Shout out to all your internet friends who are gone.

Those messenger screen names that haven’t logged on in ages, some before detailed profiles were a thing on those services.

Those emails that are long since abandoned, some with domains that no longer exist.

Those online friends you knew years ago and who then helped shaped you in some way, who you just can’t FIND anymore.

Those people who once were, and hopefully still exist IRL, that seem to have no known internet life anymore.

And those who have actually passed on, and their online lives are now a memorial to them.

I miss you all. I hope life is/was kind to you, and maybe one day, we’ll somehow connect again.

"Stranger danger" is just an absolute fallacy and it has destroyed American citizens abililty to form communities based on trust.

you are so much more likely to be hurt by someone you know and trust than a stranger. Strangers are, in fact, simply humans you don't know yet, and humans are actually mostly good in spite of what your trauma thinking has told you.

like, for instance. Poisoned/dangerous halloween candy is a significant cultural fear. Those of us who participated in Halloween as kids likely all have memories of parents inspecting candy before we could eat it. But the truth his, the incident causing this panic was a father killing his children for life insurance money. They were hurt by someone they trusted. Someone they loved. But that event has been twisted into "stranger danger!!" Even though no strangers were involved, and now you have generations of people paranoid about candy when theres no reason to be besides misapplied trauma-based reasoning.

The amount of people who actively want to hurt others is signficiantly smaller than you have been led to believe, and its also not something you can always predict or be prepared for. They make you love them before they hurt you.

The Outbursts of Everett True was a comic strip that ran in papers from 1905 to 1927, wherein the aforementioned Everett True regularly beat the everliving shit out of rude people as a warning to anyone else who might consider being rude. Men have not only been taking up too much room on public transport for about as long as public transport has existed, but the people around them have been irritated about it for at least a hundred years. The next time someone tries to claim that manspreading is a false phenomenon, please direct them to this strip so that Everett True can correct their misconceptions with an umbrella upside the head.

I’m very lucky to own a book that’s a collection of most of these comics (sadly not all of them) and would highly recommend hunting these down if you can. Sorry for the lack of a scanner but phone photos will just have to do.

He was a enjoyable cuss who didn’t care for war mongering.

He certainly didn’t like selfish husbands and fathers!

Politicians who turned on their words once they got theirs weren’t safe.
