During A Lunar Eclipse
The total lunar eclipse on the night of March 13-14, 2025, will be visible across the Midwest. During totality (1:26 AM - 2:31 AM), the Moon will take on a reddish hue due to Earth's atmosphere filtering sunlight.
Lunar eclipses are powerful celestial events that carry deep spiritual and magickal significance. They represent a time of transformation, endings, revelations, and deep shadow work. This guide explores the mystical potential of lunar eclipse magick, including its meanings, best practices, spells, and rituals.
Understanding the Magick of a Lunar Eclipse
Astrological and Energetic Influence
• A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow over the Moon. This symbolizes the veiling of emotions (the Moon) by external forces (the Earth) and the light of consciousness (the Sun).
• Eclipses are seen as moments of fate, bringing hidden truths to the surface.
• They mark a time of release, transformation, and karmic cycles closing.
• The astrological sign in which the eclipse occurs influences the type of energy being released.
Why is Lunar Eclipse Magick Different?
• Unlike regular full moons, lunar eclipses are highly unstable energetically, making them unsuitable for typical full moon rituals (such as manifestation and charging tools).
• Instead, they are ideal for banishing, shadow work, endings, spiritual transformation, and ancestral work.
• Eclipses accelerate spiritual evolution, so spells and intentions cast during this time may have rapid and intense results.
Preparing for Lunar Eclipse Magick
Set Your Intentions Wisely
Since the energies of a lunar eclipse can be unpredictable, take time to reflect on what you truly need to release or transform. Ask yourself:
• What patterns or emotional wounds am I ready to face?
• What cycles in my life are ending?
• What do I need to purge to make space for new growth?
Create a Sacred Space
• Cleanse your space with smoke (sage, palo santo, mugwort) or sound (bells, singing bowls).
• Dim the lights or use candles to reflect the shadowy energy of the eclipse.
• Set up an altar with items related to the Moon (silver objects, lunar crystals like moonstone and selenite, bowls of water).
• If working with deities, ancestors, or spirits, invite them with offerings (wine, honey, incense, or symbolic items).
Ground and Protect Yourself
• Meditate for a few minutes to center yourself.
• Visualize a protective shield of light surrounding you.
• Carry or place grounding crystals like black tourmaline, obsidian, or hematite nearby.
Lunar Eclipse Rituals and Spells
Shadow Work Ritual (Best for Inner Healing & Self-Discovery)
Needed:
• A journal or piece of paper
• A black candle
• A mirror
Instructions:
Light the black candle and sit in front of the mirror. Gaze into your own eyes, asking: What truths do I need to face? What parts of myself have I been avoiding? Write down the thoughts and emotions that arise. After journaling, say,
"Under the shadowed Moon, I embrace my hidden self. May I heal, grow, and transform."
Blow out the candle, thanking the eclipse energy for its lessons.
Banishing and Cord-Cutting Spell (Best for Letting Go & Breaking Attachments)
Needed:
• A piece of paper
• A black string or cord
• A candle (black or white)
• A bowl of saltwater
Instructions:
Write down what you want to release (a habit, fear, toxic relationship). Tie the black string around the paper, symbolizing your attachment. Light the candle and say,
"By the power of this eclipse, I release what no longer serves me. The past is gone, the future is mine."
Cut the string with scissors or burn the paper, then drop it into the bowl of saltwater. Dispose of the remnants outside to finalize the release.
Ancestral Connection & Divination (Best for Seeking Guidance & Wisdom)
Needed:
• A photo or object of an ancestor/spirit guide
• A candle (blue or white)
• Tarot or oracle cards
• Mugwort or rosemary incense
Instructions:
Light the candle and incense, inviting your ancestors to join. Meditate, focusing on their presence, and ask for guidance. Shuffle and draw tarot/oracle cards with the question: 'What message do my ancestors have for me?' Record any insights, dreams, or emotions that come through. Thank your ancestors, leaving an offering if desired.
Moon Water for Releasing (Best for Cleansing & Emotional Healing)
Unlike regular full moon water, eclipse-charged water is best used for cleansing rather than charging magical tools.
Instructions:
Place a bowl or jar of water outside during the lunar eclipse. Whisper into the water,
"Absorb the power of transformation, cleanse all that is old."
Use this water later for ritual baths, washing hands after shadow work, or sprinkling around your space for energetic cleansing.
What NOT to Do During a Lunar Eclipse
• Avoid manifestation or charging crystals. The chaotic energy can create unintended effects.
• Do not perform love spells or attraction rituals. Eclipse energy is about endings, not beginnings.
• Refrain from making drastic life decisions. Emotions run high, and things might appear differently after the eclipse.
• Don’t ignore your emotions. If deep feelings arise, acknowledge and process them rather than suppressing them.
Post-Eclipse Integration & Grounding
After the eclipse, you may feel drained or overwhelmed. Here’s how to rebalance:
• Take a Ritual Bath: Use Epsom salts, lavender, or rosemary to cleanse residual energies.
• Journal Your Experience: Write down any emotions, visions, or messages you received.
• Eat Grounding Foods: Root vegetables, herbal teas, and nuts help stabilize your energy.
• Spend Time in Nature: Walking barefoot on grass or meditating outside aids in grounding.
• Rest and Reflect: Eclipse energy lingers for a few days, so give yourself time to process.
Lunar eclipses are portals of deep transformation, offering opportunities for profound inner work. By approaching them with respect, intention, and awareness, you can harness their power for spiritual evolution, healing, and release.
My favorite simple wards to guard the home
Hanging rosemary above the doorstep, and/or above doors of the house for protection.
Sprinkling a line of dried red pepper on a windowsill, to counter a curse.
Placing a mix of dried & ground eggshells and black pepper in every corner of a room to keep out unwanted spirits.
Placing a decoration representing a witch in the kitchen, to keep away illness and to favor health.
Crafting an effigie (no matter how crude!) and make it into the guardian of your home by charging it with your intent of protection and placing it near the front door.
Crafting small witch ladders to hang around the house.
I especially love #4 because I literally went down a lil rabbit hole looking up how to make a kitchen witch last night 💜

Solitary Ritual
Sweetening Jar
Candle spell
Honey jar
Sugar spell

Head working
Different methods have different time scales, and they have different desired outcomes.
Example spells
Spell Jar:
You want a small jar, with a cork lid or a screw top, doesn't matter. You're going to seal it with wax later. You can easily get one at your local dollar store. Then you're going to want to pick your incense for cleansing your items. Set your intention, ground and center. Then you're going to want to add your salt, one that corresponds with what you're trying to achieve, along with herbs, and crystals, powders, flower petals, and maybe add a petition if you choose. Then end with a sigil of your intention on the top. Light your candle with the color that corresponds to your intention and let it run down sealing your jar.
Sweetening jar:
Same as the Jar spell. You want to write a petition, so you need to know what kind of paper you're going to use or what type of ink you're going to write with. Then what kind of sweetening agent? Sugar? Syrup? Honey?
Head working spell:
In this case you want to do the same thing as a Jar spell, except you want to use a skull candle, again color is based on your intention. Place it on a fire proof surface. Then add a petition and taglocks, along with your herbs and oils or powders (make sure they're safe as the skull candle burns down).
Time of spell:
Now when do you want to do your spell? Is there a specific time you want to do the working? Morning, afternoon, night? A specific moon phase? A New moon, a full moon, the waxing, the waning or the dark moon? Maybe a particular day? What time best corresponds with your spell? You want whatever help you can get for your spell to work.
Deities or Spirits: (optional)
What about Deities, spirits, ancestors, beings or the fae? If you want to work with the fae, you would want to give regular offerings for a few months before you can do that working. If you'd rather work with your ancestors, then you'd want to create an ancestor altar, leaving out offerings for them and changing their water every Sunday. If you want to work with a spirit or deity, you must first form a connection with them and have things prepared to leave an offering. It's very important to have a suitable connection as well as leaving suitable offerings in order for your working to be accepted and manifest.
Words:
Do you want to write something on a petition? Do you want to say a chant, something that is repeated over and over as a way to raise energy? Do you want to write a petition to a particular Deity, or spirit? Overall your intention and energy is the most important thing, and that is enough for the spirits and ancestors to hear you.
Spell to attract good vibes
⛤Hello fellow crafters! ⛤
If you feel down, this spell will help you increase your personal battery, in order to stay focused on your important tasks.
You can do this spell whenever you need it.
It will take you about 20 min, in front of an altar, or a clean surface.
⛤What you will need :
Paper and pen
A pair of scissors
A bowl
A candle (white one preferably).
Ginger (dry ginger works too)
Cinnamon
Little glass bottle or jar
The first step is, as usual, to cleanse your altar or the place you will do the spell. Then :
On the paper, write all the tasks you need to accomplish.
Then close your eyes and focus on the link between these tasks and your energy. What will it bring you once done? Motivation? Fullfilment? A feeling of accomplishment? Focus on everything like this.
Then cut your paper in little pieces and put them in the bowl.
Add the ginger and the cinnamon in the bowl while chanting 3 times :
"Spices, reinforce and give powers to my wishes."
Light the candle and continue focusing on the bowl and say :
"Energies, reinforce yourself until the light goes down".
Then continue to focus and meditate on these tasks. When you feel recharged, put away the fire (DO NOT BLOW ON IT).
Finally, put the bowl mixture in the bottle or jar.
When you need this reinforcement in your energy, don't hesitate to open the jar and inhale what's inside.
Witchfully Yours,
⛤Isidora⛤

Tea Spell of Acception
What will be will be, and I will accept what won’t, if it can be changed, I will choose the option that speaks to me most, if I don’t know the answer, I will learn to reach out to a friend, and if I don’t know what’s next, that’s fine, I will find out in the end
☽✩☾
Teas that Work Well With This Spell
✩ Black: for blocking negativity and bringing in positive energy ✩ Chamomile: for healing ✩ Elderflower: for bringing in blessings and healing ✩ Fennel: for healing, protection, and purification ✩ Green: for cleansing, bringing in positive energy, and healing ✩ Lemon Balm: for self love and success ✩ Matcha: for detoxification of negative energy ✩ Nettle: for protection and repelling negative energy ✩ Peppermint: for clarity ✩ White: for anti-anxiety and purification
Prepare your tea according to the steep time of the tea you decide to use.
Stir in honey to sweeten a situation and stir clockwise to bring in positive thoughts and acceptance. While stirring repeat the spell either out loud or even inside your head if you cannot say it out loud.
Enjoy your tea and accept the positive feelings you gain from it and the positive thoughts and experiences you will gain throughout the day.
This tea spell can also be done at the end of the day to accept what has occurred throughout the day. Simply spend the time while drinking it to consider what has occurred and think about what you appreciate has happened to you today. If even one thing has occurred that you appreciate and can accept then some good has come to you.
These are not mine, nor am I claiming them to be. The information here is good & I needed a place to save it for when I can incorporate it into my home.
Nordic Water Magic💧🌿
This is a very general starter post for making your own charged water or using it for spells! It is entirely an Norse based post but you don’t have to be a Norse pagan to use the info! All plants listed are native to Scandinavian countries and some herbs/crystals are tied to the mythology of the Norse. Please keep in mind these are my own personal, modern correspondences because there’s not a lot of surviving pre-Christian text on seiðr and galðr.
🌿Herbs🌿 You can use herbs(or their essential oils) to make your own cleansing water spray, altar offerings, or to charging water with a specific intent. The listed herbs are not meant for ingesting but rather for aromatherapy, varying spells, or making charged water for deity/spirit offerings.
Birch - Birch is sacred in Norse mythology, up to the point where it has it’s own rune Berkanan(ᛒ). It is tied to the hearth deity Frigg, who better to work with when wanting to do ritual cleansing of the home? Birch is associated with healing depression and anxiety, renewal, growth, cleansing, and invoking the divine.
Spruce - The Norway Spruce is one of the most commonly found trees in Norway and Sweden, and still seen as sacred today. Fun fact: Old Tjikko is the oldest (clonal)tree in the world which gives spruce it’s association with ancient wisdom. It is also associated with healing, connecting the mind and heart, protection, purification, and spiritual refreshment.
Oak - Not only is Oak tied to the protection deity Þórr(Thor) but it was actually the wood used on the highest-ranking viking ships and has long been associated with victory and protection do to this. It’s also good for charging water or oils with prosperity, enhanced manifestation and divination, strength, and mental + emotional healing.
Hazel - .It was commonly used in making arrows(as well as the tree Holly). It’s associated with wisdom, magic, protection(another tree associated with Þórr) and communication.
Calendula - Not to be confused with it’s Mexican sister Marigold(which is not native to Europe). Both physically + metaphysically Calendula can be used to detoxify and cleanse. It can also be used in seiðr for happiness, beauty, good health, physically healing, and releasing depression. It’s also often associated with the Vanir deity Freyja.
Cranberry - A common plant found throughout the lands, is still used in modern times to celebrate Jól. It is often associated with welcoming positive energy into the home, emotional healing, protection(another Þórr one), and invoking courage.
Chamomile - This is another plant associated with the deity Frigg. It can be used to help bring peace and harmony into the home, healing, protection, and purification of negativity.
Primrose - Primrose can be used to help one acknowledge their own feelings and flaws, healing grief and heartache, inspire hope, and transmute negative energies(this last meaning is mostly based on my personal work with Sif).
Thistle - Thistle can be used for increased endurance, prosperity, protection, good health, and improved energy
Orchid - Resilience is the first property that comes to mind with Orchids, I would’ve never thought Orchids could survive so far North but there’s dozens of smaller breeds decorating the hills. Orchids are also a good aid for fertility magic, harmonizing the home, invoking love, and beauty.
Yarrow - It’s believed it was used for protection magic do the the Anglo-Saxon translation to “to be ready” or “to prepare” and being used in talismans at the time. It can also be used for healing, the release of negative emotions, divination, and banishment of negative energy and spirits.
🔮Crystals🔮 Crystals can placed in or around water to help charge it with a specific intent. Make sure you do your research on each crystal, a lot of crystals are water-soluble. Especially ones under a hardness of 6! All listed crystals are local to Scandinavian countries.
Rhodonite - altruism, discovering oneself, compassion, love, genorisity
Diopside - connection to nature, opening the heart, healing, balance
Iolite - inner vision, healing of trauma, intuition, and soul retrieval
Pyrite - manifestation, action, vitality, willpower, creativity, confidence
Labradorite - magic, protection
Quartz - quartz can be mined more or less anywhere in the world, as well as it’s variations(rose, smokey, etc.). clear quartz is often thought of as an energy amplifier and overall good cleansing stone
Zoisite - (this stone always makes me think of sailor moon)increased personal growth, awakening of the true self, healing, growth and fertility in all aspects
Peridot - warmth and well-begin, prosperity, blesses and energizes one work
Amber - often associated with the Brísingamen, it can be used for light, warmth, positive and solar energies, clarification, and healing
Fluorite - clarity and mental enhancement, divination, insight, clearing the energy fields
✨Cleansing Water Recipe✨ This is a cleansing spray I use around my home after cleaning! I usually dedicate the act of making it Sif + Þórr and the act of using it to Frigg or Sigyn. It’s main intention is to cleanse your house of any negative residue or energy left behind and stabilize the energies, welcoming harmony into the hearth. I use home made oils for everything but the spruce(I use a low concentrate essential oil) because I get worried keeping the branches.
You’ll need:
spruce oil
yarrow oil
birch oil
orchid oil
filtered (new moon)water
fluorite
spray bottle
Make sure while mixing your ingredients you focus on intention of cleansing the home and addressing whatever god(if you’re working with one). Gather all of your ingredients and pour your moon water in the bowl first. It’s important to note that between adding each oil you need to stir thoroughly(thirty seconds give or take) before adding in the next one. Start mixing your water with one hand and add two drops of spruce oil, mix, add two drops of yarrow, mix, three drops of birch oil, mix, and then three drops of orchid oil, mix. Pour your mix into your spray bottle and tie a piece of fluorite to the outside. I usually try to spray all the windows and doorways in the house as well as our most used rooms. Make sure you shake or stir it for thirty seconds before use each time!
Extra Tips
I would advice not risking putting crystals in with essential oils, they can corrode the crystal(s) and it’s hard knowing exactly what concentration your oil blend is in terms of alcohol + extract.
You can use moon water for your cleansing or charged water if moon cycles are your thing(you could also then say it’s blessed Mani too).
You can leave offerings of water spells or charged water on your altar for Vanir, Sigyn, some jötunn, or whatever deities you want really.
You can use a marker to draw corresponding runes or staves on the outside of your bottle.
You can recharge the cleansing water spell by keeping it out under the new moon or placing it next to a burning white candle and quartz.
Charging water can be done a lot of different ways! You can leave water out under the full or new moon, or even out in the sun for energy. Placing certain crystals(like quartz or fluorite) in or next to water can charge it as well. The same can be said with certain herbs ~

❄️🍲Soothing Winter Stew❄️🍲
This is a classic dish, some of you may better know as Labskovs but there's heaps of variations of it! It's a winter favorite for me and always cook tons of it; it's better shared and honestly is one of those recipes that's always better the next day! 🤎 It can be easily adjusted to whatever leftovers you have around(meat, veggies, portions, etc.). For my own practice, I often take the act of making it and make that an offering to Hel and when the stew is done it's an offer to Loki's family, landvættir, and make it a community meal. Do what you please with it and I do hope you enjoy my take on the recipe, please share any photos if you make it!
You'll Need:
5lbs of potatoes - russet is preferred, anything that's flowery
2lbs of chuck steak
4 1/2 cups of water
1 large onion or 1 1/2 medium sized ones
1lbs of baby bellas sliced(I often change this out with whatever we have leftover, sometimes carrots, leeks, or cabbage)
6 bay leaves
5 thyme sprigs or 3/4 tsp of dried thyme
whole garlic clove
4tbsp of butter
2tbsp of pepper
1tbsp of coarse salt
a dutch oven or large sauce pan
To garnish:
6tbsp of chopped chives
Sauerkraut or pickled beets
loaf of bread on the side - we tend to favor potato or rye
To cook:
Heat 2tbsp of the butter in your pan at medium heat. While the pan is warming cut the steak into one inch cubes.
Add the steak to the butter and and brown slightly. Then immediately add the water and gradually bring the water to a boil. [Skim all the froth off the service].
Add the onions, mushrooms, whatever vegetables you chose, bay, thyme, cloves, pepper + salt into the pot. Let it simmer for an hour.[Do not let it boil!]
While the stew is simmering, cut(and peel if you want) your potatoes into 1inch cubes. Add them to the pot and let it simmer for another hour or until the meat falls apart easily and is tender.
Drain off the excess water and add the remaining butter to the pot. Stir clockwise until mixed and mashed, but keep the potatoes a little lumpy.
Serve with your garnishes and enjoy! Let it cool before storing in the fridge.
Correspondences:
baby bellas - longevity, intuition, safety, good health + healing(this is a correspondence i use based on the actual healing effect of mushrooms)
bay leaf - purification, clairvoyance + divination, prosperity + strength(the last two I tend to use w/the intention of the whole household or families I'm sharing with)
cabbage(sauerkraut) - ancestral magic + old wisdom(cabbage is supposedly one the oldest vegetables known to man), protection, moon oriented magic
garlic - courage + strength, healing, spell breaking + shielding
pepper - banishing negativity + cleansing(I like to use intent for the hearth because the whole home is smelling like stew in the end), protection
salt - security + protection, healing, purifying
thyme - good fortune + health, courage, happiness, healing

Consider the way you stir! Counterclockwise banishes and repels negativity, clockwise invites + brings energy to you.
Stain pages for you journal, spell work, or book of shadows! You can also use a strong brewed coffee and a paint brush to paint sigils onto the pages! .

🍊☀️Sunshine Happiness Bath☀️🍊
Hello witchlings! With the sun in the sky and summer all around us in the Northern Hemisphere I thought I'd share one of my favorite bath recipes! It's focus is around solar magic and the oranges - to fill you with vibrations both hearty and gentle, bold and elegant, vibrant and soft. ☀️ It's time to take care of and connect to your divine self!
Ingredients:
☀️ 3-4tbsp of sea salt
☀️ the peel from one orange(preferably local or organic so you know it's pesticide free)
☀️ a handful of lavender buds
☀️ optional: for more intention(or simply the comfy aesthetic) you can make a small altar on your bathroom counter. You can use a candle, light incense, crystals with solar or intended energies(i.e. orange calcite, carnelian, sunstone, citrine, quartz point, etc.), put on music with the right vibes, etc.
Directions:
☀️ Best done when the sun is out - draw a warm bath for yourself. While the tub is filling up add in your spell ingredients and stir the water in a clockwise direction focusing on your intent. As you stir visualize the golden rays of sunlight rippling off the water, the energy of sweetness and joy filling the bath.
☀️ Optional: while the bath is still filling; light your incense, candles, set up your little solar offering, open a window, etc. get comfy!
☀️ Once all set up - soak for at least ten minutes(or whatever is comfortable for you), feeling all the heaviness and darkness be washed away, instead filling you with the bright light of joy.
