Can I just say that with the release of Iron Lung, Obsession and The Backrooms. It's been so nice to hear the phrases "$50 million smash hit" and "$100 million dollar phenomenon" when talking about box office numbers. I'm so sick of hearing about movies that manage to make hundreds of millions of dollars and still somehow lose money because Hollywood studios can't budget their blockbusters in a reasonable way. It's just really great to see a bunch of YouTubers come in and show Hollywood how it's done. I also think it's possible that with the frequency with which we're getting these hits, big studios might actually be paying attention and start change their budgeting strategies.
There's also an irony to the fact that these low budget films are (at least in Iron Lungs case) paying and treating their crew better than companies worth billions.
I saw Obsession the other day and I can’t stop thinking about it. The loss of someone’s agency is honestly terrifying. There really isn’t a portion of this movie that isn’t suspenseful. And the actions of the real villain just stick with you.
Inde Navarrette deserves an Oscar for this one.
