10 years since I have known peace…

He had an extremely broken leg (back left) in this pic, not that you could tell with how active he was. He’d just been dropped off at the vet clinic I shadowed at by people who noticed him dragging his leg, but didn’t own him and didn’t want to pay for him. Nothing seemed to phase him. He was immediately ready to wrestle and play and yell to be let out of this cage!!

Another little kitten, this one missing part of her front leg, had been brought in the same week. Nobody needs more cats in the poor rural Midwest US. The vet ended up taking her home, and I ended up taking Uly.

He’s been with me for every step of independence I’ve taken since then: living off campus, graduating, living alone, moving 2000 miles from home… I can’t put into words how much this strange little beast who lives in my home helped me become more confident out in the world. I’ve always been prone to worrying, but Uly doesn’t give a fuck about anything. Inspirational!

I think a pet deposit is stupid but at least its a stupid I can understand you know. like sure a pet could cause more damage so extra "in case of damage" money is owed. whatever. at least I have a chance of getting it back. but pet rent is bonkers crazy. like no the amount of rent thats due is what the rent is. my cat isn't like raising property tax. normal rent isn't even calculated by number of people living in the house. you can't raise the rent when an extra person moves in. what. Vida had her MRI today at Kansas State University because they rearranged their schedule to get her MRI done today instead of the consult today and the MRI tomorrow to reduce her stress since she doesn't like the vet. Unfortunately, it was not good news. Vida has a 12mm x 14.3mm x 13.3mm meningioma (cancerous tumor) on her olfactory nerve pressing into her brain. The vet said it is a very slow growing type of cancer and that it wouldn't likely grow large enough to kill her before old age does, and the only thing it causes is seizures which can usually be controlled with medication, so we can treat the symptoms and ignore it, or I can talk to CSU about doing radiation or surgery. He said the big downside of the type of radiation that she'd need is that it can cause death and damage of healthy brain tissue, which can cause rapid neurological degeneration, so he doesn't necessarily think it's the best call, but since he's not an oncologist he can't make that recommendation and I need to talk to CSU.
