Text from Mia: Habibti, how was the henna night? I want pictures!
Deleted text to Mia: I punched a girl and now my mom won’t let me go to Australia
Text to Mia: It was nice
Amira: Yes?
Essam: Can I come in?
Amira: Out!
Essam: What do you think about my suit? Nice, isn’t it? Today your brother isn’t a loser for once. All of your friends will swoop me down. And you’ll have to protect me. What’s the matter?
Amira: I’m really not in the mood for that wedding
Essam: Family is family. You know how it is. Try salt water. It might make you vomit, but I always use it when I don’t want to go to school
Amira: Essam, come on
Essam: But it works. It’s gonna be fine with mom and Australia
Amira: I don’t think so
Essam: You know how she is. First she forbids it and then she allows it again
Amira: But for you other rules apply
Essam: Why? Because I’m a boy?
Amira: Yes, and you know it
Essam: No. Amira, not everything that happens to you is because you’re a girl
Amira: Of course Essam
Essam: No
Amira: To you and Omar baba would’ve said that he’s super proud of you because you defended your honor or something
Amira’s mom: Amira, I just talked to Nadia’s mother. We decided that it’s better if you don’t come to the wedding. Yallah Essam
Essam: Okay mum. At least now you don’t have to go to that stupid wedding
Amira’s mum: Yallah Essam
Amira: Family is not always family
Essam: Family is and remains family
Amira: Yallah go
Text from Kiki: You don’t have to help me move, I’ll do it on my own
Kiki: What are you doing here?
Amira: We agreed that I’d help with your furniture
Kiki: No, I said I don’t need your help
Amira: Can you please let me in for a second?
Kiki: No, I’ll do it on my own
Amira: Kiki, if it’s because of Friday..
Person: Kiki, can you come please?
Kiki: Yes, just a minute. No, I can really do it on my own
Amira: Who’s that? Do you have a visitor?
Kiki: Can you please just go now? I don’t have time, okay
Amira: What I said on Friday wasn’t that bad
Kiki: Amira, you totally snapped, I thought you were gonna punch me as well
Person: Kiki?
Kiki: Yes, I’m coming. Jesus, just go now and leave me alone
Person: Why aren’t you coming when I call you?
Kiki: Somebody was at the door
Person: Was that one of your friends?
Kiki: No, it wasn’t one of my friends

Omar: *Rapping about blood brothers*
Amira: Blood brothers… isn’t that a bit cheesy?
Omar: Why, it’s true
Amira: Dude, either blood o friendship
Omar: Blood brothers is the best of both
Amira: And who’s your blood brother?
Omar: Mohammed
Amira: Aha
Omar: Mohammed told me about the two of you
Amira: And what did he tell you?
Omar: That you got along really well. And about your date at the park.
Amira: Don’t worry Omar, it’s over
Omar: He told me that already as well
Amira: Well then
Omar: He’s feeling really bad about it
Amira: And?
Omar: You probably too
Amira: So what
Omar: I just don’t understand how you can define someone through their religion
Amira: Yes of course. Do you think I ever would’ve stopped dating him otherwise? He’s the best person I know
Omar: And why don’t you just ask him why he doesn’t believe / have faith anymore?
Amira: Because it’s not important
Omar: It is to me
Amira: You know what, why don’t you go ahead and marry him then. Idiot. Put your legs away
Omar: Amira why are you always so harsh?
Text to Sam: Just met Zeina Nasser at the boxing studio. She’s giving the class today. Such a role model. Are you coming?
Text from Sam: Wow, cool. But sorry, I can’t. I’m with Abdi
Zeina: Yes, very nice! Stop it, stop! Hey, stop it! Amira! Amira, corner, now! Okay, you keep going. Partner A to the head with the jab and partner B to the body, okay? Deep breaths in and out. What was that, you were so aggressive? Look at me, hey, look at me. You’re super angry, aren’t you?
Amira: Yes I am
Zeina: I know that
Amira: Oh really?
Zeina: Yes, of course
Amira: And what do you do against it?
Zeina: I accept the situation. Look. What you just did, that were really great actions. But we had a task and you have to abide to it in that moment
Amira: Honestly, sometimes I don’t know what to abide to
Zeina: It’s okay, sometimes you don’t have to. It’s okay to go beyond boundaries and to be at loss, but believe me, that’s what makes you stronger. Just hang on. Okay, now get out of the ring, that’s it for today. You can burn off energy at the punchbag
Kiki: Hello?
Amira: Hey, it’s me
Kiki: Who’s there?
Amira: Amira. Kiki?
Amira: Hey
Kiki: Hey. Thanks. Come in
Amira: It’s super nice here
Kiki: Thanks
Amira: Kiki I’m sorry
Kiki: It’s fine
Amira: No, what I said to you on Friday... can I explain it to you?
Kiki: You really don’t have to
Amira: Kiki you were scared of me
Kiki: Amira...
Amira: No, I was just so mad at Elva that night I just vent my spleen on her
Kiki: No, I just didn’t want that ...
Amira: What?
Kiki: I didn’t want you to see my mum
Amira: Your mum?
Kiki: Yes. She was in the flat on Monday
Amira: So?
Kiki: You with your perfect family don’t understand that
Amira: Kiki my family is everything but perfect
Kiki: Your mum sets a whole table of food just so you make up with one of your old friends. My mum puts a bottle of vodka on the table for breakfast
Amira: I didn’t know that
Kiki: It’s no big deal. It’s okay
Amira: Kiki. I’m so sorry!
Kiki: Me too. And that with the painting was a mistake, but you know that, right?
Amira: Really?
Kiki: Yes of course really. Your my friend after all
Amira: And how is your mum doing now?
Kiki: It always works out somehow. But when I see you with your mum I just wish for the same thing
Amira: You know Kiki, yes, my mum puts a lot of food on the table when Nadia comes over. But at the same time she has a thousand rules for me that I have to obey
Kiki: Because you’re a woman?
Amira: Because I’m a woman. Because I have German friends. Because I have Arabic friends. Because I’m a muslim. Because I’m a muslim in Germany. Because I want to go to Australia on my own. Choose one. Every morning when I get up I fix my hijab (at least I think that’s what she says), put on makeup and know that today I’ll hear a stupid comment again. No matter if it’s my parents, my brothers, the society we live in, my muslim community that always knows everything better. Everybody has so many expectations in me, even my friends. Just because I’m a muslim wearing an hijab. That puts so much pressure in me, you know? And I just know that I can’t live up to everybody’s expectations, I can’t please everyone. Why am I trying again and again? Now I disappointed everybody. My parents, my brothers, Nadia, Mohammed. And you
Kiki: You didn’t disappoint me
Amira: Yes Kiki, and I understand it
Kiki: Amira, we just had a fight. It happens. Do you have any ides how often I fight with Carlos?
Amira: No idea
Kiki: Yes, all the time, we fight all the time. But we make up again. Do you have any idea how much I love you? You don’t have to be perfect for me. You just have to be there. You are the way that you are and that’s just right
Amira: I’m gonna cry. I love you so much
Kiki: I love you too. My phone is ringing
Amira: Wrong timing
Kiki: Mia. Hi Mia!
Amira: Hey habibi
Kiki: Yes, Amira’s at my place. Yes, everything’s okay again. No! Shit! Okay
Amira: What’s the matter?
Kiki: Yes, yes, I’ll tell them. Well then get home safe! See you tomorrow, bye!
Amira: What’s up?
Kiki: She missed her connecting train
Amira: No! That means she’ll come...
Kiki: ... only tomorrow. You wanna know what we’re gonna do now? We’ll throw our own party

Sam: Amira if you’d been there I wouldn’t be so hungover now

Amira: It’s fine, we just didn’t get along like you don’t get along sometimes
Kiki: Really?
Amira: Yes. It’s sad, but that’s the way it is. You wouldn’t start a new relationship right before you go abroad for a year either
Kiki: So you do like him
Amira: Just leave me alone, Jesus Christ
Sam: What about Stefan, by the way?

Kiki: What do you mean?
Hanna: He wants to move in with me
Kiki: Really?
Sam: Have you already looked for drapes and strollers?
Kiki: Hey, maybe he’s just scared because you and Jonas get along so well and needs a bit of safety
Sam: But Abdi’s the same way. Whenever I talk to other guys (didn’t get that part but something about him not liking it). He needs to decide whether he wants anything serious or this
Kiki: The question is why you don’t want to be with him and just want whatever you have
Abdi: Guys, I’m right next to you, you know that, right?
Sam: See?
Amira: Hey guys, do we want to play anything?
Kiki(?): What?
Amira: Volleyball, some people over there are playing. I also brought cards
Text from Mohammed: I don’t believe that you don’t want to see me. I want to talk to you
Amira: Or city-country-river (very popular game in Germany)
Hanna: Let’s just keep laying here
Amira: You? What are you doing here?
Mohammed: I wanted to see your brother
Amira: Why aren’t you going inside then?
Mohammed: Amira…
Amira: I don’t think this is the right place
Mohammed: I wanted to talk to you. Because I’ve never experienced anything like this with another person. Really! I just can’t believe that you want to throw all of that away
Amira: But it doesn’t work that way
Mohammed: We can work it out somehow
Amira: How do you imagine that? Ramadan, for example. Will you just eat? Or what will you do when I pray?
Mohammed: We’ll find out then
Amira: But I have to know now
Mohammed: Oh come on. This between us is strong enough
Amira: That’s not enough for me
Mohammed: Not enough?
Amira: Maybe it just doesn’t fit between us
Mohammed: Okay, I’ll pray with you if you wantAmira: But then you’re only doing it for me
Mohammed: Yes
Amira: But it isn’t real then. You have to do it for yourself or for Allah
Mohammed: But how can we be together?
Amira: Okay, but apart from me, what if we have kids? How are they supposed to live? Should they come to the mosque with me to pray or should they stay home with you? What should they believe in?
Mohammed: That’s so far in the future, why do you think so much?
Amira: Why do you think so little?
Mohammed: Why can’t we just be now?
Amira: Because that will never work for me
Amira: Mohammed you know, religion is home for me. Maybe you can do without, but I can’t. It just isn’t meant to be. Forget it. I don’t want you! I don’t want you!
Mohammed: You don’t want me?
Amira: No!
Mohammed: Well, okay. It’s your decision
Amira: Can I play with you?
Girl: Who’s that?
Kiki: She belongs to us
Hanna (?): You can serve, Amira
Amira: Okay
Girl: Well then, let’s see what you can do. Dude! Why are you laughing so stupidly?
Amira: Sorry
Girl: That really hurt
Amira: Give me the ball, I’ll do it again
Girl: Apologize properly
Amira: Give me the ball
Girl: How are you even talking to me? I want you to apologize
Amira: I already apologized. It’s not my fault you’re being so dramatic, okay? Now give me the ball
Kiki: Just giver her the ball
Girl: Nobody asked you
Amira: Talk properly to her
Girl: I don’t want to play with someone who obviously didn’t learn how to treat other people
Sam: What?
Girl: Get lost!
Kiki: You get lost!
Girl: Isn’t it getting a little hot under that thing?
Amira: Hands off!
Kiki: Are you dumb or what? Keep some distance!
Girl: No wonder you’re going crazy
Sam: Excuse me?
Kiki: Watch out how you’re talking
Girl: Honestly, if that stupid wog doesn’t know how to throw a ball…
Kiki: How are you talking?
Amira: Get lost!
Girl: She should go back to her shit hole country
Amira: What shit hole country?
Kiki: Just get lost!
Amira: Don’t touch her!
Sam: Don’t touch her!
Amira: You get lost!
Girl: Stupid wog
Kiki: What’s wrong with her?
Girl: Shut up!
Kiki: I’ve never experienced anything like that
Amira: Just leave it, okay?
Hanna: Amira what she said about you is not okay
Amira: Oh you have no idea! Stupid racist I’ve never experienced anything like that fucking hijab blah, in the end I’m always the one to blame because I wear a headscarf
Kiki: We just wanted to help you
Amira: I don’t want any help from you. What am I even doing here?
Kiki: Amira!
Kiki: What’s wrong with them?
Hanna: No idea
Kiki: What even was that?
Trainer: Mohammed, can you take over for me, please?
Trainer: Everything okay?
Amira: Yes, everything’s great!
Trainer: Is really everything okay? Don’t be so hard on yourself. You just had a bad day. You’ll get there
Amira: Come on, we’ve seen everything, can we please go now?
Kiki: No, I still want to get a henna tattoo done
Amira: But Kiki, I really have a bad headache
Kiki: You need to drink some water, you haven’t drunk anything today
Amira: I’m also not in the mood anymore
Safaa: Amira, Hi
Amira: Safaa!
Safaa: Long time no see. How are you?
Amira: Good, how are you?
Safaa: I’m fine
Amira: This is Kiki
Kiki: Hi
Amira: Safaa and I were the coolest in Quran class
Safaa: Definitely
Amira: Talk Arabic to her, I taught her some
Safaa (in Arabic): How are you?
Kiki (in Arabic): Good. I thank Allah
Safaa: Wow
Amira: See?
Kiki: But that’s all I know
Safaa: Hold on. Elva (? I could be wrong about that) hey, over here. Look, Amira is here
Elva: Hey, everything okay sister?
Amira: Yes, you?
Elva: Sure
Kiki: Hi, I’m Kiki
Safaa: I just wanted to tell them about Haneen (?). She was on the train and was spit at in the middle of the day and nobody did anything. You really don’t feel safe sometimes
Elva: My sister still can’t play basketball
Safaa: For real?
Kiki: Why, what happened?
Elva: At might on Herrmann street. Three against one
Kiki: Oh god. But yesterday there was someone like that at the lake. She told Amira to go back home. I was so shocked
Elva: Yes, welcome to our world. But you don’t understand that anyway. Don’t know that either, do you?
Safaa: Don’t think about it sister. We’re strong, we’re sticking together
Amira: It’s not even that bad
Elva: Not that bad? Did they brainwash you? Every day at the tram people look at me or talk to me stupidly. You can’t tell me that it’s not the same for you
Amira: Elva, just chill, okay. Most people are cool
Elva: Didn’t you listen to me? Or her? Don’t you care about what happens to my sister?
Nadia: Na ladies?
Everybody: Wow
Amira: The bride is here
Nadia: Everything okay with you?
Safaa: Let me tell you, Achmed will be impressed tomorrow. He’s gonna be a happy man/husband
Nadia: How was it at your wedding?
Safaa: Look, he wanted to, but I was way too tired. I fell asleep right away
Kiki: No way
Nadia: By the way, what’s going on with you and Mohammed?
Safaa: Wait, isn’t Mohammed the one that’s always chilling with Omar?
Amira: It’s nothing
Elva: That’s not true. Fatima said something like that
Amira: Yes, but there’s nothing between us. I had a look at him, but that was it
Safaa: You know he’s no Muslim, right?
Elva: You look at someone who’s no Muslim?
Amira: Jesus, I said there’s nothing between us. Are you even listening?
Elva: What are you talking about? Fatima saw you two making out at the park last week
Amira: What are YOU talking about? What is your problem?
Elva: I just want you to stop being such a hypocrite
Amira: What?
Elva: Just admit it! You want to be an Alman. Just like that Kiki. You’re only hanging out with them now, aren’t you? You changed so much Amira
Amira: Excuse me?
Elva: And now you’re sleeping with that heathen. Cunt!
Kiki: Amira! Amira wait! Amira what’s going on with you?
Amira: Don’t touch me!
Kiki: What’s the matter?
Amira: Stop interfering with my life! What do you even want here? You have no idea what’s going on here. Elva was so right. You would never understand something like that. Just fuck off!
Girl: Well then, let’s see what you can do. Dude! Why are you laughing so stupidly?
Amira: Sorry
Girl: That really hurt
Amira: Give me the ball, I’ll do it again

Amira: Or city-country-river (very popular game in Germany)
Amira’s mum: But the older sister Amira. I really don’t know what to think anymore. You’re usually always on top of things. Essam, was it really Mohammed who gave you the alcohol?
Essam: Yes. Leave me alone
Amira: Are you serious?
Essam: Don’t scream like that. What can I do when Mohammed does something like that?
Amira: You could tell the truth
Essam: Yeah sure and mum will pull off a secret service thing. She’s gonna lock me up and spy on me
Amira: And for Mohammed that’s okay or what?
Essam: Why are you so interested in Mohammed?
Amira: I’m not interested in him. It’s about the principle
Essam: So everbody’s beating each other up, everybody’s getting drunk and when I do it it’s a huge problem
Amira: But we’re not everybody. When some Alman gets in a (violent) fight he has his reasons. But when we get in (violent) fights then it’s because we’re Arab trash
Essam: What are you talking about? I just wanted Kiki to like me
Amira: Essam, Kiki has Carlos. Okay. Essam, habibi, you have to tell mum the truth
Essam: Ey Amira, sorry, I need to go to the bathroom again
Amira: Is something the matter?
Jonas: Hey Hanna! Where are you? It would be cool if you could come. We definitely need more help. I’d be happy. Oh with Stefan, okay. Don’t worry, we’ll handle it. Well then have a nice day and I’ll see you soon. Okay, bye
Amira: Everything okay?
Jonas: Yes, Hanna isn’t coming, they’re having a nice day, with Stefan. So cute
Amira: I’m sorry
Jonas: It’s fine
Carlos: I need the 15 open-end wrench
Sam: Shut up yourself (this gets lost in translation, Carlos says “Maul” which both means open-end wrench and shut up)
Carlos: I was talking about the open-end wrench. Deeper
Amira: Ugh what’s that?
Carlos: You really need to go in very deep
Sam: I am, it doesn’t go any further
Carlos: I can’t go any further either. Just grab it
Sam: I already have it
Carlos: No you didn’t grab anything
Amira: What’s going on here?
Carlos: The pipe is totally fucked up. And she can’t get anything done / she’s incapable / incompetent
Sam: That thing was only partly there
Amira: Okay, and why are you fixing it?
Sam: That’s what I said
Amira: Isn’t that the facility management’s job?
Carlos: Hey Amira. Sorry about your brother, I was so drunk
Amira: It’s fine, it wasn’t your fault Carlos, Essam was really provoking it
Carlos: It kinda was my fault as well
Kiki: Please don’t make him feel like it’s okay when he’s fucking around like that, okay
Carlos: Dude what is your fucking problem? I apologized, Kiki, what else do you want?
Kiki: Could you help me very quickly?
Sam: Sure
Amira: Of course
Carlos: Can’t throw either, Jesus
Jonas: How’s it going bro?
Carlos: Look
Jonas: Oh, fuck
Sam: Is everything okay?
Kiki: No. Carlos is dropping out of school
Sam: What?
Kiki: Yes, he told me on Friday
Sam: Is that bad? I mean you can do without Abitur as well
Kiki: Sam, he can’t even manage to take out the trash, how is he supposed to do anything without Abitur?
Amira: Kiki, I don’t want to say anything, but he’s currently fixing a pipe
Sam: What about you and Mohammed? Are you together now?
Kiki: That’s why you came to the party together?
Amira: It’s nothing?
Kiki: What there’s nothing?
Amira: I don’t know, everything’s just really shitty right now. He got banned from our house
Sam: What?
Kiki: How?
Amira: My mum found Essam drunk with a bottle of Vodka and Mohammed took the blame
Sam: Wow, he stood up for him. That’s so cute
Kiki: Yes, but how blatant is Essam?
Amira: Yes, and now we can’t see each other anymore. And my parents think that’s the guy that’s getting my brother drunk
Kiki: Shit
Amira: But I kinda miss him and would really like to see him again
Sam: Aaawww
Kiki: Amira
Amira: And the worst is it’s literal ice age at home, everybody’s in a bad mood
Sam: Don’t you have holidays right now?
Amira: Yes, sacrificial feast
Sam: Your parents are gonna calm down once they’ve seen how cute you are together
Kiki: I think it’s super nice that you’re talking to us
Amira: Well I don’t have any other choice
Sam: Yeah, so obvious
Kiki: Group hug girls
Sam: But wait, does that mean you’re getting married soon?
Kiki and Amira: Oh Sam
Sam: No?
Kiki and Amira: No
Amira’s mum: There’s gonna be 20 people over for lunch soon
Amira: I know that the guests will soon be there, but what am I supposed to do? Honestly, I don’t get it, when you’re all in such a bad mood, why don’t we just let the Holidays be?
Amira’s mum: I think I didn’t hear you correctly
Amira: Hello? Hello?
Text from Nadia: Eid ul-Adha for you and your family. Do you want to come to my Henna-evening?
Text to Mohammed: I want to see you
Text from Mohammed: Me too. After the sacrificial feast?
Text to Mohammed: No. I can’t wait that long. Tomorrow?
Text from Mohammed: Or today!? Now! Where are you?
Text to Mohammed: Me the time, you the place. So tomorrow. Where?
Amira: I don’t know if I could work with kids
Mohammed: For real?
Amira: It’s so exhausting, isn’t it?
Mohammed: Don’t you like kids?
Amira: Yes, of course
Mohammed: And how many kids do you want?
Amira: Three
Mohammed: Three kids?
Amira: Yes
Mohammed: Are you serious?
Amira: Yes. How many do you want?
Mohammed: I want ten kids
Amira: Ten? Bye!
Mohammed: But I want 15
Amira: That’s a whole football team
Mohammed: That’s good
Amira: But that’s way too many
Mohammed: We need a football team
Amira: No
Mohammed: We need…
Amira: Why are you saying we? Who’s talking about you?
Mohammed: I mean we’re gonna marry in the future aren’t we?
Amira: Is that a marriage proposal?
Mohammed: No, but, I don’t know
Amira: I’ll kill you
Mohammed: Don’t look behind you
Amira: But what if I fall?
Mohammed: You won’t fall
Mohammed: Do your parents know that you’re with me today?
Amira: No. Does your mum know that you’re with me today?
Mohammed: Yes
Amira: Really?
Mohammed: Yes, of course. That Egyptian one by Abdul (couldn’t make out the rest) that I sent you
Amira: You don’t know the name?
Mohammed: No idea
Both: I love you
Mohammed: Yes right
Both: *Singing*
Mohammed: I’ll take you home
Amira: No thanks, really, you don’t have to
Mohammed: Of course, come on
Amira: No, it’s fine, I live right around the corner
Mohammed: But I want to
Amira: Okay. Well then, Eid Mubarak
Mohammed: Eid Mubarak. Even if I don’t celebrate that
Amira: What, why?
Mohammed: I’m not religious
Amira: Okay, I uhm… I have to go
Mohammed: For real?
Amira: Yes
Mohammed: Well then, have a good night
Text from Mohammed: I thought it was really nice. Do you know James Hersey? You could like him
Essam: Hey. May Allah accept your prayer
Amira: May he accept it. What do you want Essam?
Essam: I told mum. The thing with Mohammed
Amira: Cool, thanks
Essam: Then everything’s okay between us, isn’t it?
Text from Mohammed: Are you okay? Did I do anything wrong?
Amira: Mia I’m so glad you’re calling, I desperately have to talk to you, really. Are you crying? Mia what’s the matter? Where’s Alex? Where’s Alex?
Mia: He’s gone
Amira: Gone? What happened?
Mia: I had to work all of Tuesday and Wednesday because the servers crashed at our company
Amira: Okay, and?
Mia: Alex walked through Madrid on his own for hours
Amira: But Mia come on, it’s gonna be okay. Don’t worry
Mia: I don’t know. He was really mad. Everything’s just so complicated and exhausting. Amira, I was so looking forward to Madrid. And now I think of him when I’m a work and when he’s here I think of my job and somehow everything’s shit. I don’t know what I want. I didn’t used to be like that. Sometimes I get the feeling that I act against myself when I’m with him, you know? Maybe it’s just not working between us
Amira: No Mia, don’t say that. You love each other
Mia: Is that enough?
Amira: If you love each other it should just work, shouldn’t it?
Mia: But I want to be happy, loving each other is not enough, I want to be happy with myself as well, do you understand?
Amira: Aren’t you happy when you’re with him?
Mia: I’m unhappy all the time, no matter where I am
Amira: Oh Mia, I would really like to hug you right now. Oh darling
Mia: Amira
Amira: Mia, please stop crying. Everything’s gonna be alright. Really
Mohammed: Why aren’t you answering?
Amira: I don’t know, I didn’t see my phone
Mohammed: I texted you a thousand times, didn’t you see that? Amira what’s the matter?
Amira: You know that yourself
Mohammed: Are you serious? Just because I don’t pray you don’t want to be with me?
Omar: Everything okay?
Mohammed: I just wanted to get some water
Omar: Mohammed, stop flirting with my sister
Mohammed: And now? What do we do? Pretend nothing happened between us? I didn’t know you were that conservative
Amira: I’m not conservative
Mohammed: Yes, you are conservative. You don’t want to be with me just because I don’t pray, that is conservative. What if I had told you beforehand?
Amira: I wouldn’t have gone on a date with you then
Mohammed: Look at me. Do you regret the time we had together?
Text from Mohammed: Are you okay? Did I do anything wrong?
Amira: Mia I’m so glad you’re calling, I desperately have to talk to you, really. Are you crying? Mia what’s the matter? Where’s Alex? Where’s Alex?

*in Germany there are three different school-leaving qualifications, the Abitur is the highest which enables you to go to university. If you go to a Gymnasium (which they did) and you successfully complete 10th grade you automatically get your “Mittlere Reife” which is a diploma below the Abitur, you can’t attend university but you can do vocational training. So Carlos dropping out of school doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a diploma, he just can’t go to university
