“The Aftermath” Oils on Wood
11″x14″ —– Around this time 3 years ago I was a senior at Columbus College of Art and Design. I created a piece of work titled “Ghost of Nature” for my senior thesis exhibition. It depicted an albino stag, lifeless, with a projected animation of a small bird eating at it’s corpse. The projection made the bird appear ghostly and transparent, as if it wasn’t actually there. I explained in my presentation to my professors that the work was elluding to childhood trauma and sexual abuse. Metaphorically speaking, I was the both the ghostly bird and the deer corpse. Unfortunately for me, my professors were crash, inattentive and very insensitive. One professor said to me, “well you can make anything about rape. You can sculpt a pot and call it rape!” So, this is dedicated to that asshole. This is a painting about childhood trauma, abuse, and rape- and how much it fucking hurts everywhere, everyday. A constant picking and picking until nothing is left. Hollow, yet still enduring a torturous pain.
