Hey, absolutely yes. Keep us on the radar, we hope to have some news very soon.
Silence in space
Hey Crew!
You might have wondered what’s up with the long radio silence, and we’re here to tell you that we anticipate it to last some more. After collecting all your feedback from the two public playtests, we’re hard at work to take Drone Swarm to the next level!
We're going to use this focus time wisely and once we're back you can expect a shipload of new content to explore. Remember to sign up to our mailing list to stay up to date with our development process: http://bit.ly/SwarmTests And in the meantime, check out this neat thing we’ve been working on these past couple of weeks. Did someone say action queuing?
You voiced your thirst for some juicy information on Drone Swarm’s Meta Game! For today’s #ScreenshotSaturday we are going to quench your thirst with the first ever public look at the galaxy map! Which system would you jump to first?
What’s next?
During our 2nd round of playtesting, we got so much great feedback again! Three most requested changes we're taking straight into development: Multi-Swarm Handling: Enabling you to plan your actions a lot better, so we're thinking of ways to implement action queuing. Shortcut to split your Swarms in half: Sometimes there just isn't enough time to split your swarm manually, so for easier handling, we plan to implement a shortcut letting you split your swarm into two equal sub-swarms.
Controls to UI: There are hotkeys that let you switch between swarms quickly, but since all the swarms look pretty much the same, there is no way you can remember which sub-swarm has which number. So we're going to look for a pleasing way to have the swarm number visible at all times.
are there any papers in existence / in work that outline how you implemented your drones? im curious :3
No we do not have any papers out there. But I recently gave a talk @ QuoVadis about the topic, going into several implementation details. Afaik they made a video recording, so that should become available! :-)
More Drone Swarm Pre Alpha Playtests
Right from the start, we knew: we want to develop Drone Swarm together with our community. Who else, if not you could help us make an awesome game?
You already gave as a lot of great feedback on exhibitions and during the first ever playtest outside of the team. Upon your feedback we focused on the preferred RTS control scheme. Again we want YOUR opinion on it!
In this playtest you’ll be able to test the RTS controls improvements we’ve made after our first playtest in March.
So how can you join?
We’ll be sending out an invite to everyone who signed up including a questionnaire that will help us to better understand your gaming habits.
Not signed up, yet? No worries, just hit the big orange sign up button, you can’t miss it.
We’ll add another 50 testers at this time. Let us know why you want to play Drone Swarm and why you would be a great tester :)
We’re looking forward to test with you.
- Your Drone Swarm Team
You encounter a fleet of ships. What would you do?
As promised here our first implementation of the swarm consuming an asteroid! YUMMY! What do you think?
Are you curious what kind of references we have in mind when we work on Drone Swarm? Well, here is our current moodboard! Do any of our choices surprise you? What would your moodboard look like when you think of Drone Swarm?
One wish that was mentioned quite often during the playtest was to interact with asteroids on the maps, and today we’re super excited to tease a new feature that is being developed right as we speak: Drones will be able to CONSUME asteroids!
You read that correctly. Your Drones will EAT THEM UP.
More info on that coming very soon!
BREAKING NEWS! First YouTube Video of our Playtest incoming!
Watch Vallen of Mischief of Mice guide you through the current pre-alpha build of Drone Swarm, and be sure to watch until the end, that last fight is intense!
A big thank you to everyone who applied to test Drone Swarm!
The lucky 50 that got in have received their Steam Key in the mail today and are already giving us lots of great feedback.
Didn’t make it this time? There will be plenty more playtests in the future and every one of you will have a chance to test the game sooner or later. Make sure to be subscribed to our mailing list to receive upcoming dates and all the updates!
Hey there!
Are you a Streamer or a YouTuber or a content creator of any kind? Do you want to show footage of our game to your community? Here’s what we say to that:
PLEASE DO! We feel honored that you found your way here and want to do something with Drone Swarm! There’s nothing we don’t want you to show and we’re super cool with you voicing your opinion. We value every feedback we get and take it very seriously! If you want access to the game, just send us an email with your credentials to: [email protected]
Is this game going to be like a Real Time 4x like Sin of a solar empire? Or is it more like a traditional real time strategy like Starcraft?
Hey lightjolly!
Actually Drone Swarm will be all about the swarm. We concentrate on the combat part mainly, on how to use the swarm best, strategically and tactically speaking. Of course you’ll be able to upgrade the swarm and make it better, but the classical Starcraft-Like base-building is not there. Instead you have your mothership to roam the galaxy, battle, explore and harvest resources! :)
Based on the feedback we received showing Drone Swarm, we've made changes to the way you split your Swarm into smaller divisions. Sign up for our Newsletter to have a chance to play with the new controls!
Your enemies are lining up for battle! What could be better than using the swarm for a little pushing and shoving to obliterate three vessels at once in a chain reaction.
Lead developer Julian and his team have a burning question for you.
