me turning the page and seeing johnny truant's fuckass footnote continue for several more pages
I'm generally an overly honest person (to a fault sometimes), but I would hands down tell anyone who asked me what this book holds whatever they need to hear to make them start reading it.
One of my favorite screenshots
I bring a sort of "body neutrality applies to everyone even if they're bad people" to the body shaming conversation that "people who want to body shame but only when they think they have a moral high ground so as to not be seen as a bad person" don't like
my favorite ao3 writers be like this
To myself, raised in an environment that glorified and romanticized restriction and suffering:
There is no victory in skipping dinner, or lunch, or breakfast, or morning coffee, or dessert.
There is no victory in refusing heaters and air conditioners and fans and heated blankets.
There is no victory in denying yourself sleep, or showers, or movement, or water, or a comfortable bed, or taking the elevator vs. the stairs.
There is no victory in refusing pain meds and heating pads and ice packs and medical help.
There is no victory in punishing yourself needlessly, in telling yourself that this pain you feel is because you are bad to the core and deserve it.
There is no victory in choking back your laughter and your tears, to keep an imagined equilibrium of safety that is really just a dry, cracked, empty, endless emotional desert.
You are here. You are in this body, and this body is yours. You deserve good things. You are alive, and that is messy and loud, and messy and loud are okay.
It’s okay to live abundantly. It’s okay to make mistakes, it’s okay to indulge. This paralysis of self-punishment, self-restriction, self-loathing is not healthy or good for you.
I bring a certain "first aid and wilderness survival trained, but has still somehow almost died 15+ times due to possessing the Constitution and AC stats of a wizard with no common sense" energy to the party
The thing about Hadestown is the line “To know how it ends. And still begin to sing it again. As if it might turn out this time” is an incredible way to describe most of life. We try because we have to believe that even when the ending is set in stone, it’s still worth trying. It’s still better to be a person who tried.
Also what if we turned Waiting for Godot into a fandom crack video, where we got everyone's hopes up by opening with a POV of Godot, singing Wait For Me from Hadestown, except, well, y'know...
Tumblr is a bit like Waiting For Godot in that two people sit around talking about nonsense all the time, nothing ever happens, there's masturbation and suicide, and sometimes estrogen shows up and everyone claps.
Kitten, mommy's gonna be honest I don't think godot is coming
Guys what if a bunch of drag kings played Waiting for Godot? Would the Godot estate still be misogynistic pricks?? Please I need this
Getting around the beckett estate’s stupid laws about not letting women get cast in waiting for godot by casting only drag queens what do we think
estrogen?? like from waiting for godot???
A: babe that's not estrogen you're taking that's Estragon
B: where the FUCK is godot
Genuinely so hard to recommend things like My Dinner With André or Waiting for Godot without sounding like a Seinfeld bit, like yeah it's about nothing, but, you see, hear me out, no it's not
Every time I'm like "you must read it or see it! It's about death and how pointless life is, the abuses we suffer under capitalism, how we turn on others when we're desperate, suicide, unreality, mental illness, agnosticism and atheism and religiousness, slavery, how we're going to get screwed by any hope we hold.....No don't walk away, it's actually so good I mean it wait where are you going we're supposed to be waiting for Godot it will change your life it's so depressing and so funny! The playwright was misogynistic!!" (On second thought, maybe I suck at advertising my favorite play because I'm so autistic about it. It's physically painful that most of my friends have never read or seen it (I only saw it just recently for the first time and I've loved it for 10 years)
Ok have you ever had that experience where you come across the origin of a really popular phrase or quote from the book, movie, play etc where it first came from and have a moment where you’re like “huh I didn’t know that’s where it’s from!” I had that moment recently watching a staging of Waiting for Godot, and up until then I didn’t know that the play is where “That’s how it is on this bitch of an earth” came from.
I certainly heard the quote repeated and referenced before but I didn’t know it was from Godot and I feel very uncultured because if you had pressed me on where I thought the phrase came from before watching the play I would’ve probably guessed that it was from a Dril tweet
That's how it is on this bitch of an earth is one of my favorite lines
