Started training an emergency stop with pixie and omg she loves it so much. Real win for this singular facebook reel I only partially watched without sound
Okay hello I am back with a really terrible diagram I drew at work on my smoko break
You will need: a wall, treats that can be thrown, a willing dog participant
Step 1:
With your dog facing you and their back to the wall, toss a treat over their shoulder to the wall. If your dog is not used to treat tosses make sure they see where it is going
Step 2:
Let your dog go get the treat!
Step three:
When your dog turns around, but before they have started running to you, mark and reward by tossing another treat.
Step four:
Rinse and repeat this until your dog understands the game
Step five:
When your dog is turning back to you ready for another treat, change to hold your hand up in the stop✋🏼 position with a treat in your fingers. Throw it behind them as before.
Step six:
Rinse and repeat this until they are connecting the raised hand with stopping and getting ready to turn back to the wall to chase the treat.
Then you can:
- add in your ‘Stop!’ cue
- move away from the wall to an open area
- add in more treat-chasing distance
- mix in a few recalls
- distractions etc
Have fun!

They just don’t release the hounds like they used to
Friend in an alleyway | my wife sent me this photo the other day and said "you HAVE to draw this." and I agreed completely <:
oops I was told you can only see the photo if you have a bsky account, so here's a screenshot of it!
something I’ve noticed about Kep, which surprised me bc I always thought it was instinctual, is that he does not know how to dig. never has. he will paw at his bed or the floor when he’s getting ready to sleep, but only ever with one leg at a time. I have never seen him do the left-right-left-right alternating standard digging motion. it’s always left-left-left-left and sometimes he’ll switch to right-right-right-right but never does he alternate feet. it’s also only with bedding, never in the yard. Stellina has always liked to dig ever since she was a puppy (mostly in water but she also has a nice little scrape under my lilac bush she naps in) and Boone was a big digger who made several upsettingly large holes in my yard. I feel like Kep would love digging based on his general penchant for destruction, so maybe it’s a good thing he’s never figured it out.
i really really like this post
does your dog know how to dig?
ohhh yeah
yes but they are nonpracticing
no. my dog is innocent.
bed bug
[ID: a small tricolor corgi is laying half underneath a cot-style dog bed outside munching on the grass]
The most succulent grass grows under the dog bed of course
I...
I don't know whether I should be proud or concerned - probably both - but apparently Nova has been trying the doorknob.
It opens in, so it will be pretty hard for her to get outside even if she was successful at unlatching it.
She did flip the lock though
