i see we're discussing not of a cold nature! i actually downloaded the fic to my phone so i can read it over and over again bc it's kind of foundational text for me. i agree with everyone saying they'd love to know what those two are up to these days. i'm also curious about tampa? i don't know much about jo's hockey career in general to be fair. but knowing about what the wolf pack did in montreal and still saying it was better in tampa....woof. pun intended.

In my head, tampa was just Cold. jo would take the biting and the posturing and the minor assault with the habs because despite it all, he still felt he had some sort of community there (and it also felt like proof he deserved it - meanwhile tampa, he still had hope to be crushed).

jo being so back and forth from juniors -> tampa and then syracuse -> tampa, in my head he just got no loving from...anyone.

like, montreal gave him his little human cadre that did their best. jo's never been so isolated as he was with the lighting.

AS FOR WHAT THEY'RE UP TO NOW? Summer house is a revolving door of packmates, Jo's probably a few months post-partum. nate has a very large house that accommodates everyone and the guys who can try to make it for every full moon and jo is a mama and also the most beloved omega who ever lived and is just fat and happy. and also an honorary cup winner because in a universe where they kept Jo, the 25-26 Avs 100% won the whole thing

not the person who asked the og question, but I will just say that I would read literally any sliver of a slice of life from not of a cold nature. Cannot get enough of your wolf!jo. But the ANGST is what makes it my fav fic ever, so things I have thought about if you’re wondering: how Sid fits into Nate’s life here and how Jo deals with it, How Nate/Jo/Avs pack act when in MTL/Tampa, How Nate/jo handle new pack (alphas) who don’t know Jo’s past. Any further suffering for wolf!jo, really.

So if you just write what you feel like and then maybe build something around it, does that mean you have lots of single scene / half scene things floating around not attached to anything else? I do this and it always feels like a failure to me that I have like an A4 page of frantic scribbles about an idea and then nothing further. But I like your perspective of just following the good vibes.

yes I have 10000 WIPs that'll never see the light of day. some are 20k, some are 200 words, but I kind of try to adopt the mentality that none of them are a waste of time? if nothing else they were practice + taught me an important lesson about what I don't want to write. they marie kondo'd my ass

The rookie!nate fic is so flaming sexy. My pedantic uber logical brain wanted to think about how hard it would be for them with that age gap so young, but your writing is so good I said NO. It’s like that post about being a monarchist for the duration of the lord of the rings movies - for 15,000 words I do not believe there will be any problems for their relationship and everything will be perfect for them forever.

…weird that I can suspend disbelief for bio!bdsm without thinking about it but an age gap is the thing that made me wobble. Testament to your writing for making both believable 🥰

You did the right thing. checking realism at the door is the way. OR, you can do as I've done, which is be utterly realistic in this way:

for 99.9% of the population, it'd never work! for natejo, it always does. but that's only because they're the .1% of the population that're freak4freak enough to make literally any dynamic work. in fic, in real life, it might not work for most people but they'll make it happen to its illogical extreme
