A few days into 2017 check-in...I’m not depressed. Just introspective. I didn’t make any resolutions. But, I’ve already missed a day of my New Year’s workout challenge. Why do we pretend like the start of a new year is magical?

Why I Don’t Buy Travis Tritt’s BS Explanation
So...I’m sure most everyone has heard about Travis Tritt vs. the Beyhive. I am by no means a member of the Beyhive. I’m not even a hardcore fan of Beyonce. I liked her the most back during her “Crazy in Love” and “Dangerously in Love” days. Heck, “Dangerously in Love” was actually my ringtone for my sorry a$$ boyfriend back during college. But, that’s a story for another day.
Travis Tritt(and I’m sure a bunch of other hicks) is upset about Beyonce performing at the CMAs. Do I watch the CMAs? Nope. I like a handful of country songs, but I don’t care enough to watch the awards. Anyway, I heard about Beyonce performing "Daddy Lessons” at the Country Music Awards, alongside the Dixie Chicks. I watched the video. I thought it was cool. I don’t love the song, but it was an interesting performance.
Now, there is a part of me that wondered if Beyonce was trying to convince a certain crowd that she’s not racist, after her Superbowl performance earlier this year. Was it late damage control? I don’t know. I don’t care. Point is, music is universal. It’s one thing that brings us all together. But, Travis Tritt decided to post some snarky tweets, and he got called out about it. Then, he said his issue was that he thinks country music can stand on it’s own. Country music doesn’t need artists from other genres to give it a lift.
I don’t buy Tritt’s reasoning, because quite a few “country” artists are actually borderline pop. Just because you play a guitar in a song, that doesn’t make it country. Beyonce is from Texas. Beyonce is country. Travis Tritt wouldn’t care if some blonde pop star had performed at the CMAs. Oh...I mean a Caucasian woman. The blonde thing wouldn’t rule Beyonce out.
As for his claims that the BET Awards don’t invite country music stars to perform, I don’t have the time or care enough to look up info to see if his claim is accurate. But, I do know that one of my favorite songs by the rapper Nelly, is a duet with country music star Tim McGraw. I think, when artists from different genres get together, they can make beautiful music. Sorry, Travis Tritt, you don’t own country music. You don’t run the CMAs. You can’t keep Beyonce in a box like you want to. Suck it up, or write a depressing song about it. Get over yourself, cowboy.

They Had Us All F’d Up
So...as I sit here and ponder the celebration of Columbus Day, looking at various memes,I realize how our schools really confused us. We celebrated Columbus Day with gusto, singing songs about how this great man discovered a country that was already discovered and inhabited by the Native Americans.
It’s not our fault. We didn’t know any better. I can’t even blame our teachers, for they were fed the same buffet of lies. However, now that we know the truth, we cannot perpetuate this myth of a heroic Christopher Columbus.
As an educator, I refuse to pretend that he was a hero. Whether it’s official or not, I will celebrate the Native Americans on this day from now on. I will teach my students(I am a private tutor, so I have fewer restrictions) about the rich history of the Native Americans. I won’t speak out against Columbus. I will simply pretend that he didn’t exist, kinda like he did to the Native Americans. That’s all for now. I started celebrating with rum a little too early and my thoughts are starting to run together. Happy Native Americans Were Here First You Idiot Day!!!
The bottom below rock bottom. We imagine that the owner of this car wrote this note while sitting in their...
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
