For the record, “DON’T KILL HIM!” - Draco’s yell when Harry is being attacked, caps lock and all - is not the kind of thing an ordinary bully screams when someone they despise is in danger, it’s more like the kind of thing that … you know … a person in love screams when the object of their affections is in danger. That’s just a fact.

Also, this is the most upset we EVER see Draco get and the only time we see him completely lose control himself like this.

Seriously how insane is it that when they first meet, Draco immediately tries to befriend and impress Harry even though he does NOT recognize Harry at Madame Malkins.

The movies don’t include this crucial scene so it’s easy to forget this part and assume Draco only starts talking to him because he’s Harry Potter. But that is so completely wrong. And Harry’s simple clothing at the robe shop makes it obvious that he’s not some rich Sacred 28 child like Draco, and Draco has no way of even knowing Harry’s blood status at first. For all Draco knows at this point, Harry could be a lower-class Muggle-born, the antithesis of what Draco has been raised to want anything to do with.

Yet Draco still initiates a conversation and, with his flawed social skills, starts saying all the things he’s been raised to believe will impress a person and make a person like him. And the question of whether both of Harry’s parents were magical isn’t even the first thing he asks!

Whether he knew it or not, it was canonically love at first sight for 11-year-old Draco.

Yeah, although Draco may not know who Harry is he certainly knows so he isn’t because the children of the high status pure blood families would already be known to him. I’m not sure it was romantic love yet at that stage, but they were drawn to each other right from day one. they are soulmates your honor.

You ever think about the fact that Harry knows the names of all of Draco’s friends but knows nothing about Ginny’s friend group? Who in her year is she close to? Did she have trouble making friends due to the fact that she spent most of her first year getting possessed by a Horcrux while everyone else got to socialize? We don’t know because Harry never bothered to find out. We know all about Draco though - from his evolving friend group to what packages he gets from home and every detail of his physical appearance.

I keep thinking about the fact that hinny is kind of the opposite of drarry in the sense that Harry really shouldn't know that much about Draco but he does, while he should know a lot about Ginny but he doesn't.

Harry and Draco aren't friends and aren't even in the same House but Harry is so attuned to him that he remembers items Draco looked at in a shop more than 4 years previously, knows every detail of his appearance down to the exact shade of his eyes and skin, and can recognize him instantly just by the sound of his footsteps or a glimpse of him from far away. He also knows a lot about Draco's interests and beliefs and can usually tell his exact mood just by a look at his face.

Conversely, Harry and Ginny are in the same House and Harry has also spent every summer since second year living with her, plus holidays during 5th and 6th year. They also start dating in the end of sixth year. Despite this fact Harry has never even been in her room till 7th year and when he goes in, he shows no sign of recognition at the posters he sees there. You'd think, for example, that he would already know that she likes the Harpies and the Weird Sisters and thus think about how of course she has that in her room, or something. Who are her friends? Who knows? Certainly not Harry! What kind of wand does she have? Harry doesn't know. (Even though he does know both of these things about Draco). What does she want to do after graduating? How did she handle the trauma of what happened with Riddle in book 2? Does she have any insights from that that could be helpful? No idea. Harry's doesn't care and isn't interested in finding out.

Honestly, when he thinks of her it's mostly about her physical features. And even then, her eye color only gets mentioned once - in book 7, and we still don't get the specific shade. I'll buy that he feels lust for her. But love? Honestly I find myself once again thinking about the parallels between hinny and ron/lavender.

Also guess what the first thing Harry does after kissing Ginny, the alleged love of his life is? If you guessed "looks lovingly into her eyes" or "says something to her" you'd be wrong. Here's what goes down:

That's right guys, gals and nonbinary pals. He looks right over the top of Ginny's head (and isn't that a metaphor for their relationship right there - he's literally overlooking her to think about other stuff) to check in with Ron. His actual priority - the person whose opinion and regard he actually cares about.

Reasons Harry has to be scared of looking at Draco: He is in imminent danger of being recognized and brutally murdered by Voldemort along with his friends.

Reasons Draco has to be scared of looking at Harry: None. He has everything to gain and nothing to lose...except that he doesn't want Harry to be hurt.

Draco has the opportunity to regain everything his family has lost and secure his own standing among Voldemort's favored servants right in front of him. But he doesn't want it. And he's not just reluctant. He's terrified. As scared as Harry himself is. That's how much he doesn't want any part of this. That's how deeply the idea of Harry dying affects him.

Love how during the Sorting in book 4 Harry's laser focused on Draco as usually and is just sitting there...watching him clap like it's a super important activity that needs to be observed.

Harry please. He's just clapping. Why are you like this about someone you allegedly hate?

Can you imagine Harry carefully watching Zacharias Smith clapping or repeatedly describing how the sun gleams on his hair. No! Of course not. He doesn't like him. He doesn't want to pay attention to him or think about him unless they're forced to interact.

And here we come to what is, for me, perhaps one of the most interesting drarry moments in book 6.

Harry already suspects Draco of being a Death Eater. And what he just overheard Draco saying has further confirmed this. And Harry knows VERY well what the Death Eaters are capable of.

Harry's hiding in Draco's compartment specifically because he suspects him of being up to something nefarious, potentially involving a powerful and dangerous dark object of some kind.

And yet. He's not afraid of him. He never worries that he himself could be the target of Draco's plot or that he is in serious danger from him. Even when they are on opposite sides of a war Harry is still strangely comfortable around Draco despite having every reason not to be.

And incredibly. Harry's right. Draco does not even think of turning him over to Voldemort. Or seriously harming him. Yes. Breaking Harry's nose is certainly not nice. BUT.

Can you imagine what would have happened if any other Death Eater had Harry incapacitated and alone, entirely at their mercy, as Draco does moments later in this scene?

i will never not be feral about the fact that harry watches draco so much that we know almost as much about him as about harry himself. we know his fears and his background, the names of his family members and what kind of pet he has, his talents and his weaknesses, what he likes to eat and who his friends are, how he looks when he's angry and when he's afraid. we know more about draco than we do about characters harry is far friendlier with because harry can never look away from him.

The moment when Harry talks about Draco’s “light grey eyes” and “sleek blond hair” constantly but literally never mentions Ginny’s eye color and only mentions Ron’s once, in book 7, even tho they spend 7 years practically joined at the hip. Ok then.

Remember that time in Order of the Phoenix when Malfoy messed up his charms O.W.L. practical by accidentally smashing a wine glass bc Harry walked into the room and he got distracted by looking at him? The classic “gets distracted and breaks stuff bc their crush walked in” really happened. In canon. Seriously. Here’s the actual quote:

“Out of the corner of his eye, Harry distinctly saw Malfoy throw a scathing look over at him; the wine glass Malfoy had been levitating fell to the floor and smashed.” – Order of The Phoenix, Chapter 21

Literally, Harry gets called in for his practical, and his first priority is to look around and find Draco. Meanwhile, Draco, who is already in the middle of his exam not only notices that Harry has just come into the room, but get so distracted by him that he makes a rather spectacular mistake despite the fact that he must be quite good at Charms, given that he was able to repair the Vanishing Cabinet by himself in 6th year.

I have no words. Literally, most fanfics I read are way subtler than this lol.

Um. Excuse me? “The sunlight gleaming on his white-blond head” What? Who looks at someone they have no feelings of attraction for and casually notices the way their hair gleams in the sunlight??? It just doesn’t happen. Also “He caught Harry’s eye and smirked.” right after the line where Harry is essentially checking him out and looking at how pretty and shiny his hair is…
