Holy fuck
This works best if you keep windows closed.
Another design is using 2 20x25x1 filters, taping them to the sides of the box fan and then to each other so they sort of make a triangle, then cutting cardboard to make a top and bottom to the triangle.
This was discovered as a more effective design during the 2020 US west coast fires.
https://tombuildsstuff.blogspot.com/2013/06/better-box-fan-air-purifier.html
A better more efficient and odor eliminating homemade air purifier than just taping a 20x20x1 filter to a box fan. Sometimes you need to
If you live on the west coast of the United States, fire season is coming and this is vital.
We’ve been using one, and they’re great. Might try to make the double filter version this year.
theyve been doing a bunch of studies on this during the pandemic and this design is best! 4 filters and a shroud to optimize flow rate.

I’ve personally used both the flat single-filter version AND the triangular two-filter version, and based on subjective personal experience I would argue that the benefits from the second filter, both in terms of airflow and filtration, are absolutely worth it. If you need a makeshift air filter and you have two filters to work with, build the triangle (if not the box, i have no idea how good that one works but based on the info here i presume it’s a fair bit better.)
This trick works. We use it in my house.
If anyone wants aesthetic inspo or design ideas check R/CrBoxes
Tried both the box and the one-filter version. Used the one-filter version for like 3 years, only bought an actual brand name machine because the noise was driving me insane. The box version was quieter iirc but the one filter version is LOUD as HELL
“So... We got the exploding diarrhea. Here's my advice for anyone who doesn't have it yet:
It's going to take a minute for the government to pin down where this is coming from, and then issue a recall, because the FDA has been gutted. But, I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt : this is coming from Taylor Farms produce, and you will see them recalled.
You'll want to avoid all Taylor Farms produce in the grocery store. They supply McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, about any fast food place you can think of.
Raspberries, watermelons, cilantro, and the veggies you're hearing about are not causing this many people to get sick. It's the shredded lettuce, specifically, that's the problem. But, you'll want to stay away from every type of produce this company puts out, because one strand of shredded lettuce is all it takes to contaminate bushels.
Taylor Farms is the source. Taco Bell proactively pulled their produce from their restaurants. You're going to see other fast food places doing this, and probably will see that before the government names a source. The FDA knows this, but they can't come out and tell us all until there's proof, which takes resources and research, which takes manpower, but the FDA has been cut by about 20-30%
During the Biden term, onions at McDonald's had ecoli. We knew this because DNA testing was done quickly and they were able to narrow it down to one place that caused the outbreak. And, it was traced back to Taylor Farms. This isn't going to be solved as quickly though.
When you get this, make a virtual appointment to your PCP - a "same day sick" appointment. Tell them someone in your family just tested for this and was positive and was prescribed Bactrim. If you go in person, they're probably going to make you poop in a cup and wait until results come back to prescribe.
You'll know when you get this. Trust me on all of this.
You'll want to stay hydrated because this parasite damages the lining of the small intestine. Your small intestine, in turn, secretes more water into the gut, and less nutrients and liquid are able to remain in the body. So no matter how much you shit, you're going to want to drink. A day of this leads to dehydration if you don't increase your fluid intake, and a few days will land you in the hospital.
If you have headaches, weakness, muscle cramps, dizziness, or an increase heart rate - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Go to the ER for fluids if you can't drink enough.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. Brought to you by America's 250 birthday celebrations, workforce reduction in the FDA and CDC, and viewers like you.
Please feel free to share this.
And, MAGA - don't blow up the comment section. I argued with y'all on COVID bc I was afraid y'all would die, but I really don't care if you get explosive diarrhea.
And no, ivermectin will not help this at all.”
I really don’t want to open this can of worms because Tumblr hath no fury like people called out on their political performativeness but it is literally driving me up the wall to watch people react to Serkis’ ‘keep Tolkien white’ commentary by insisting twice as hard that Tolkien would descend down to earth and dropkick the entire Republican party to hell or whatever, just because they want to ensure that a piece of media they enjoy isn’t seen as being morally impure. Case in point: I have seen at least five instances of Tolkien’s ‘I hate apartheid’ valedictorian address being used as a ‘counter’ to Serkis being racist, including by actual news outlets.
Except it’s only ever the ‘I hate apartheid’ line that’s shared, and not the actual quote in its full context. Because here it is:
If we consider what Merton College and what the Oxford School of English owes to the Antipodes, to the Southern Hemisphere, especially to scholars born in Australia and New Zealand, it may well be felt that it is only just that one of them should now ascend an Oxford chair of English. Indeed it may be thought that justice has been delayed since 1925. There are of course other lands under the Southern Cross. I was born in one; though I do not claim to be the most learned of those who have come hither from the far end of the Dark Continent. But I have the hatred of apartheid in my bones; and most of all I detest the segregation or separation of Language and Literature. I do not care which of them you think White.
Which is to say. This isn’t exactly the antiracist quote of the century, to say the least. This is a white South Africa born man and a white Australian shaking hands and going ‘omg we relate’ and expressing what is a very, very mild ‘segregation is not great’ opinion in order to convey his thoughts on an academic subject, ie the confluence of language and literature. Using race to make a point about his own subject of interest, in his own interest, which is, amusingly enough, what a lot of ostensibly well meaning progressive seem to be doing.
I also think that some of the general surprise around ‘what do you mean large swathes of the Tolkien fandom are incredibly conservative!?’ in lib/left Tolkien fandom is the result of a tendency in said parts of the fandom to transpose one’s own progressiveness onto Tolkien and turn a blind eye to things like, say, the Shire being a very specifically mid-century British racist construct that is very, very clear in its politics, often going so far as to insist it’s anarchist or an ideal society or whatever the fuck… and then getting really Pikachu-meme ‘but they’re misreading it’ every single time a conservative explains exactly what it is about the legendarium that they really love, and get surprised when someone uses the Shire being a racist construct to do more racism. It is 2026 let us do away with ‘I don’t see colour’ interpretations of media, I beg. Nobody is cancelling you for enjoying a book that is not kind to race. Most of the books I love are not kind to race.
also re: ‘serkis is factually incorrect bc there canonically were hobbits with brown skin so tolkien is antiracist’. hobbits with brown skin, in the period tolkien was writing in, did not deliberately signify racialisation. half the famous five kids were referred to as being nut brown. the stars of malory towers were described as brown skinned and were all fully white english. in enid blyton. ie a notoriously racist writer. the kid in the secret garden is described as brown. midcentury writers used brown as a standin for tanned! this is incredibly common! how are we doing ‘oh he’s just of his time’ but not bothering to look at the ‘conventions’ of his time! it’s fine if you want to interpret it as that in fanworks and adaptations but i’m going insane when people are acting like tolkien referring to characters as brown skinned makes them not-white and apparently makes him some sort of antiracist.
It is so ridiculously easy to gain a reputation for being competent by just reading signs.
This is not metaphorical. I mean actual, literal pieces of paper/plastic/metal/whatever explicitly erected to inform the public.
“How did you know this was the right trail?” I read the sign.
“Wow, how did you know what that flower is?” There’s a SIGN.
“How did you know we needed to use the side door?” THERE IS A SIGN POSTED ON THE FRONT DOOR.
Just…why are we having such different experiences of the world? People can read. I KNOW they can read. There’s nothing wrong with their vision.
Just. READ. THE. GOD. DAMN. SIGN.

So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.
I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.
Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.
So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.
Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.
Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵💫
Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.
Anyways, if you want to print the wheel guards yourself, you can get the model here or here.
I also made a quiet version you can stick furniture felt pads on.
People love simple, extremely practical things. I hope you win!
they invented like 1000000 foods by doing some bullshit to milk
More on the "I'm obsessed with baby Lotus beetle form" brainrot. I kept thinking about how the color palette of her little baby beetle form is purple-ish/blue-ish, like the Lotus we've always known. Which contrasts a lot with the form of Natah we saw during the New War : all black. So I wondered if maybe she would've looked different without being altered/affected by the human mimicry form of Margulis. As in, her actual full on Sentient form, that would've directly evolved from the little beetle baby. So I offer to you Natah Prime! I guess. Or like, original Natah. Perhaps as she was before she looked at the Tenno and decided to take on the role of their mother.
As bonus, some baby Erra and baby Lotus because people were being silly in a server comparing him to baby birds, specifically baby Jacanas. Look it up. It's worth it.
Can you hear the people sing?
I passed a flower shop next to a tattoo shop and at first I laughed because I thought it was ironic and then i freaked because IMAGINE YOUR OTP IN A FLORIST/TATTOO ARTIST AU
OMG I COULD TOTALLY IMAGINE THEM LIKE THAT IT WOULD BE SO PERFECT
I cannot BELIEVE a post I made when I was 13 is circulating! And also apparently started this trope? I thought somebody had the idea separately and it blew up that way😭
According to fox entertainment this is who we should be afraid of. I didn't know who Francesca Hong was 10 minutes ago but thankfully now I'm aware of this monster and her monsterous policies
The breeze is nice up here
i have not seen this meme in so long im loving it
one of the reasons i love tumblr is that occasionally classic memes like this show up on my dashboard
It’s like reaching into the cupboard for food and accidentally finding a 19 year old can of soup that you’ve kept for sentimental reasons
Can anyone explain wtf is going on here especially a Korean speaker
someone on reddit explained 😭
That is one of the most astronomical fuck up translations I have ever seen.
dear everyone on tumblr who needs to host images elsewhere (e.g. to embed on ao3 etc), please give squidge a go!! it's free, it's nonprofit and it's geared towards fandom so nsfw images won't get deleted!! and please stop using imgur if you can because they blocked the uk rather than acquiesce to the fucking internet safety laws, which I can't really hold against em but it does mean all imgur pictures just show up as big purple boxes now
Squidge! Holy blast from the past, Batman. The last time I remember even looking at that site was... eons ago.
( Oh, what was I reading? The Quartz Key. Yes, it's m/m. )
Not only is Squidge still around, it's expanded and grown! It is still run by the same guy, though now it's a nonprofit with a board and everything, and while they maintain all the old squidge sites as static archives, they have a new multifandom archive using the AO3 code at squidgeworld.org. They also host podfics and fanart.
For those younguns in the crowd, back in the day erotic fanworks--especially slash--was not welcome very many places. Walter was willing to host it, and has been a haven for NSFW fanworks since 1994. The various archives and so on hosted at squidge.org were never very large, compared to lots of other archives, but they were a necessary part of the fannish ecosystem, and I'm really glad that there is now a structure in place to keep the whole system running beyond just "Walter's a great guy willing to donate lots of time and money." Walter is a great guy! but like. it's good to have other people to help out and keep things going in the long run.
the thing about performative behavior is that it is intentional. i mean, it’s in the name, right? that doesn’t mean that the impulse or reason behind it can’t be subconscious, that you can Act In A Way because it feels correct without examining why you believe so or what you're trying to prove, but it is literally in the name — you are performing in a way, for a purpose. whether it is to make a point or convince others or mask.
house is performative: he dresses and acts in a certain way and is reflexively defiant and always late to prove a point; that he doesn’t care, that he won’t listen, that he’s unmoved by social requirements. that doesn’t mean that his dislike of authority and rules isn’t sincere, but the way he will always go out of his way to defy, even if it deprives him of something he wants, is performative. “appearing this way” matters more to house than “compromising and being happy.” wilson is performative: what matters to him is Being Liked, and he intentionally suppresses himself and his desires in order to be certain that he always appears to be harmless and likeable and kind, even when he does unkind or manipulative things: he is careful to always, always be the victim.
foreman, too, is performative, in more subtle ways: how he masks his anger and frustration, how he always dresses sharply and suppresses his emotions. you could say, well, he's just a naturally serious and calm person, but the show says enough that he is deeply insecure (whenever anyone makes a statement about him — acceptance, poison, etc. — he immediately spirals into self-doubt and questioning), that he is well aware that as a Black man with a criminal history, he will always need to prove himself and does not have the luxury of being anything less than perfectly in control. in fact, many if not most characters on house are to an extent performative, or struggle with their identity: cuddy hides her own loneliness and insecurity behind a brisk professional exterior, performing success and leadership. amber performs femininity in her cardigans and pearls and soft voice in an attempt (likely) to soften her aggression and negative responses to her desires.
but just as notable are the characters who don't perform. chase, we are told, wants to perform apathy, to appear cool and aloof and uncaring, but is phenomenally bad at it: he is too impulsive and thin-skinned and driven by his emotions to put up any sort of mask for long. cameron is fascinatingly bad at acting: she is unable to hide any of her emotions, to maintain an aloof front, to be passive or easy-going. (i do wonder how much of fandom's hatred of her is down to this: cameron seems like she should be the sweet, shy, feminine young woman, but insists on being stubborn and angry and fighting for what she believes instead of ever compromising: she isn't performative, when she should be.) park and masters are both incapable of hiding who they are in different ways, or of masking in socially-acceptable ways.
the thing is, this is fiction. a television show. if a character subconsciously wants something, the writers do make sure the audience finds out: while in real life you can act for years and years without articulating or even knowing why, fiction doesn't really have that luxury. that house is not just rebellious but performs rebelliousness is key to his character and key to predicting his actions: another person might, for example, defy vogler, but put that all aside to tell cuddy that actually yes, he would like to attend that baby naming. that chase is incapable of lying or having a subtle thought, that whenever he is going through something or troubled it is visible from space, is just as much a part of his character as wilson's suppressing of his own thoughts and wishes is to him. if chase wanted something subconsciously, we'd know it within ten minutes (or ten seconds, if rowan walks in a room): if wilson wanted something subconsciously, we'd know it only after multiple episodes of house prodding at it; if house wanted something subconsciously, we'd know because he'd do the opposite.
characterization isn't just "this person likes yellow things and sharks," "this person has daddy issues," it is also how does this person react to the world around them? what do they want? and how do they treat the things they want? do they perform, or are they honest? do they run, or do they deny, or do they face it head on?
