who here love karen so much
like for starters, outside ofĀ spongebob, sandy, and larry - who are kind and caring and beacons of goodness - karen is probably likeā¦ one of the more morally upstanding citizens in bikini bottom (without necessarily being a āgoodā person though) like, has she ever actively done anything wrong in her life? i canāt even name a single thing shes actively, intentionally, and of her free will, ever done wrong in any single episode of the cartoon, in either of the two movies, or any of the comics iāve read. weāre excluding the musical because as enjoyable as it is, itās basically a live action reenacted fanfiction.Ā
but as far as things actually created by those who worked on the actual cartoon and show? i dont think sheās ever actively done anything wrong
oh, she enables plankton upon occasion, sure. she might analyze information for him, she might help him with blueprints. but thats her job. and not even one she enjoys or cares for. i mean, all of his inventions and schemes inevitably fail - and its her job to make sure that they donāt. but most of the time she makes a half-hearted attempt or doesnāt even try. and has she ever actively gone out of her way to antagonize anyone, or otherwise act cruelly toward those who havenāt done something to deserve it within the context of her relationship or their interactions with her? does she actively go out of her way to go out and get the krabby patty secret formula in an unlawful manner? i canāt think of a time that she has! she bought plankton a krabby kids meal once but it was obtained lawfully from krabs himself, who knowingly gave it to her of his own free will, and the two were chatting amiably beforehand!Ā
and we know that she couldĀ steal the formula more efficiently than plankton can dream of, based on the comics and at least one episode. but she doesnt. she even recorded the creation of the formula, but simply chooses not to analyze the ingredients or otherwise provide plankton with the formula he craves. even though she already has it, even though she doesnāt care about his formula schemes and would be unaffected by the outcome. in fact, in frozen face-off she actively prevents him from getting the formula. so mostly shes an apathetic, uninvolved true neutral. but her heart tends to be in the right place.Ā
she may bitter and sarcastic towards most of the cast except sandy, including her own husband, but for the most part she tends to be chill and considerate towards others. shes also so goofy and fun-loving, with such a charming and quirky sense of humor - and affection for cute things and easily gets excited about those cute things! and frankly, all she wants is to be loved and given positive attention. whats not to love about her, honestly. her worst mistake? marrying plankton. but thatās not even completely on her since i recall that she mentioned in the first movie that she never actually agreed to getting married anyways, so who can blame her for that!
and imho thats like, the main appeal of her character. shes a computer, but sheās very much so a real woman with complex emotions and feelings ā¦ and sheās married to an evil engineer-scientist, but sheās not a bad personā¦ god i love her
