You’re the villain that the Chosen One is meant to defeat. Once they arrive, you notice they’re just a teenager who barely knows how to swing a sword. Angered by your opponents sending children to do all their dirty work, you decide to help the teen get revenge.

Autistic representation time!

Abigail Winters, main character of my book (pictured below).

I never realised how cathartic it would feel to write an autistic character, having lived with autism most of my life. Just being able to express about the following:

• Stimming

• Special interests

• Getting passionate and worked up about special interests

• People not getting why you get so worked up about your special interests

• Overstimulation

• Missing social cues

• Knowing something about you is different, but not quite understanding what and you’re just left wondering what you’re doing wrong

• Meeting someone else with autism

• Learning to realise that you are different and there’s nothing wrong with you

I really hope that, for people who read about this character, they’ll be able to see themselves in her.
