This Can't Be The End (Drew/Katie)
Katie walked around the apartment, straightening up each room as she walked through. She had decided to take being home alone as an opportunity to clean up the apartment, which she was difficult to do when the twins were home. Taking a break from cleaning, Katie sat down and looked around the room. The apartment just felt empty. It had felt that way since Drew left. She had been thinking about him a lot recently. Since school ended, she didn’t have that to occupy her mind. She really did miss him but she continued to avoid him, afraid of being hurt again. Looking up at the clock on the wall, Katie realized Drew would be there soon to drop the kids off. She didn’t want to live like that. She hated the idea of having the awkward pick-ups and drop-offs. Getting up, Katie finished cleaning the kitchen. After a couple of minutes, Katie heard the knock on the door. She walked over and pulled the open, looking at the ground as she did so.
Drew still had the wedding ring that Katie had thrown at him, a reminder of what once was and what could've been. The ring symbolized his biggest mistake in life. It wasn't meant to travel around in his pocket. It was meant to be fit perfectly around Katie's finger. He wasn't sure what he would do with the ring once they finally parted ways. Drew was certain that he couldn't continue to carry the ring around that now haunted him. Perhaps Katie would take it back and pawn or sell it. At least it would be of help to her even if it's purpose hadn't been fully served. When the door to his former apartment opened, Drew knew that this couldn't be another one of their awkward and quiet exchanges. They needed to talk. Without saying a word, Drew walked inside the apartment and laid the twins down on a cover in the floor. He turned around and brought his eyes to meet Katie's. "We need to talk." Drew finally said, crossing his arms, trying to conceal the fact that his hands were trembling of nerves.
This Can't Be The End (Drew/Katie)
Drew knew that without Katie, life just wasn't the same. Still, he understood completely that it was his fault and only his fault that a perfectly good relationship had been ruined. Divorce was inevitable. Custody matters would arise and would need to be dealt with. So far, Drew had helped out financially with the twins but it was Katie who mostly kept them. With school out for the summer, Drew could focus on working as much as possible. Work distracted him. It helped keep his mind from wondering to the very dark places that plagued him during his failed suicide attempt at Noah's house. Even without Katie, Drew still had Harlow and Mason but there was a void in his heart that no one could ever possibly fell.
After spending a few hours with the twins, Drew knew that it was time to get them back to their mother. Tonight they would talk. He would make sure of it. For better or for worse, Drew was going to say what needed to be said. He loved Katie dearly even though he was unfaithful, a mistake he would regret until his last dying breath. "If you love someone, you set them free...." Drew mumbled sadly to the twins who were strapped in the seat of his car. After taking a few moments to compose himself, Drew gathered the twins and made his way up to the place he once called home. Drew took a deep breath and then knocked, this conversation was going to be a hard one to have.
I miss you but I know that one day I'll win you back...
if not, I'll die trying...
You're all that I want, Katie. Without you, I have nothing.
