HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL (2006), dir. by Kenny Ortega
Alicent being silent as a clam, letting Rhaenyra think Aegon is the usurper and the head of all troubles when Aegon never wanted the throne and his grievances started after his son got killed. Now he can barely walk and only seems to want revenge on Aemond but Alicent basically still sacrificed him to save her own skin. If she had any genuine regrets, she would admit she's the one who has been sabotaging and undermining Rhaenyra's claim for years, as if it wasn't already obvious. That she's the one who's been poisoning people against her sons, she's the one who carried out Otto's ambitions and forced her children. She should've said that Otto was the source of everything. That he connived and plotted for years and manipulated Alicent who in turn manipulated her children. Instead she's guilt-tripping Rhaenyra for killing Otto, but seems to think her own sons are a lost cause and need to be killed. Why is she more sorry about her father who's actually to blame over her own sons?
As someone who has struggled my whole life with suicidal ideation, I truly appreciate Ace as a character. It is so blatantly obvious how self destructive he is and how recklessly he throws himself into danger, and yes other characters do this too, but Ace does this because of his inherent belief that he should not exist, and therefore has no purpose or value. Ace moves through life in a way that seems like he wants to find a reason to die, for example, as a rookie deciding to challenge an Emperor, like, come on. From one of his first appearances in Alabasta, I am recalling that scene where a vendor is offering him the apple to live forever or whatever and he says that just living today is enough, because Ace doesn’t see a future for himself and is unable to accept himself and, by extension, love others have for him. He recklessly chases after Teach, because of his need to be useful for his new family that he is so grateful for, he doesn’t even realize that they love him just as much as he does them. By fighting Teach against Whitebeard’s advice he is essentially finding a cause to justify throwing his life away. When Garp visits him in impel down, he does not ask for pity or sympathy, because he truly thinks he deserves this because of an ingrained belief he has held since childhood. I have complex feelings toward Garp because I feel that if Garp had told Ace as a child that, yes, you did deserve to be born, things could have been much different, but his first fatherly figure failed him so early in life. When I see people say that Garp would’ve saved Ace had he asked, it makes me so upset because, Ace would never ask, it’s completely out of character for him. His realization in Marineford that he wants to live is so tragic, because he has been loved this whole time, yet could not believe it, could not fathom that he was worthy of this love. He lived to protect Luffy growing up and now that Luffy has a crew, he doesn’t need Ace anymore, so it’s so shocking and heartbreaking for him that Luffy would endanger himself to come to Marineford. Ace is such a beautifully written character and the way his depression and suicidal tendencies are expressed is a very real representation in such an eccentric, fantasy world. I relate to him so deeply, as someone who has always struggled internally with where my place is in this world and my purpose here, and also as an older sibling. Yes, I also think he’s super hot lmao, but it’s more than that bc I can not be normal about him ever. But that’s my 4 AM word vomit lol I just love him so much. If some of this doesn’t make sense…… I’m sleep deprived and mentally ill :P
I really liked Ace as a character because you could tell that he was trying to "earn his place" when it came to people who loved him.
oh someone is good to him? he's going to go out of his way to do the utmost to make sure that he returns that favor to them.
the psychic damage he took at Marineford is immense because his core beliefs aren't exactly being shattered, but he's going face to face with the notion that regardless of what he thinks these people really think he's worth risking their lives for. As someone who doesn't even really live for himself, and rather keeps living for other people, it's maddening.
he feels like he needs to earn his keep. he needs to be useful to be worthy of love. and that aspect smacked me right between the ribs.
I am only worth loving if I can give something or be helpful or useful to someone.
I think Ace is such a beautifully complex character too. I like the "yeah he's hot," because it absolutely started that way for me, but Ace's character itself is what has you hooked to him. He's deeply loving, and probably thinks it isn't enough and it can feel like looking into a mirror for a lot of folks.

On it, boss!
Bad news, boss!
the scene of Rhaenyra not being able to cut Otto's head pissed me of so much xD Why did you just show me her going crazy with grief for her 2 sons Otto's been scheming against since FOREVER, Rhaenyra knew Otto has been acting against her for years, from the every moment Aemma died and he pushed Viserys to remarry asap. She lost so fucking much, they took away what was promised to her and she's having any doubts? She should be fucking blood thirsty, mad with grief still, but giving this grief a form of bloody vengeance instead of spiralling into depression. How was she supposed to ever cut Aegon's head? Her half-brother she knew since he was born, who her sons grew up with? The Aegon that right now is so disabled he would be barely able to lay his head on the floor to have it cut. I FUCKING DESPISE THESE WRITERS for lobotomizing all these female chatacters, cause don't even get me started on Helaena and Alicent AND ALSO Baela. Jacaerys' body is not cold yet and they're making her entertain some bald guy I dont really give a fuck about😭 cause why would I?? Daemon had Helaena's LITTLE SONS HEAD CHOPPED OFF IN HIS BED WITH HIS TWIN SISTER BEING A WITNESS TO THAT and they had her cry for one episode and then move on. And now they lobotimzed (hotd women lobotomymaxxing) her to the max in this episode by making her say all these stupid lines stripping her away from any agency, deep emotions, thoughts and motivations of her own.
Men may not lobotomize women in real life anymore, but they sure do still lobotomize my dragon fictional characters.
But to conclude Rhaenyra's cutting Otto's head off scene - that's a really bad fucking look for her, if I was one of the ladies watching it I would nor trust neither belive in Rhaenyra as a queen to be xd
