Okay this post is actually getting some people interested so here's a proper, non-jokey introduction:
To Be Hero X is an anthology series set in a world where people can gain powers based on the trust people place in them and the specific perceptions people have of them. These powers also often come with unpleasant side effects stemming from the same things. Each of the main characters gets a short story arc (ranging between 1-4 episodes) introducing them to the audience and exploring their unique struggles, with all of them coming together over time into a single, cohesive storyline. Currently, the first season is almost over (3 episodes left!) and a second season is already confirmed, planned to focus on a competition for the title of the top-ranked hero, X (hence the title), but we have no idea when it'll come out.
If you have access to Bilibili, you can watch it there and also participate in a popularity contest that'll influence events in season 2; otherwise, it can be found on Crunchyroll or. y'know. elsewhere ;). Chinese original language, there's also JP and EN dubs and they're all pretty solid, so go with whichever language you prefer, or go insane and watch them all, idk I'm not your mom.
The characters described in this post, in order (also the order of their story arcs), are:
Nice (real name unknown currently), the so-called "perfect hero", whose whole public image is a lie
Lin Ling, an ordinary person thrust into the world of heroes by sheer coincidence
E-Soul (Yang Cheng), a former stage actor who accidentally-then-on-purpose usurps a well-established hero's identity
Lucky Cyan (Cyan), a popular musician blessed with good fortune who was once an object of cult worship (against her will) for her luck
Queen (Liu Yuwei), an ambitious woman who wants to overturn the whole system and replace it with one she believes will be better
Loli (Luo Li) (I know her hero name sucks), a teenage genius inventor out to prove to the world that strength and cuteness can go hand-in-hand
Ghostblade (Wang Yi), an assassin who deeply values silence
The Johnnies (Little Johnny, human, and Big Johnny, little cat thing), a duo composed of an unearthly creature capable of transforming into basically a kaiju, and the only person capable of controlling him
Dragon Boy (that... might be his real name??? idk his arc is ongoing rn), a tough-as-nails rebel who wants to "clean up all the trash" in the world
Ahu, a dog who as far as I know mostly just wants to protect his owner?
And finally, the current Hero X (real name unknown currently), ordinary salaryman by day, reality manipulator by night, extremely mysterious
Along with these characters, there's a sizeable cast of very well-written supporting characters and antagonists!
The show has a lot of interesting social commentary, the story is incredibly well put-together, and uh basically I've been obsessed with it for months now. Definitely a high rewatch value show, it's jam-packed with tiny but significant details you probably wouldn't pick up on on the first viewing. Next episode is going to emotionally devastate me and I am living in fear until it comes out.
Watch TBHX my final message goodbye
