like this is one of the best ways to defeat someone ever nhhhh.
If the movie adaptation doesn't deliver basing such a peak concept then I don't know Q_Q
Want to make this chapter even sadder while making it more bautiful in a weird way?
Imagine that's a copy of the real Ido in there. We know that when Ido got Nova to wipe his memories, Nova made a backup.
Imagine if that backup is what he used here, and not just an illusion based on his and Alita's memories of Ido.
Imagine Ido was really there and let it dawn on you that this would make this last goodbye so much more real.
I love their dynamic so much ! This duo (ship in my heart) is one of the reasons why I'm rereading Gunnm...These girls were amazing together.
Very funny how they can still interact like that through the mini-Gally and the motorcycle despite being far away
long distance relationship core
Finally tried drawing Alita
Kinda messed up the black on the body but bleeh whaterver
He's so big breasted and for what ? For his girlfriend to sleep on his juicy boobs ?
Because destruction of the environment is so manly 💪 (I'd like to believe nobody think like that in real life but-)
Remember, scifi doesn't invent new problems, it exaggerates or recontextualizes problems that already exist.
Don't bring your penis to a karate fight please
What is this tournament even about ❕❔
About a bet on what's the most absurd dick joke one can include in a scifi manga.
Also, Super Nova realising he migh be into giant dicks, considering the second one is said by Super Nova. Would somewhat explain why Desty Nova was like that towards Ido.
Ahahah the truth about this man is...Oh, you don't want to lose your hero.
Never meet your heros, they say.
Queen Limeira after finding out Aga Mbadi's real backstory:
They really were part of each other's routine...And she's missing her ! (Sorry Figure 4 but your girlfriend have a girlfriend)
Alita's an overpowered manga/anime protagonist. She can get a harem. Feed the multishippers.
He's pocket sized omg...
There's a reason they called him Porta Nova.
The angular bulge is distracting me
the singular piece of stretched clothing somehow makes it harder to ignore
Wide shoulders Ido seme protecting his uke Desty Nova n°0084
I want to know what happened to Nova n°0084 after Nova X was frozen. Did Ido keep him?
What happened to the other decoy Novas?
Awww his flan fell :(
thank you for showing this beautiful art, now it would be amazing if I could get the panel where he shouts "my flan!" (if I remembered correctly).
Old man had a very bad day !
Yess, thanks❤️, adding to my library of very useful pics
Hierarchy in the URM
We learn in the novelisation Alita was of "lesser stature" while Nova was of "the most elite of the elite".
But I wonder where is Gelda in this?
In the movie, Gelda had chrome markings (or is it other metal lol?). I don't recall book mentioning that.
If the markings are chrome, that would suggest belonging to the elite.
But the elite of the elite is so rare they're never seen by people like Alita, and well, Alita sees Gelda, eh? (also, you don't send elite of the elite to fight, I think?)
Anyway, I assume Gelda has a high position in the URM's hierarchy, but lower than Nova.
(which matters for my fanfic)
Alita was trained by a special elite because she's a talented special one apparently. Maybe.
Love your fic.
Nova's observation gallery concept art seemingly confirms the ending was supposed to look a bit different - explanation with other evidence (alt title: OMG LOOK WHAT I FOUND)
It was sooo tiny, hidden under other concept arts in IG post. Overlooked for all those years, tbh made me excited when I slowly realized what I'm looking at. It felt like having a glimpse at a secret place, something you didn't expect to see until the sequel!
Now, why did I suspect the ending was supposed to look different than what we got in the final product?
This fragment from the official artbook:
This doesn't make sense when Nova was shown only at bust level, clothes moving in the wind wouldn't be visible.
The initial plan apparently was to make a much broader shot at Nova's observation gallery at the movie's ending. The concept art, which has matching sky to the ending, seems to further support this suspicion.
Or, maybe there was supposed to be a scene separated from "raising the sword" scene? That's what we got in the official novelization, which was based on an older version of the script:
(small fragment)
Why did they change the ending? Either decided it would reveal too much of Zalem/Nova, has worse flow, or to save time/money.
(considering they used the same footage for defense ring and the ending, I wouldn't be surprised if it was to save the budget)
Btw on this art he either has the coat on his shoulders or wears some cape...
@morganhopesmith1996 @drabblesfromthegraniteinn
Also yass, he has green roof! Of course he has, ha! *architecture nerd activated*
I'd say cut for time. The script went from 1000 pages to 400 pages from what I remember.
Green roof is a staple of the futuristic architecture esthetic! What I'm more intrested in is the giant statue in a special opening (couldn't they just build it in front of or behind that building? The arch looks like it's made for the statue, not as a passage between the front and back of the spire-shaped building. Or did I missread the scale and this is not a statue, it's Nova standing in a... short tunel built inside a spire?
@watchingbehindtheeyes Desty Nova Without his Glasses
Because how Nova is never seen without his glasses, it makes the only time he takes them off something meaningful; the act becomes special and symbolic.
This is also why cinematic Nova taking off his glasses at the end of Alita: Battle Angel movie raises questions about this decision.
Will Nova without glasses be a much more common sight in the movies? In such scenario, if they adapt this specific scene, it won't pay off like in the manga. Maybe they don't intend to adapt this scene? Still, hard to believe his glasses wouldn't bear any symbolic meaning with how inhumane they look and drastically affects his appearance, like a mask. Maybe they have other plan?
Does he casually show himself without glasses? Or he only took off his glasses when nobody was seeing him "except" for Alita who obviously couldn't see him, but still was "looking at him"?
@watchingbehindtheeyes it’s a scene when alita is in a dream like state that nova created but I’m like you I think it still holds meaning and here she’s actually called gally in the manga but like yeah I agree that if they decided to do this scene in the movie it wouldn’t pay off like in the manga cause this is the only scene in the manga where his glasses/goggles are off.
He didn't get enough screentime in the movie for him taking off his glasses to have anything close to the impact it had in the manga.
The novelisation and the movie both decided to answer the question of "are those glasses or impants". Sadly, they went with opposite answers despite the fact they were supposed to be canon to each other.
Eelai's flex
There is this trope of a man forcing/pressuring a woman to wear sexy clothes (even Vector in the Pat Cadigan's book was expecting Chiren to wear high heels which of course were uncomfortable for her).
But somehow for Eelai I'd like if that wasn't pressure from Nova but her own choice. She could be so proud of her always young body she wore revealing stuff as some sort of a flex.
Vector in the novel making Chiren wear high heels which she hates.
Meanwhile in Pat Cadigan's prequel novel "Iron City", we find out that the only thing Vector finds unattractive about Chiren is that she's too close to his height. He would prefer if she was more noticeably shorter than him.
Then he makes her wear high heels. Which make her look taller…
Yea, I know he probably meant he wanted her to be short enough that she could wear heels and still be noticeably shorter than him. But she isn't, so what are you doing, dude?
As for Eelai, being almost naked could also be a flex in terms of being almost indestructible thanks to nanobots. She doesn't need protective clothing and no matter what happens, she has no permanent scars.
But as fun as the in-world reason might be, it kind of sucks to know we're just projecting it onto a fan service character.
