before computers, did public libraries have typewriters folks could come in and use?
Yes they did.
...to new.
What's interesting to me is the suggestion that being able to type was a common enough skill - or capability, anyway, speaking as someone who's hunt-and-pecked through a bunch of novels, short stories and screenplays - that these machines were worth installing.
(Ray Bradbury wrote the first draft of "Fahrenheit 451" on a coin-operated typewriter.)
For what it’s worth, the library I work at in 2025 still has a typewriter. They aren’t completely obsolete, just not as “useful” as a computer.

we’ve taken to calling whiskey red bull a “king haggard” and I really think this should take off. they’re king haggard because in the last unicorn king haggard is the one who owns the red bull and he’s nasty. just like the taste of whiskey with red bull. It’s a drink you have purely out of desperation to get drunk before the club. Kinda like how king haggard selfishly kidnaps the unicorns in a desperate attempt to find happiness. using the red bull.

Here’s a video so you can hear the water and the thrushes. I took it for you because you couldn’t be there. <3
Sharing this again for anyone who could use a few seconds of peace and light today for whatever reason.
