This one really hurts. Anthony Head had that rare kind of presence that made a character feel warm, sharp, funny, and quietly heartbreaking all at once.
Giles will always be special to so many of us.
Rest in peace, Anthony Head đ¤
If you havenât checked out either Widowâs Bay or the Boroughs yet, do yourself a favour and get into them this weekend. Widowâs Bay has eight episodes out of ten currently released, and the Boroughs you can binge watch the entire season (also 8 episodes). Both of these shows make me feel like Iâm back in the 90âs, watching tv on free-to-air with ads. It makes me feel like thereâs still a chance of enjoying tv or movies that have that lost quality, that freshness of having pure entertainment value, and soul. The payoff of the small details and actually having to pay attention to the plot to fully enjoy the story. Thatâs something Iâve really missed. Tv that requires a little concentration, with memorable characters and a healthy dose of fun. Donât miss these! PS. I love Patricia!
Widowâs Bay is one of those shows that somehow seems to be flying under the radar, which is honestly a little rude.
Because this thing is fun.
Not in a loud, desperate âplease notice how quirky we areâ way. More in a foggy little coastal-nightmare way, where old island lore, cursed town history, haunted inns, sea hags, suspicious fog, and deeply strange local government all somehow belong in the same sentence.
And the weird part is: it works.
The show manages to be funny without turning the horror into a joke. It does not feel like a spoof. It feels like a genuinely spooky story that happens to be full of people saying completely unhinged things with total administrative confidence.
That might be my favorite part.
Matthew Rhys is fantastic as Tom Loftis, a skeptical mayor trying very hard to stay rational while the island keeps politely destroying his worldview. He has this exhausted, irritated, âI cannot believe this is my jobâ energy that fits the whole thing perfectly.
And then there is the town itself.
The city hall weirdos.
The local legends.
The suspicious events.
The tiny background details.
The kind of signs, headlines, maps, and odd little visual jokes that make you pause and zoom in like a perfectly normal person who definitely has other hobbies.
It has a bit of Jaws.
A bit of Midnight Mass.
A bit of Twin Peaks.
A bit of Stephen King weirdness in a damp sweater.
But it also has its own thing going on: cozy coastal horror mixed with dry comedy and small-town paranoia.
It is strange.
It is spooky.
It is oddly funny.
And it is way more entertaining than people seem to realize.
So yes, Widowâs Bay deserves more love.
Preferably before the island wakes up and takes the lack of attention personally.
I know the writer/creator of widows bay is on tumblr and its so funny that they saw everyone enthusiastically going "we like our men wet and pathetic (and psychologically and literally tortured)" and went

I can't believe this entore site is not talking about Widow's Bay. Nautical folk horror, it's stephen king it's midnight mass it's also somehow an office comedy. Stephen Root is there. What more could you want?
don't worry about me when I say this but I think in a way being hunted for sport would be a relief. my nervous system would be like, wow. finally, a proportional reaction
