Iron Fist #1 (2022)
written by Alyssa Wong art by Michael Yg & Jay David Ramos
@drcgonunleashed asked for a starter from Jiyeon <3
The roar of the crowd was still fresh in her ears, even hours later. It never got old, not even after all this time. And Jiyeon had spent a majority of her life in the spotlight in one way or another. When she'd been a kpop star, there had been a sea of lightsticks to accompany the voices singing along, screaming, excited. Usually it was teenaged girls, plenty around her own age at the time. Funny how those young girls- children, really- in the crowd, had been standing there accompanied by parents or adult siblings when Jiyeon and her group mates had been touring Korea, Japan, even extending their reach into other parts of Asia, without ever having their parents present. Just a handful of older men to watch over them, an auntie stylist or two for the sake of their hair and makeup. Sometimes she missed the days of being a kpop idol, even with the horrible things that had accompanied it. Things that still made her skin crawl to think about. She'd basically be a child at the time. A child adultified to appeal to men way too old to be oggling them so.
But those years were long behind her, buried beneath the rubble of her former self. And she had found fame in a whole new light- with these girls, instead. Black Rapture was her home. Her coven. They understood her better than anyone else had, protected her better than anyone else had. And she loved this feeling of fame more than she'd ever loved her teen idol days. This time around, she was safe. And, being in a rock/metal band like this instead of the sickeningly sweet little pop industry that had cradled her before meant she had freedoms she never would have been afforded under the watchful eyes of female kpop idol standards. Of course, even in the US, even with a band like hers, tabloids and reactionaries were quick to shame women for sexual desires, for relationships that didn't fit their idea of perfect and proper. But there was still some wiggle room with it. And she and Lin Lie had been making the most of that small bit of space that allowed her the rare night of actual, blessed, freedom.
This was one of those nights.
Jiyeon was glad that the last stop of this tour (for now, at least) had landed them basically at their own doorsteps in California. It meant that when they were done for the night, when the crowd had died down and their drinking and laughter and celebration were over, she could go home and freshen up in her own shower, on her own time. It also meant that she could use the next few weeks of their small break to do as she wanted. And right now, what she wanted, was not to stay home and sleep in her own bed. Not yet, at least. Instead, she got dressed again. Slinky little red dress with some very intentionally chosen lingerie hidden beneath. She put on her leather jacket and her black, heeled, boots, did her makeup to top it all of... then, with a snap of her fingers, she teleported herself as near to Lin Lie's place as she could without calling attention to herself (after all, she didn't want to appear out of nowhere in front of someone and scare them half to death).
It wasn't a far walk to reach his place from where she had shown up, and she was glad for the cool, night, breeze that tossled her long hair, kissed at her warm face. She was just a little drunk- not enough to be obvious, but certainly enough that her restraint was low enough to be doing this. She doubted he would mind. She also very much doubted he would mind her just showing up like this- though she did hope he was home. Superhero business could have found him elsewhere and then this would have been nothing more than a short little waste of her time... In hindsight, she should have texted him first. Oh well, it was too late to bother with that, now. Besides, if he was home, wouldn't the surprise be all the more sweet?
When she made it to his door, she knocked. Three slow, but loud, rappings against it. Then she waited. Jiyeon figured if he didn't answer in a minute or so, she'd knock again, give him another minute, then text him to see if he was home. If it turned out he wasn't... well, then she supposed she would be sleeping in her own bed tonight. A shame, really, but not the end of the world. They could find time to spend together later if it came to that.
Becoming the Iron Fist after his supposed "death" had rendered Lin Lie to a completely different kind of lifestyle prior to the one that he'd lived before. Becoming the Sword Master and working for the Agents of Atlas was never something he'd envisioned being on his vision board as a teenager, yet here he was aged 23 and only becoming that much stronger of a superhero, being part of a team that was sanctioned by the one and only Jimmy Woo, and being teamed with teammates who'd become longtime important figures of his life in the future. White Fox, Luna Snow, Shang-Chi, and so many others were a part of something special. Hell, they still were in some aspects, but a lot of them had gone on to do completely different things, even if they were still close. White Fox was now leading Tiger Division as the director in South Korea, but they still met up often whenever they could. Luna Snow continued on with her K-Pop idol sensation tour, somehow becoming an even bigger idol in the process. Shang-Chi was now the leader of the Five Weapons Society, taking over a poisoned legacy that his father left behind, and embracing a new direction for his family's future in the world of superheroing and espionage. Was it safe to say that Lie was starting to feel left behind? After sacrificing his life to save White Fox from a rogue Sumjoku, he'd woken up on the shores of K'un-Lun half dead, and barely breathing. Had it not been for the blessing of Shou-Lao the Undying's chi energy, he wouldn't even be here right now. Carrying on the mantle of the legacy of the Iron Fist? That was already enough pressure to last a lifetime, but to follow in the footsteps of the most honorable Iron Fist to date in Danny Rand? That pressure took a toll more than anyone could imagine.
Still, Lin Lie did everything in his power to embrace his newfound role and power, fighting bad guys all over the world from Davos, to the Hand, to even some of Atlas' old foes they'd crossed paths with in the past. He was also tasked with the responsibility of keeping K'un-Lun safe from any sort of enemies or interlopers who would seek to attack this sacred city and take everything from it. All of these responsibilities left little time for Lin Lie to relax and actually enjoy himself, so when that time off presented itself, he reluctantly took it. Taking up part-time residency in California at his Uncle Fooh's place (a disgraced inventor who'd been cast out of the Heavenly Cities for reasons unknown to Lie), it was nice to have a place over here that he could at least partly call his own. Stepping out of the shower, Lie cleanly wrapped a towel around his waist and stared at himself in the mirror, allowing those thoughts to drift through his head. The constant throbbing in his own hands from the shards of the family sword Fu XI were completely embedded within the skin of his forearms and hands, and fighting that pain was an everyday struggle for the young martial artist. You can do this, Lie. Just take some time to actually relax and enjoy yourself for a bit. You're too young to be stressing yourself out like this, he tried to calm himself. While lost in a well of his own thoughts, there was a loud knock and a doorbell that sounded, interrupting Lie's thoughts and putting him on slight alert. Who the hell was interrupting him on a Friday night like this? HIs uncle was out for the weekend, so surely he hadn't come back forgetting his keys already, right? Looking at the security camera through his doorbell app, Lie's eyes widened at who'd actually made an appearance: Jiyeon??
Without thinking, he quickly slipped on some bottoms and dark gray sweatpants, rushing over to the living room all the while brushing the loose water from the tips of his hair to the skin of his shoulders. Talk about getting ready for something on such short notice. After taking a deep breath and muttering something to himself in Mandarin, Lie opened the door to a wide eyed Jiyeon. "Jiyeon! Didn't know you were coming over! I saw your band was in town. Sorry I couldn't make the trip on such short notice. Had some trouble all the way up in Seattle that I needed to take care of, and it just--yeah..." he stammered a bit, clearing his throat before stepping inside. "Come inside. Don't want you standing outside after you came out of your way to see me during a busy tour, and I can't believe that you're actually here. I'm actually...really happy that you're here, Jiyeon." He welcomed her in quickly, closing the door behind her just to ensure TMZ wasn't out there filming or watching them. "Uh, can I get you anything? A drink? A decent meal? A good time?" he joked, hoping that wasn't too out of line given their last time they'd hung out together.

APT with Luna Snow and Iron Fist ! 🐉❄️🩷
The door flings open, and in its threshold, it is not Luna Snow who appears. Here, without the costume, without the glamour, without the make up, without the glitter, stands Han Seol Hee. Her hair is slightly disheveled, her hat removed with exhausted limbs--the exhaustion of rehearsal, her popstar activities and superhero activities with Tiger Division all now coming down to a fatigue she recognizes but still refuses to name aloud. She knows it is only Lin Lie here, and yet, still she fakes a smile when her gaze lands on him. It is not that she does not trust him-- she has given him her heart since his return, though a new relationship to add to the things she has to manage and juggle only adds pressure she is uncertain she can endure.
"Oh, you're here." Her smile does not reach upto her eyes. For a moment, her mind fogs a little, but her attention returns. "Huh? Yeah."
She isn't.
The words that stumbled from her lips were her own, but the attitude and demeanor certainly weren't. Normally, Seol Hee was one to have so much natural energy and positive optimism, and when they operated as a team, she was always the team's voice of reason whenever it came to controversial operations where decisions had to be made. Maybe if they were younger, Lie wouldn't have picked up on the small key details like this when something was wrong with his girlfriend, but seeing the bags underneath her eyes as well as her tired tone...it worried him a little. "Are you sure you're okay? You look extremely fatigued. Probably a long day at the studio or at the Tiger Division conference room, right?" he gave a nervous chuckle, wanting to make sure he didn't upset her or step on any emotional field mines that might upset her.
"I'm sorry if you had a rough day Seol. I wish I could've been there for you to help balance things out, but if it helps, I managed to run out to the convenience store and grabbed some ingredients to make us a homemade meal. Made some fermented kimchi stew and Korean fried chicken if it helps you feel better," Lie tried to make her feel better, bringing the singer into his arms for an extended embrace, hoping his warmth would turn the lights back on for her within her soul.
