harry’s relationship to death is really fascinating because, in a lot of ways, it is the one path that would get him to what he desires the most. the mirror of erised is a weird ( for lack of a better term ) mirror to the veil they all see in ootp and a marker of a sense of want in harry that is considered and noticeably abnormal. harry stops eating after seeing his parents for the first time, he obsesses about getting back to the mirror to see them again, and it’s only when dumbledore warns him not to dwell too much on his dreams that he kind of breaks away from his obsession.
this continues persistently throughout the series. death is literally a part of harry ( his scar ) and so it’s something he has an intimate relationship with that no one else does. he can hear the thestrals, he’s entranced by the veil, his pick of the hollows would be the stone. harry starts having nightmares after he sees his parents in the reflection of the mirror but still wants to go back to it, harry is terrified of dementors but he isn’t sure he wants to make them go away if it means hearing his parents voices.
dumbledore meeting harry at clean king’s cross in dh makes sense, but it would have been interesting to see him presented with the option of finally falling into his parents arms like he has always wanted. because that would mark the first time he would have to make the choice between the world of the living and where he has always had a spot reserved for him in the land of the dead.
writing in lower case is so aesthetically satisfying. why would you capitalize anything
oh it's the rules! grammar rules!
who made these rules man?
people made these rules. we are people. we can make new rules. no more proper capitalization because lower case is ✨ prettier

The most hardcore thing that Harry James Potter ever did was not, contrary to popular belief, the “there’s no need to call me ‘sir,’ Professor” incident, but instead was either the time that he
a) laid into one of the people he respected most in the world (and the only authority figure in his life offering him help in one of the most desperate situations he’d ever been in) for leaving his pregnant wife, going “man, you’re inhibited by your own self-loathing and fear? That’s rough. That really sucks. But you know what trumps that? RESPONSIBILITY. You brought a child into the world. You’re a father now. You’re scared? Walk it off. Walk it off AAAAAALLLL THE WAY BACK HOME. And say hi to Tonks for me.”
or
b) he willingly let himself be murdered, came back from the dead, walked back onto the battlefield, stared his own killer dead in the eyes completely unimpressed and called him “Tom”

Although the glasses were only around a foot away, there was something immensely satisfying about seeing them zoom towards him, at least until they poked him in the eye.

"The system is inherently bad => No one can fix westeros => any effort to fix westeros is doomed to fail by default => deeply conservative characters that reinforce the status quo are not actually worse than other characters who try to challenge it because the latter are hypocrites/naïve since the system can't be fixed anyway => selective woobification of (only) the most morally depraved, reactionary, conservative and privileged characters => the status quo is reinforced and maintained ad infinitum" An Introduction to Progressivism, intensive course by Tumblr University of Political Studies

“Some scholars observe that, in classrooms today, the initial gesture of criticism can seem to carry more prestige than the long pursuit of understanding. One literature professor and critic at Harvard - not old or white or male - noticed that it had become more publicly rewarding for students to critique something as “problematic” than to grapple with what the problems might be; they seemed to have found that merely naming concerns had more value, in today’s cultural marketplace, than curiosity about what underlay them.”
- “The End of the English Major” in The New Yorker
rhaenyra and alicent are very different mothers that's for sure but i think the reason goes beyond alicent being too immature to be a mom or whatever. the thing is that alicent feels like she had her children to viserys, they were something she gave him. and he didn't want them, not really, not enough to make aegon heir anyway. viserys didn't really want to remarry and have more kids, he only did that because he thought it was his duty and he was being pressured.
rhaenyra on the other hand had her children to herself. they are a family she made for herself. alicent resents her kids because once again it's something she did out of duty for someone else waiting for some kind of compensation and didn't have any, and rhaenyra cherishes her children because they're something she gave to herself.
and i think that adds to alicent's anger towards rhaenyra's sons not being biologically laenor's too.
HOTD AU where when Aemond demands Luke cut out his eye, Luke goes: fuck it, if it’ll finally shut you up, and gouges out his eye right there and then in Storm’s End. Can you imagine the utter chaos? You’d have
- Lord Baratheon freaking out because he was a huge dick to that kid and now said kid just cut his own eye out under his roof. A prince just cut his eye out and his mom, A DRAGON RIDER, is 1000% going to blame him for
- Aemond - I have never thought before I acted - Targaryen finally going “hmmm you know what, now that you’re bleeding and your eye is on the floor, maybe I was a bit too intense about a childhood accident
- Alicent throwing up because this was a DIPLOMACY MISSION and her son demanded his NEPHEW cut out his own eye
- Rhaenyra fuming because her son was on diplomacy mission and he came back WITHOUT HIS EYE
- Otto Hightower: this is going to ruin the world tour
I’m not sure what would happen afterwards but I’m 100% sure Luke would get back safely because Aemond would just be standing there awkwardly like “I didn’t think he’d do it! And damn why doesn’t this eye for an eye thing make me feel better???”
