Gotham Specific License - headcanon
I've read wayyy too many 'Jason learns how to drive from Dick' fanfictions and i love them- truly i do,, BUT i get taken out of the fic immediately bc I've headcanoned that Gotham drivers learn the same way most kids in Bangladesh/India/etc do
Which is just- we have our own rules. To drive in America you need one license, but if you wanna drive in Gotham? You need a Gotham-specific license because the rules of the road are so different. Which is why most Gothamites have 2 licenses and why it makes perfect sense to me that kids just know how to drive
Some of my favourite driving lessons from Bangladesh that I had to tame when I was getting my license include:
-beeping when you need to indicate
-beeping when you're thanking/cursing a fellow driver
-beeping when you need to stop or park somewhere
-beeping when you need a pedestrian to move
-just beeping in general and you can tell when someone 'beeps' affectionately or when they want to run you over
-speeding always, but being constantly vigilant because hitting the brakes was the first thing i learnt
-swerving between both lanes, especially when kids are in the back because it's like their own mini-roller-coaster moment
Anyway 2 licenses, and when any outsiders enter Gotham they have to retake their driving test. This also means that Damien is very much used to the roads when he first arrives. I like to imagine that he's the Batkid that likes to break into/sneak out using the batmobile (or any of Bruce's cars) when he gets a little homesick
