I really dgaf about hotd, haven't even watched the second season, but it will forever be hilarious how all the asoiaf tumblr scholars/BNF continue to suck its dick sooo much while performatively trashing GoT

- brand new, show-only child bride arc for Alicent + a scene with child!Alicent being raped by Aerys

- foot fetish slash sexual harassment scene with Alicent that adds nothing to the plot whatsoever

- Daemon fantasising having sex with his own mother because reasons, again adding absolutely nothing to the plot

- Aemond kissing his own mother because reasons, again, adding nothing to the plot

- I saw in edits that someone tried to rape Alicent, again because reasons, I wonder what this one added to the plot

- I vaguely remember seeing Aemond's dick, somewhere? I'm sure this was absolutely vital to the plot

- Criston Cole eating Alicent out which was essential to the plot because reasons but I guess bonus points for consensual sex (!) for once (!)

Meanwhile 90% of sex scenes (most of them violent) involve Alicent ofc as the conventionally attractive male centered eye candy, since show!Rhaenyra just doesn't have the same appeal for the male audience does she? Despite the fact that book!Rhaenyra was the one who canonically had this tumultuous and extremely long and passionate affair with not one but two men and it's her sex scenes that an unbiased reader of the book would naturally expect to see, instead of pious puritan Alicent. But nope, we add just a touch of sapphic romance for woke points without actually exploring it, we remove all genuine passion and sensuality from adult!Rhaenyra's relationships with the men in her life, while saving all the rape/fetish eye candy for the most fappable female character.

Idk call me dumb but if Nolan's Odyssey was a movie capitalizing on a pivotal staple of culture, literature, ancient religion and history of literally any other country on the planet without having an ounce of representation of said country, it would have received Major backlash as cultural appropriation. But it's fine because it's Greece so who gaf and also they cast a black actress to play Helen so it's woke ig. And btw my problem is not the black actress. She is not less representative of Greeks than the white American Matt Damon. My problem is that an American Hollywood movie capitalizing on the history of my country is branded as "Woke Retelling" and is now part of American political debates under this banner, with libs defending it and conservatives condemning it, each for the very same reason, aka its wokeness. And don't get me wrong, casting a black actress for the role of Helen is indeed woke, I'm not even denying it. I'm just pointing out how a political debate about the necessity of "woke retellings" and "race representation" is purely and exclusively American/Anglosphere centered and has absolutely no relation whatsoever to the actual political dynamics at play between a hegemonic power and a dependent state such as Greece. And you'll say, what does that have to do with anything and why do I gaf, well I wouldn't really, except the Greek government gave Nolan approximately 7 million euros of Greek ppl's tax money so that Hailey from Upper West Side can argue that "the cast is representative of the world" and the movie "broadens participation in shared cultural stories" or whatever. Lmaoo yeah poor Rana actually. Mahidevran was kinda meh and projecting what she went through onto others which was annoying tho. She also treated Aybige like shit and Fatma. I can't remember much about how she treated anyone else beside Mihrunisa. She was ok to Mihrunisa but then again Mihrunisa wasn't a slave so it doesn't count!

Trutfully, all in all.. they both sucked🥸. Hürrem didn't really have time to develop deep relationships w her in laws cus she was busy trying to survive to make sure her dumbass children stay alive

Mahidevran I'd say had much more opportunities to be nice to them and develop relationships w them considering she was just sitting on her ass for multiple seasons in Sanjaks doing nothing anyway
