i loooooove love love love lui logicing his way about lies being different from omissions of truth which are different from incorrect truths. Go my little pedantic researcher scholar boy with impressively solid ethics!!!

lui is sooooo fun as a character who came in 'late' to this show and shook things up by fitting right in. like he's got the smarts that norah does (albeit about different things) and the fascination with the occult that will does (albeit in a much more focused, almost abstract way—look at how he gets immediately sidetracked into the semantics of calling his grandma a zombie!) but it's of course his comparison to isaac that fascinates me most. they're both the oldest sibling but have deeply different relationships to their families, and they both have a close trust with will in particular as regards the planning for dealing with occult shit—but where lui calls out will's bad ideas and refuses to go along with them unless he's unexpectedly dragged into them, isaac will sometimes call out the bad idea and always go along with it anyways. they all feel like genuine friends but lui feels more like a partner-in-crime to will whereas will and isaac kind of have a tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum thing of bad ideas going on yk?

like overall, where i am in the show (about an hour and change into e1), lui is most similar to norah—known for being a sweet kid, kind of a dork/nerd, a good influence to some degree. it's just that he's not a top-of-her-class student like norah is and his area of expertise is much more esoteric. but the way he still manages to highlight and utterly recontextualize so much about will and isaac is really interesting!

i really love and appreciate lui because there were multiple moments in DisRes where i was like “okay i know it’s a CoC campaign but how the fuck have they survived the investigations they had before this” and then lui shows up in Empty Graves and i was like “ah. The voice of reason.”

i wonder if in that fuckass christmas episode the reason chip wasnt on a list is because there’s something big we dont know about him and not just cause he doesnt know the name he was born with, and thats why that one character said “theres more than just your name your missing and for that im so sorry for you”

something about the albatrio all having older sisters that they have lost at some point in their lives just really hits hard.

Jay and Ava dancing around their room, twirling in their ribbons and bows, pretending to play guitar and drums. Ava bandaging Jays knees after she falls. Jay hugging Ava after a rough day at school. The fights they get into yet always forgave because at the end of the day being together was more important then whose turn it was to take the laundry down. Then Ava died and suddenly all Jay wanted was someone to argue about the laundry with, someone to braid her hair and bandage her knees, someone to kiss her wounds and tell her it would be okay. She just wants one more hug.

Chip and Lizzie who are always bickering, Chip is the annoying little brother that steals her things and won’t leave her alone. Lizzie who didn’t want a brother, yet can’t help but love him. Chip and Lizzie who would play pranks on the other crew members to make them laugh, who would chase each other across the deck. Then they lost each other, swept away by the current, not knowing if the other had made it out. Finally reuniting in adulthood, but it’s not the same, they aren’t the same. There is a deep sadness in Lizzie’s eye despite her outward confidence and power, theres a tense line to Chip like he’ll snap at any minute. They don’t really know each other anymore but they’re trying to.

Gill and Eydn who probably weren’t as close as they could’ve been if Gill wasn’t the chosen one. Eydn who picked him back up after every difficult day of training, who taught him to be kind and to not let the pain be who he is. Gill who swore to protect his older sister, who went into exile knowing he’d never see her again but she would be safe from him. They should have been out playing in the streets of the undersea, should have been arguing over whose turn it was with a toy. Years later they finally meet again, but they are both so changed. Gill who has become his own person beyond the prophecy, who despite everything is still kind. Eydn who has hardened with age, fighting in a war she didn’t wage. There is this horrible feeling of knowing you don’t actually know your sibling at all anymore, and that you can’t tell if you can truly trust them anymore.
