“My ear drums are going to rupture–BEAT ARE YOU TRYING TO STOP THE TREE MONSTER OR KILL ME? PICK ONE!” he shouted at her. Gods, she was awful. Though, to his surprise, the tree was…calming down. It seemed to be soothed by the other’s obnoxious screeching. How, Lorin had no idea, but, it was working. The tree wasn’t whipping its branches about as fiercely, and it was slowly looking like it was being lulled by the song. Somehow. Lorin wasn’t going to question it.

“I hate to say this but keep singing!” he yelled, slowly sneaking up behind the beast. As he did so, the tree wrapped it’s branches around Beat and pulled her close to it’s trunk, rocking it and…and was it humming? For real?? Still it seemed to be calmed, and wasn’t trying to squeeze her to death like a boa constrictor, tho it could if it wanted to. Lorin was thinking fast, working up a spell in his mind to root this damn monster back into the ground and get the mortal out of it’s barky clutches.

Well, it wasn’t every day you got to say you were manhandled (planthandled?) by a tree. Beat stiffened in fear and she instinctively reached for her daggers before pausing. Threatening the tree was a bad and stupid idea, especially if it was starting to calm down and.. acting like a mother?? Beat wasn’t used to the concept, nor did she have good memories of her own mother, so she wasn’t really sure how to react.

“Uh.... good...... Barky.......” she said uncertainly, reaching out to stroke the tree’s bark..... face......thing. “I know, existence is painful, but you don’t have to go through it alone or some sentimental garbage?” Beat barely knew how to interact with other human beings, never mind sentient plant matter.

Oh, right, she was supposed to be singing to the damn thing. “Uh... Rockabye baby in the treetop...no, that’s a bad one...When I was a young girl, my father took me into the city to steal from a marching band....We don’t even have cities....Now the hungry lion roars, and the wolf behowls the moon, whilst the heavy ploughman snores, all with weary task fordone...”

Even if Beat couldn’t carry a tune, it might’ve helped if she could stay on beat. Unfortunately, she couldn’t do that either.
