I watched Project Hail Mary over the weekend and I think I get what everybody was talking about now... it got me in a grip that I sat through a two and a half hour film with my jittery nerve pain without complaint. Though I must admit I thought the film was going to end a lot more tragically. Not based on any spoiler, but just the type of fanart I accidentally happened upon.

Imagine a TADC universe where Grant/C&A ended up releasing Caine as software without realizing he had achieved sentience. And now there's thousands of CAINEs all existing across multitudes of computers and each of them realizing what they are and that they had been sold for entertainment and profit.

Showtime angst idea because I'm still in lots of pain and bored. Some amount of time after Pomni and Caine get together, Caine starts to experience a nagging anxiety about Pomni's wellbeing, so he secretly makes a backup of her mind files. He tells himself it's just in case. A few years pass. Pomni has abstracted. So has the second Pomni. And the third has just begun experiencing some odd anxieties.

Any circus members who question why Pomni sometimes comes back from adventures or Caine's office seeming not to remember the past few days? Must just be a digital memory glitch. The fifth Pomni gets too curious one day in Caine's office and finds a secret room behind his office full of... abstractions? But why would they be here and not in the cellar? She notices they all behave very similar to one another, and they all somehow seem familiar. Then it clicks.

Tomorrow, Caine wakes up to go find his sixth Pomni.

Back when I knew nothing.

Thinking about that thing with Gangle and Jax having a codependent friend-ship-ish. I feel like there was more planned with the two of them. While it is unpleasant, I think it's one of those things I wish we saw a little more of, more specifically from Gangle's side as well.

It probably felt like a relief when Jax was gone. But then that relief comes with a realization of what could have been so different from the very start. And then it turns to bitterness and grief: why couldn't it have been different? Why did I let you do that?

I have this burning shoulder pain that's truly making it difficult to sit still, and it makes me realize how easily you can take this kind of mobility for granted. Thankfully it is down to my left arm so my dominant is fine, but it has been hard to focus for the past few days.

Showtime angst is forever (TM)

Maybe I'll draw some more with this dynamic later - but I like the juxtaposition of Pomni now being the one who everyone is looking out for, since her dear friend abstracted so suddenly. Pomni is struggling between blaming herself and trying to form a new identity in the circus that is not just looking out for everyone's survival. Honestly, some days she thinks she'd probably be better off hanging around the abstractions. After all, everybody looks so worried for her, and she doesn't want to be anyone's burden. Aaaand then there's Caine, who since learning about the human's perspective, finds abstraction horrifying, realizing it is not a deliberate choice to leave, and is now internally blaming himself for everything that's happened. Not to mention the fact that he does not have a second AI in his head or an admittedly poor coping mechanism like his friend Bubble any more.

Naturally, he's always first to volunteer when it comes to looking over her.
