I was put in charge of helping my niece get ready for her class Valentines Day party today and at some point answered her with an Ilya Rozanov “okie”.

“What was that?”

“It’s from a TV show I like. It’s a character‘s first line. ‘Okie’.”

“What’s his second line?”

“You vill not be so nice when ve beat you.”

“So from toddler to grown man who will kill you.”

You know. Not that bad a summary of the character. Just add hockey.

I’m lightly fascinated that Rachel Reid made the Toronto team both evil and good at hockey. It feels mean in two directions.

Catherine O'Hara was one of the funniest actresses of her generation, maybe of all time. She made generations laugh from SCTV to Home Alone to Best in Show to Schitt's Creek, there was no one like her. She will be so dearly missed.

Another random Heated Rivalry thought for the Canadians — this is so very shot where I live that it holds this unique frustration of knowing I know a place but not being sure where it is. “Oh! That’s U of T. God. What building? Is that Architecture? Or Sid Smith? What other places have that concrete? I know those tables. I have been to events with those tables. This is going to drive me crazy.”

I know I will be somewhere in the next six months — more than once — and say “ THERE are those weird build outs! That’s where they shot this!”

One location I know for sure is Dundurn Castle. I get to watch Ilya run while in “Moscow” right along the path where my BFF and I walked and drank coffee after the Barbie movie. “Oh, look at that sad grass in front of the lake. Must be Hamilton.”

I would like to announce that the weird build outs were in fact at Hamilton Place. Which I kept thinking they were but talked myself out of it since I haven’t been there in at least a decade.

Still no time because it’s Christmas, Day Three, but every time a new episode drops I have a moment of delusion where I think I’m going to be normal about it and not watch every scene 20 times. Like “that was so good. But I don’t think I’m going to hyper focus on these scenes the way I did with the last episode…” and then it’s two days later and I keep opening my phone to reexamine Ilya’s hand movements when he’s taking to Yuna and here we are again.

Little confused why so many viewers seem determined to make either Shane or Ilya the villain of the story. It's a love story. They love each other. The villain is homophobia and toxic masculinity.
