@ivakir liked for a starter!
He climbed up to see the stars, weaving through the branches of a gnarled and ferocious tree. Flat on the forest floor, there was nothing but a deep dark. The plants had grown fast into one another. Furling inwards like a roof made of nettles and moss. So the creature clawed up the old, blackened bark. Leaving white strokes where his nails grazed.
Finally, emerging from the treeline, he breathed. The wind had picked up, yet it barely stirred the shapes around him. If not for a vague rustle at the edge of his vision, he would’ve thought these trees were made of stone. There, above everything, he began to make out smells. Animal and vegetable, then something entirely different.
Cassius recognized the scent as something charred, like meat left too long over a pit. He sniffed the air once, before noticing subtle wafts of smoke needling through the branches and leaves. Food. The creature liked food. Salivating, he followed the thread of smoke and dove back into the fray.
Food!
