Not sure why it's a new trend among fic readers to assume if the fic has not been posted within the week it's inappropriate to comment on it, like the fic has to be hot out of the oven to give feedback for.

I got a comment on a fic that is less than a year old and it was mostly an apology for being a comment on an "old fic" and how late they were in commenting.

Just comment on the fic. Doesn't matter how old it is.

Really funny to consider how Marcus could even begin to explain their family situation. "Well my dad lost custody of his 4 other kids before I was even born... uh, yeah, I'm adopted. Kind of. It was more of an accidental pregnancy situation. Anyways he was like an internationally wanted criminal so I grew up on the run, sometimes my step-dad would be around but I hated him. When the cops raided our house back in 2013 I got shot and my dad ran away. Then my godmom took me in for a while. Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.
