Yes, and the vessel [typically] changes entirely.

I feel like here on Tumblr, non humans and humans alike are forgetting that the term nonhuman doesn't just refer to therians. It's a very broad term, and many of us are not therians. It can be spiritual beings, fictionkins, objectkins, and a vast number of other things I don't even know the terms for.

I say this because I personally have been looking through the nonhuman tags and all I see is therians. I personally am feeling very excluded from my own community. Maybe other nonhumans just don't know how to talk about their experiences or spread their posts, but I almost never see any other kind of nonhuman content and it is just very lonely.

Nothing against therians obviously, I just want everyone to know and remember how broad of a term nonhuman is, and that not every nonhuman is a therian or related to animals in some way.

Question for the physical alterhumans here

I support y’all but I have a question: I heard someone say that alterhumanity is supposed to be non physical so how is physical alterhumans alterhumans?/gq

Physical alterhumans (gonna be specific for nonhumanity in my post, since alterhuman and nonhuman are not synonymous) have always been around, but the community has a long history of saneism and ableism. This led people to overcorrect and go "no no we don't ACTUALLY think we're nonhuman, we're not ⭐Crazy™️⭐". This problem still exists, but it's not AS bad as it was some years ago.

Circling back around to alterhumanity, after reading the official coining post, it's not defined as purely non-physical. That's just something people keep tacking on due to, well, the thing I described above.

is there an alter human label where you’re not otherkin in the “indentifies as” way but rather you just Are that thing. just not physically? the term otherkin doesn’t feel right for me being a piglin but it’s the closest thing i’ve found ?

I'm a system member and I'm just a dromaeosaurus, I'm not paleokin or a paleotherian or anything. Another way to explain it is if you saw a squirrel outside, that squirrel isn't squirrelkin, it's just a squirrel.

Although I use "physically" to explain that in my case, I don't mean physically as in the outside body of the host. I mean physically as in my body inside the system

(Foreword: I’m not vaguing anyone in specific, I’ve seen this a number of times recently.)

I am gonna need you guys to start clarifying what you mean when you say “believe we’re/they’re actually animals”, because if you’re using it to mean “believe we’re/they’re physically animals” I need to point out that that is not what you’re saying, you’re saying “genuinely identify as animals”. Actually is a synonym for genuinely, not physically. If you don’t believe/feel yourself to actually be your kintype, you’re by definition not otherkin at all. Using “actually” to mean “physically” is at best unclear and at worst implying that people who don’t identify as physically nonhuman “know” we’re not ~really~ nonhuman at all, which I know is not what any of y’all mean but is definitely how it reads, especially to anyone not already intimately familiar with the discourse. Please use the words you actually mean, I’m begging you guys here

This!!!! This!!! It’s confusing and invalidating, and that’s not even getting into physicality in which case it’s exclusionary. If I read a post that says “We don’t believe we’re actually animals” I think two things: 1, that the poster thinks they know my lived experience better than I do, and/or 2, that the post is not including me and my experiences, and I’m potentially being edged out of community I’ve been in for over a decade.

I saw a post recently tagged therian and otherkin that said things along the lines of “therians know we’re not actually animals. If you think you are actually an animal you need help” and boy howdy that’s rude at the very least, lol. That’s going into someone’s house and saying to the person who lives there “you’re wrong and if you disagree then you need reprogramming.” AND it’s spreading a false definition of terms to people who might not know about the topic.
