I just got a wonderful (and admittedly half baked) idea for a Scooby Doo and Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover

Mystery Inc ends up in Sunnydale because of a clue that led them there, of course the big bad ends up being some kind of vampire

Daphne and Buffy get on like a house on fire- seeming as they’re both bad ass and very into the same things

Willow either gets an instant crush on Velma (if I make them the same age, because I want Tara there so it’ll probably be Buffy college era) OR if not the same age is like “oh my goodness she’s just like me at that age, I’m going to take her under my wing” and Velma is very “dude, sorry to say but I’ve been solving mysteries and hunting monsters long before you”

Velma would however adore Giles and would happily have him as a mentor

Scooby would be incredibly wary of Oz, but Shaggy would get along with him incredibly well and be like “dude, he’s so chill, what’s your problem?” Until Oz inevitably explains

Fred and Xander would seem to hit it off at first, until Xander says one off handed thing about the women in the group and Fred now wants to know what the fuck was wrong with Xander and why doesn’t he respect the ladies in the group (“especially cause they’re clearly more skilled than you are” Fred says much to Xander’s demise)

Also probably Velma and Tara bonding cause Velma’s like “I think I might like girls but I don’t know, there’s so much happening” and Tara just nodding supportively

In any Buffy fic I do I firmly would make Willow bisexual, and have her, Oz, and Tara as a polycule. The gang would either all start to look at each other awkwardly for a moment (in a “wait a minute, can we do that?” kind of way, cause ya know, all the jokes about them being a polycule) or Shaggy would say something about “love is love” (cause my boy would 100% say that, not in the “I’m a shitty ally” way but in a “I’m incredibly pan sexual but just don’t really express it”) kind of way

I am so tired of short-attention-span, trim-the-fat culture. All writing advice these days is for how to write like Chuck Palahniuk. "Cut 'think', cut 'feel', cut 'wonder' - only action, only pushing forward, show and move and move and move." What if I could emulate this style, and still don't want to? What if I want to write like Henry James, with three paragraphs of introspective musings between each dialogue line? The music advice is, "make it shortform, make it Tik-Tok compatible, make it punchy, hit the refrain as soon as possible." What if I want that 10-minute prog rock piece? What if I want that symphony? What if I want it slow and luxurious and lazy? Movies. Series. Poetry. Bodies. Everything is "trimmed trimmed trimmed trimmed, stripped bare, you have three seconds to win me over, make it airport chic." I don't want to win you over, then, I guess. I want the fat left it. I want the pleasure and the indolence and the indulgence. Fuck this art-advice that's always "your art needs Ozempic."

They found themselves in silence again, broken only by the crunch of gravel under their shoes. Velma noticed that Shaggy was anxiously fiddling with Scooby’s leash, and seemed to be avoiding her gaze any time she looked at him. “So are you going to tell me how you actually got that black eye or not?” She asked flatly. Shaggy visibly squirmed before sighing, then looked around to make sure there was no one within ear shot. “L-look, if I tell you what happened you won’t believe me.” Velma squinted at him. How ridiculous could he be? “Try me.” “I- we- we got attacked by… by like, a ghost.” Now Velma blinked at him. “A ghost?” “Y-yeah. We were like, walking home when we walked by the old vet clinic and Scooby just like, started freaking out. And then we heard another dog, and I guess Daph thought it was like, trapped or something so we went in to check on it but then there was nothing there. Then there was all this barking from like- I dunno a ghost dog or something and I turned around and, and bam!” He clapped his hands for effect. “I got hit and the barking stopped. So like… yeah. A ghost. Dog… thing.” Velma blinked at him again. “Are you trying to make a joke? Cause it’s a really lame one.”

Okay so y'all know that one Scooby Doo post by @ofgeography ? (I think it was, it's been a while)

I'm writing a fan fic that's my interpretation/ expansion of the idea. And I randomly banged out roughly 2000 words in one evening after having not touched it in months. So I decided to post it. Hopefully I actually keep up with it lol. Will also probably change the title whenever I come up with something better to call it

Tattoo Thoughts

I got my first "proper" tattoo over the weekend, a sword on my bicep (I also have a tiny star on my ankle, my actual first tattoo).

My parents don't like tattoos, but they've excepted that it's something that I like and want to have. My mom does try to take genuine interest and of course asked "why, what does this one mean?" (as many other people have asked). I didn't know how to tell her that it was about control, so I just told her "Because I think it would look cool. Because I like the style. Because I'm a nerd and swords are just neat." Because she wouldn't quite understand what I was talking about if I told her it was my way of taking control back.

All my life I have struggled with control. I have an anxiety disorder and agoraphobia on top of that, so wanting to be in control of everything while feeling like I couldn't be in control of anything was always a line I had to walk. It doesn't help that I'm the eldest "daughter" of a very conservative Christian family, in a community and town that is much the same. There was always a level of polish and perfection that felt I had to uphold. Nothing outlandish or impossible, but enough that it felt hard to just be some days.

The amount of politicians and religious groups trying to police AFAB and trans bodies didn't help either. How can you be in control when everyone tells you you can't be?

And so I choose one of the tattoos off of my Pinterest board and made an appointment with the artist. Taking what I could do to make my body more mine. And a sword felt perfect. I was nerdy, but also reminded me of the little kid who was afraid to leave the house and wished there was a knight in shining armor to protect them.

"Hopefully the lines are straight" said one of the girls from church at a campfire one night when I mentioned it. I thought about how that was one of my worries, and that I had studied this artists portfolio to check out straight the lines on his healed work were. But I reminded myself that this was again, an exercise in control. Not only in making a choice for myself, but also in trusting that choice and that artist and their talent. And in a way surrendering control to the tattoo artist, giving them the creative room to make something beautiful.

When I got to the appointment the artist showed me his reference picture. A woodcut sword with jagged edges that looked like it was made out of stone.

"What do you think of this?" He asked "We can make the line straight if you want, but I like the rough edge. Makes it look like it's been used ya know?"

And it felt perfect.

It is unsymmetrical with notches in the blade and is just ever so slightly curved because of the way I held my arm but it is mine and I am so so happy with it.

It wasn't until after it was finished that I realized how well the imagery of a sword fits well with the concept of control. To be able to swing a sword you need amazing control of your body, or else it's not so effective.

Just like I wanted it to, this tattoo tells a story about me. And I am so happy with the unintentional symbolism that came along with it.
